Strengths:

 • Thought you could escape me: The spear contains a blaster built into the shaft of the spear allowing the weapon to be used at both long and close range.

 • Phrik: The spear is made out of the nearly indestructible metal Phrik, destroying one of the spears is incredibly difficult.

 • Molecular Edge: The Praetorian’s smiths use a series of lasers to hone the edge of their spears down to a fine edge.

 • Slicin and Dicin: The edges of the main spear blade and the small blade at the butt of the spear are lined with an Electroplasma filament which enhances their cutting power.

 • Light as a feather: The entire spear is seeded with micro-repulsors. These allow the wielders of the weapon to adjust the weight of the spear, allowing them to move the spears faster than expected, or hit harder than expected. The micro’repulsors also generate a generate a repulsor field around the spear blades increasing the damage caused by the spears cuts and thrusts.

 • Big Boom: The shaft of the spear contains an electromagnetic rail accelerator. When the spear is using its blaster-mode the accelerator can be activated giving each shot increased range and power. By spending more time charging the accelerator the strength and range of each shot can be increased, but the fire rate of the blaster will also decrease as the capactiros take longer ot charge to the required level.
Weaknesses:

 • How do I aim this thing: The spear is a long weapon, and the blaster is right at its tip making aiming the weapon difficult at the best of times. Someone who gets too close would be unable to be targeted by the weapon. Targetting a moving opponent can be difficult too.

 • Fizzle: The spear is heavily reliant on technology, and if attacked by an EMP or Ion-based attack those electronics can be disabled. It’s still capable of harming you but loses much of its deadly abilities.

 • Get in close: It’s a spear, with blades at the tips of the shaft, if you can get inside its range the spear is little more than a staff until it’s wielder can clear some space.

DESCRIPTION

As they opened up their borders to the rest of the galaxy the Azure Imperium knew they could access the greater technology of the galaxy to upgrade the weapons used by their elite guard unit. Reaching out to Locke and Key Mechanics they asked for a weapon to be made, a spear to recognise the past of the unit while bringing them into the future.

The designers started with a Phrik base for the spear, the indestructible metal providing the spear with both heft and protection against enemy attacks. It takes a lot to damage Phrick, and if an attack of that magnitude was unleashed, well the wielder has a whole different mess of problems. The metal spear wasn’t enough though, any spear was a dangerous weapon, but they wanted something that could face off against any weapon, and damage any armour. So the designers went to work on the actual damaging portion of the spear, the blade. First, using an increasingly precise series of lasers the designers honed the blade down to a molecular edge, capable of slicing easily through any soft tissue and bone, or light armour. That wasn’t enough though, they wanted a weapon that could hold up against better defences. To get there they took a page from the First Order, the weapons of the Elite Guard Unit and ran a thin electro-plasma filament along the edge enhancing the cutting power of the blade. The addition of micro repulsors embedded into the spear finished it off as a deadly close-range weapon in trained hands.

The blade of the spear wasn’t the only dangerous part of the Vertus Spear, after all a spear was only so useful if someone was far enough away from you to not be hit. To that end the designers at Locke and Key installed a high powered blaster and railgun in the shaft of the spear, allowing it’s wielder to attack their opponent at all ranges, making he Vertus spear a truly dangerous weapon, no matter where you are.
