Feather in His Cap
"I am a question to the world, Not an answer to be heard, Or a moment that's held in your arms..."
Shem stood in the gardens of the New Jedi Order's temple, plucking at the string of his energy bow as he sang a tune he had heard once in passing. As he did so, a realization came to him, an audience of younglings that were now gathered around him. A Togruta boy on the left, a Rodian boy in the middle, and a Nautolan girl on the right, all looking up at him with bright eyes.
"Oh, hey there," Shem greeted. "I didn't notice you all... I didn't think anyone else would be here."
"We wouldn't," the Rodian boy sighed.
"Detention?" the Rishii guessed, to which he was met with a series of nods. "Rough. Well, sorry to bother that I guess."
"That's okay," the girl shrugged. "You're good at singing, mister. Do you do it a lot?"
The fledgling smiled at the complement, his feathered cheeks lifting ever so slightly.
"Not usually," he explained. "I'm waiting for someone. I dreamed that I might meet someone if I wait here, so here I am."
The younglings reacted with bewilderment, but it wasn't long before a Jedi Master came in to retrieve them from their detention. They bid a quick farewell before leaving Shem alone once more to ponder the reason he had come to this place. Uncle Spinner had told him what he was only very recently. A seer, he called him, someone who was able to receive visions of the future through the force. The idea was thrilling, filling Shem with excitement down to his very core. To see events before they transpired, possibilities seemed endless. Unfortunately it seemed there was no real way to control what he saw, leaving the nature of his dreams shrouded in mystery. So when one dream came of him meeting a red Twi'lek woman in the gardens of the Temple, the Rishii decided to allow fate to take it's course. He only plucked the plasma drawstring of his bow a few more times before he heard approaching footsteps.
It was his vision.
"Hey!" Shem called out, a smile in his beak. "I've been waiting all day for ya!"
Now he could finally get to the bottom of all of this.
