STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES:
Montral Sense - Like all Togruta, Vera has a "sixth sense" that comes from her montrals, the hollow cones topping her head-tails. By receiving the vibration of sounds around her, the montrals offer a type of passive echolocation that allows Vera to intuitively sense everything around her within a few feet. Combined with the precognitive effects of the Force, it's a potent asset for any Togruta Jedi.
Natural Dancer - Vera has enjoyed dancing from a young age. It was a means of expressing herself, a channel for her restlessness, and a well-respected life path on the Kiros artist's colony. If she were interested, she could easily have become a professional in one of the many troupes performing across the galaxy. The level of body control and awareness required by her hobby has helped her understand herself more, and helps her learn new skills requiring finesse. Whether it's squeezing through vents, learning lightsaber forms, or infiltrating a cartel club, there are plenty of ways this could help her out.
Intuitive Force (Positive) - As a child, Vera was encouraged to follow the will of the Force. Her mother was a Padawan who failed to pass her trials, and she did what she could to teach her daughter how to use the Force positively, but she lacked the skill and knowledge to properly train her. Instead, Vera trained herself by pursuing her passions. Climbing, running, and dancing dominated the Togruta's lifestyle, and she unconsciously began to apply what she learned to her movements and actions. As a result, Vera is adept at physically manipulating the Force without thinking, giving her a noticeable edge over her peers in contests of strength and skill.
Intuitive Force (Negative) - Because of her temperament and the clear blessings the Force gave her, Vera's conscious use of the Force has stagnated. She becomes easily frustrated with meditation and mental focus, and her failures have erected a mental block that has caused her to struggle to learn any proper Force techniques. Only by overcoming her own defeatism will she become a good Jedi.
Embers of Hatred - Vera was kidnapped by slavers as a child, and was only rescued through the intervention of a team of Republic commandos led by a Jedi Knight. Her traumatic experience in the hold of a slave ship has left her with a dark coal of anger burning inside of her. While it motivated her to put her Force Sensitivity to use defending the weak, it could easily put her life and her spirit in peril. The lure of the Dark Side is so much stronger when fighting the ones you hate, and hate can blind even a Jedi to danger.
APPEARANCE: Physically Vera does little to stand out from your average Togruta. Her orange coloration and the dark blue patterning on her montrals are fairly ubiquitous amongst the other members of her species. Her body is very athletic, with toned, wiry muscles that suggest years of professional training- perhaps as a dancer. Despite her otherwise traditional appearance, her manner of dress is different from the average Togruta. She doesn't wear the patterned sash common to those who come from Shili, preferring simple tops and pants. Often she can also be seen wearing a fine, indigo-dyed traveling cloak, a gift from her mother on Kiros. The blue color has been intentionally faded to match the brilliant skies of the planet.
BIOGRAPHY: Vera was born on Kiros, the only Togruta colony-world and one of the many pleasant planets on the Hydian Way. Her mother was a failed Padawan, who turned her talents to weaving and dying fabric, leaving the life of a Jedi behind in exchange for the life of a craftsman. Her father was a local writer who compiled histories of the Togruta and preserved their traditions. Because Kiros' society is focused around culture, their social status was high as a result of his important position as a preserver of that culture. That left Vera with many opportunities to pursue her desires, and opportunities for their family to travel offworld.
When the was 8 years old, she and a group of children from her dancing school went off-planet by shuttle, bound for Coruscant to see a landmark performance and meet a famous Togruta dancer. On their way through the Inner Rim they were ambushed by a group of slavers who had been tipped off by a corrupt harbormaster. Their ship was struck and the dancers taken captive- brought into the belly of the slaver ship as precious cargo for the Hutt market. They were trapped there for weeks, facing deprivation, brutal treatment, and ultimately the loss of any hope of rescue. But as the slavers passed through Jedi space, they were noticed by a police vessel and intercepted. To Vera it was like salvation from the Force itself. Without warning the door of the brig was blown open and commandos stormed through, followed by a Jedi with a brilliant blue saber. In that moment, bathed in the calm blue light, Vera made her choice.
She had 6 more years of compulsory education, but as she learned and danced and pretended she was the same girl who had left on that shuttle, her eyes were on the distant stars. She buried her hate, her fear, and her pain in a shallow grave. Resolve was the mantra that carried her: "I will become a Jedi. I will save others like me." Now that day has come. She doesn't know what awaits her on far Kashyyk, but with her mother's cloak, her father's wisdom, and her own determination she won't rest until she can become like the savior that showed her the light.
