Selfishness breeds terror, they say.
Terror must be faced with terror, I say.
Every move they make should be judged, their every breath should be held responsible, their every little thread of thought should be used against them. For their hate, for their anger, for their misunderstanding. Everybody makes mistakes, but to rid those mistakes, some need discipline.
Death is discipline, right?
I fear for their lives, even though I shouldn't. I fear for the lives of those whom have loved them, even though I shouldn't. I fear for the many lives that will be destroyed and ended in the process, even though I shouldn't.
Being a murderer is not easy. Being a murderer if you don't want to kill is even worse.
Yet I have once again found myself in a place where this is the only way to go.
Fear is a failure. Nobody shall ever breed fear. Death is a success. You must destroy all in your way for the good cause. The good cause that is making the galaxy more understanding.
It ain't that difficult.

"Master Lancaster, you shall definitely see this," a Jedi Knight, part of the expedition team, said. The team had come to Melida/Daan, a planet near Galactic Alliance space. That, of course, meant that one day the planet could have decided to join the federation that the Alliance was. And that is why the New Jedi Order was there first.

"What is it?" the woman was curious, marching towards the man that came running towards her. She could see a piece of paper in his hand, rippling in the wind and making it difficult to understand what it was. "This piece of paper? Does it contain anything useful?"

"I'm rather sure it does. Just read it," the Knight handed the paper to the woman. It had suffered greatly in the winds and rains of the planet. It looked much like a recruitment poster, at least judging by the general style of it. The fact that it hadn't been attached to any walls or anything told her it was a flyer.

"What the kark is the Layar Tide?" she commented after having read the very largest group of words from the paper. The piece of paper suddenly made the Master intrigued, as she was pretty sure the Layar Tide was not some kind of a youth movement for the betterment of the planet. No-no, it looked a lot more like a criminal organisation.

"Some criminals, terrorists maybe? Seems kind of suspicious. Better read what it says."

Liliane did let her eyes go through the whole poster and the letter attached to it.

SELFISHNESS BREEDS TERROR
TERROR MUST BE FACED WITH TERROR
DEATH IS DISCIPLINE
THE LAYAR TIDE
FEAR IS A FAILURE

DEATH IS A SUCCESS
Liliane then let her eyes read over the letter that was attached to the poster.
Death will come to those responsible.
Death will come to those.
Death will come to.
Death will come.
Death will.
Death.
Death is.
Death is inevitable.
Join me.
Destroy the world.
Destroy the hate.
Destroy the galaxy.
Join me.
I am Varimea.
This is Layar Tide.

"Is this for some kind of a fantasy novel?" Liliane asked after her eyes rose from the letter. She just couldn't understand, nor believe, what she had just read. "What is the Layar Tide, what is this Varimea, and what the kark is Venis Marashaeretis?"

The Master didn't usually swear that much, but now was a completely different occasion. She was the leader of this expeditionary team and was held responsible for what they found and what they did. And right now, she was confused as hell. She would not return home before finding out what this Layar Tide or Varimea or Venis Marashaeretis was.

"I don't know. I assume the Layar Tide is a rising dawn of a terrorist organisation, Varimea is their leader, and that last phrase... No idea," the Knight voice his opinion. "I am fairly sure we would have to deploy an investigator team to look into this matter, but right now we don't have much more information to go by. We've no idea where they're even located."

Liliane didn't know what to do. She needed to calm down. She had to clear her mind. And that required time. Time was something she didn't have.

"Talk to the locals. Maybe they know something. But be subtle. We don't want to cause any panic or mayhem."

Day Three Hundred And Sixty Four,

I am tired.

Varimea promised death and destruction, but all we are doing right now is sitting around on our arses, not doing anything useful. We don't have cash, we don't have food, we don't have place to sleep.

She's a liar, she's a beast.

But we can't leave. We can't abandon the cause. Terror must be faced with terror, that is for sure. And how else would we face terror with terror if we were to leave the army?

She told us we would do some stuff yesterday. And tomorrow we are going to do stuff. I don't know what the stuff is, but I think it's good. Maybe kill somebody for once.

Y'know, we want the death we were promised.

Venis Marashaeretis and stuff, y'know.

I hope tomorrow will be a good day.

"So, we have done some work. Varimea is a noun in a weird ancient language, standing for 'the rising dawn'. I'm rather sure it's not the person's real name, but we can't quite confirm that yet," the Knight spoke. But that didn't seem to be all they had found out, because the man didn't stop talking after that. "The Layar Tide is quite famous n the underworld, supposedly trying to destroy the whole planet one day. Mainly consists of untrained peasants. Nothing too scary yet."

"Is that all you found out?" Liliane wanted to know. They had been on the planet for several days now and even though she had had a lot of work to do, she kind of wanted to get over with this whole expedition. The humanitarian aid mission was turning out greatly, the Order had also found a lot of untrained initiates, and now all they had left to do was investigate the Layar Tide.

"Not quite. We know that the phrase Venis Marashaeretis is also from the ancient dead language, and that it has been used as a call for action, as a description of a sunrise, and as a name for a massacre in the past. But we don't know what it means."

And even though the Master was tired of this mission, she was intrigued. Especially because of the phrase. Why would such a set of words mean three so different things? Why would a description of a sunrise be a call for action or a name for an unfortunate event? It worked well with the word varimea, but didn't quite seem to match anything else.

But there was one thing she was sure of.

She had no idea what the karking Varimea was.

Day Three Hundred And Eighty Nine,

We are starving. So many of us are dying, we don't have anything to eat or drink. All we do is stealing stuff from the shops, but we can't keep up anymore. We need real food.

Varimea is gone, we don't know where she is. Probably doing some crazy dumb stuff she shouldn't do.

We need her. But she has left us.

We don't know where she is or what she does. But we are all turning mad right here.

Soldier Vx46 is completely crazy now, tearing books apart and sprinkling random words across the whole floor. It is maddening. I can't keep up with this anymore.

The whole karking floor is full of these words.

He cuts the throats of people who step on the pieces of paper. But there is nowhere else to step.

This is so mad.

Save me, please.

Days later

Liliane and several Jedi were sitting in one of the temporary meeting rooms, having spent the whole morning there, trying to come up with strategies on how to deal with this Varimea and Layar Tide madness.

"It's for sure you can't remain here, Master Lancaster. There are far more important things going on in the galaxy than these insurgents," the Jedi Knight spoke. These words were all right. Liliane knew she couldn't spend any more days on the planet. She had to move on and let the planet handle this madness on their own, or until they would call the Alliance for help.

"Indeed, I should leave later today. But we need to come up with something. The planet can't deal with this alone. We need a Jedi outpost here for a while. Some investigators, some consulars and researchers," the woman spoke. She was not a careless woman, so she knew exactly that the whole madness needed Jedi who would bring clarity to the situation. Researchers should have been able to come up with what all of this meant and how all these things were related, but until then, they knew only a few things for sure.

1. Varimea was a terrorist. She wanted to destroy and she wanted to kill. The Rising Dawn, that's what her name meant.

2. The Layar Tide was Varimea's army of terrorists. Nobody knew how many of them were around, but they were pretty harmless without any training. The meaning of the name remained unknown.

3. Venis Marashaeretis seems to mean something incredibly important to the whole cause. It has three possible meanings, but no translation to Galactic Basic Standard has been found yet.

4. Varimea will kill.

Varimea will kill.
That's what everybody says. My soldiers. My allies. My enemies, and even those I don't know. They all know I will kill.
And everybody will be brought down. Because selfishness breeds terror, and terror must be faced with terror. Because death is discipline, and while fear is failure, death is success.
Venis Marashaeretis.
Death Arrives on the Rise of Dawn.
