Among the Stars

C S A U S
The city was bustling. So many Chiss filtering out and about doing their jobs. Each one preforming a task to their best ability. Some racing to get to where they needed to be. Others in a leisurely stroll. I was here on business as well. While it wasn't saving the day or anything like that, it was to drop off some precious cargo. Beside me, a little hover cart followed my ever step as I walked through the city. A blaster carbine in my hands, and two Chiss local enforcement flanking me. Taking it to the building it needed to be at. All I knew was that it was for someone important. Walking up the ramps through the main doors, I stood by as one of the Chiss spoke in their native language. I could pick up a couple words here and there, but I wasn't fluent enough to get the entire conversation. Even more so when they were speaking rather fast. It was a couple moments of them going back and forth before the other officer spoke up to me.
"You don't have to stay if you don't want."
"Need to get paid first."
"They didn't pay you?"
"Half ahead, half after."
"That makes sense."
"I was told the second half would be something I would find useful."
"Okay. Then let me speed this up."
"How come?"
"They are arguing if you should be allowed in."
I rolled my eyes at the statement. Of course because I didn't look exactly like them, I was to be excluded. When the second officer walked up. Speaking to the receptionist? Not sure who she was, but she was starting to get angry. I could feel her emotions radiating off of her. But as soon as the calm voice of the second officer spoke up, she silenced. pressed a couple buttons, then spoke into an intercom. A second of silence before a voice came over saying something else. I thing from what I could gather was to send me up.
The two officers then walked over to me. The first one nodding and releasing a sigh before starting to walk off. The hover cart followed him and I did as well. The second officer who had spoken to me did so again.
"Got you through. Just be mindful. You are carrying weapons."
"Yes."
"People will be warry of you."
"They should be."
"I am trying to say tread lightly."
"I always do."
He looked at me for a moment then shook his head. Following with me to an elevator. As we were brought to some VIP suite, a man walked forward and smiled brightly. Speaking again in that language before addressing me.
"Ahhh. Miss Kessan! Thank you for delivering what I requested. As stated, I have the other half of your payment."
"Please."
"Absolutely."
He turned around and went to a different room. Then came back with a small box. Producing it to me, I stared at him. My eyes looking directly into his as he expected me to take it. he cleared his throat before I answered.
"Open it please."
"I'm sorry?"
"My line of work is dangerous. I don't open anything someone else is handing me."
"My apologies. I did not think you were one to be a stickler for such things."
"Keeps me alive."
"Fair enough Miss Kessan. Here."
Opening it up, it was a small band with what looked to be something similar to a watch or a wrist communication device. However, as he removed it showing it was not attached to a bomb or anything, he spoke of what it was.
"It is a custom and uniquely made Optical dephaser. It can turn you invisible, hide you from scanners, and even change how you look. I figured with your kind of work, something like this could be... of great value."
I spoke nothing. My hand staying on the grip of the carbine, but my other hand reached out to grab it from him. Indicating I wished to see it. He relented and handed it to me. I looked at it closely. Feeling nothing awkward or any tingling that something could have been wrong. Nodding my head, I reached up to a breast pocket and placed it within. Closing it up then patting it.
"I appreciate it."
"Absolutely! if you do require more work, please do contact me. I always have more work."
"I have a couple already on my list. Should they thin, I will let you know."
His smile was bright and toothy. Turning around he faced the officers and smiled. Speaking to them in another language. I tried my best to pay attention, when one word spoke out to me.
Slave.
My eyebrows raised for a moment, but narrowed.
"You did not just have me transport a slave for you."
"And what of it is your concern?"
"Its illegal, and if I am caught, causes me many problems."
"You were compensated."
"Without knowing what I was transporting."
"And I find your tone changing Miss. I do not find it acceptable."
"Pay me more."
"How dare you inquire that of me! Officers!"
I knew without waiting what was going to happen. in a split second the carbine was raised. The barrel releasing two rounds into the first officers chest. Third to the head. Dropping my body weight, the second's weapon fired just above my head where I had been, A blaster round to his foot brought him crumpling down to the ground in pain. Second shot left a smoking hole in his head. Flashing the hot barrel at the Chiss who had just paid me, smoke waving in the air between us. His face filled with a sense of dread and fear.
"I was trying to be nice. Now you caused me problems."
"You have more on your way. Even if I do die."
In his hand was a transponder he had hit. Informing the entire building he was being attacked. My hand lanced out and yanked it with the force. Dropping it to the ground to crush it under my heel.
"You're a Jedi?"
"Not exactly."
The Carbine brought up and fired one last shot into his head. body dropping to the floor with a thud.
"Now to find a way out of here."
