Description: Velokite is a research material designed to obstruct Force senses. It is prohibitively expensive and made only in small quantities. Its primary research function is to insulate experiments from the Force equivalent of background noise (such as the presence of powerful Force-users or artifacts, the disturbances involved in strong nearby Force powers, and other disturbances in the Force). This allows a given experiment, artifact, etc. to be examined in complete isolation. Velokite cannot withstand concentrated, direct Force powers such as telekinetic attacks, pyrokinesis, lightning, etc. - it is not a material designed for armor or anything of the sort. It does, however, obstruct sense and interference. For example, it would be very difficult if not impossible to sense a Force artifact contained within a Velokite box. Likewise, a person inside a Velokite box would have control over the Force within the box, but would need to breach the box substantially in order to have control over the Force outside the box, or sense what lies outside. A small hole in the box would allow the person to sense the outside through the hole, with enough effort and focus, but such a small opportunity would still render it very difficult for external actors to sense what was inside the box, primarily because of range. A large enough quantity of Velokite to enclose a person would be prohibitively expensive and a relatively poor substitute for a single ysalamir. Velokite is normally used for much smaller applications; this case is presented as a hypothetical.

Velokite is made from Void Stone, whose Force interference follows an inverse-square law as opposed to the defined-edge sphere of a ysalamir field. More importantly, Void Stone is divisible, meaning each separate fragment has its own inverse-square field of Force interference. A speck of Void Stone dust or a pebble has a very small radius of effective interference. By carefully spacing grains of dust within the duraplast, Velokite's creators can create a thin sheet of material that completely contains its own sheet of overlapping interference bubbles. In other words, those Force-interference bubbles are small enough that they are located entirely within the solid material, and numerous enough to fill the solid material completely. This makes Velokite Force-impermeable, obstructing Force senses and interference without the awkward area-of-effect scrambling/clouding of taozin amulets or the geometric intractability of ysalamiri bubbles. Velokite can be safely handled; it does not interfere with the Force senses or powers of its handlers. Nor could a large lump of Velokite serve the function of a ysalamir or a taozin amulet. Unlike nullification resin, Velokite's interference strength and gaps can be more precisely quantified and calibrated. For example, aperion double-slit experiments are far more precise with Velokite, and likely could not even be performed with nullification resin without very specific measures. Velokite is generally made in thicknesses of 1-10mm, with 5mm being adequate for most purposes.

In short, Velokite is a research material first and foremost. Its primary value lies in insulating experiments and artifacts from Force interference both passive and active. It is easily physically compromised by direct Force use, and only the denser varieties of Velokite can obstruct concerted, expert attempts to sense what lies beyond or inside. It is extremely expensive due to its origination in a single unique lump of rock, and concerted efforts to find more have proven unsuccessful. Even were more Void Stone to be found and returned to realspace, Velokite would remain of limited production and situational utility, little more than a curio for the inventive. It was created by Lord [member="Dissero"] and Rave Merrill, and is very difficult to duplicate, especially since Dissero has ownership of the Void Stone and keeps it both intact and well hidden.

This is pending secondary with the following warning(s):
  • This is a limited production item that is for all intents and purposes being produced from a limited, non-renewable, resource - there should be a point in time where the production of this is no longer possible.
  • As stated, the intent is to create an alternative to nullification resin. I do not want to find this being used to make a room or something of the sort to be used to confine force users.
