  • Introduction

“And who is he? The one riding atop my mount. Is he the leader of your merry little band?”

    “He is.”

    “And?”

    “And?”

“And, you giant fool- Who is he? What is his name? Why is he here, and what does he want with my planet?” The gem and jewelry adorned woman said impatiently and with a venomous tone as she marched shackled alongside the royal beasts.

He sighed. He was too used to impatient and entitled people. “Listen to me, Princess.” He put a hand up to stop her and any hope she might’ve had of getting information from him. “He is our leader, Uxo Orin, and his name should be enough for you.”

“Well it isn’t.” She hissed. She knew of Uxo Orin more or less by name only. He was a freedom fighter operating within Sith Borders. He was a bit of bad news but nothing the Sith Empire couldn’t handle.

“Unfortunate.” He said simply as he returned the woman’s deadly stare.

After long enough, the princess gave up on trying and put her focus back on marching alongside Uxo’s band of brigands, until the moment their focus slipped and she could escape.

“Pssst- Pssst- Hey Princess. I’ll give you the lowdown on Uxo.” One of Uxo’s more charismatic and criminally liberated companions whispered to the princess and the princess alone. “But you gotta’ spare me a jewel.” He negotiated.

“I will spare nothing!” She spat back.

“C’mon! I need something for this info. How about your scarf?”

    “It is a cravat!”

“So we’ve got a deal. You give me the “scarf” and I give you the lowdown?”

The princess thought she was above interacting with this man’s kind, but she wanted the information on Uxo, so she acquiesced. The scarf was removed and handed over to the personable man.

“Now that’s class.” He celebrated, pressing the silky royal blue cravat to his face.

“That’s worth more than your life!”

“Nice! I’m sure it’ll make a great hankie then.” He mimed blowing his nose.

    The princess grimaced in disgust.

“Okay, Okay, Princess. Enough jokes. You want to know who Uxo is? Why we came to your planet and put you in binders?”

“If you would be so kind.” She said sardonically.

“Ok, so just know that after I tell you this, we’re gonna have to kill you,” He joked but she wouldn’t know that.

“Wait! I-“ she tried to interrupt.

The man just put a finger up and continued. “Before Uxo was Uxo, He was Vengeance. A son of Dathomir, far removed from his home world. Like many, he’s been living under the thumb of the Sith for too long. The only difference between him and the common rabble is that he’s got the balls to do something about it.”

“He’s a smart enough guy, kind of a strategist, but more of a warrior. He gets hit hard and hits back harder. They say he used to be a Jedi, but I don’t buy it. He’s too rough around the edges to be one of them. Too young too. My money is on him being the luckiest man in this galaxy. Between all the precarious situations he’s gotten us out of, and all the women who’ve made goo goo eyes at him, I’d bet more than my money. I’d bet my life on it.” The man squinted at her as if he were looking for something.

“I mean even you were blushing earlier when he slapped those shackles on you.”

The princess’ jaw dropped at the incredulity and lewdness of the man’s statement.

“No judgements, Princess. We all have our tastes. Are you fond of the bindings or Uxo?”

“Why, I never!” She shouted, elevating the conversation to more than a whisper.

“C’mon! It just us girls talking. Look at him and tell me you wouldn’t.” He teased, matching her volume.

Reflexively, she did. Uxo Orin was a brigand, but carried himself regally. Unlike his men, Uxo sat straight up, and his head was held high. His face was serious and too weathered for someone his age. He looked a man who’d met some bad road but also one who faced that road valiantly. When he looked at her, she could see a strength, a wisdom, a care, and a pain in his eyes. Then he smiled at her, and the pain disappeared only for a moment. He knew what she was thinking, what her and his companion were conversing about. She blushed again, but this time it was equal parts fury as embarrassment. She knew she had been manipulated, and still she could not deny the newfound presence of attraction.

Uxo dropped back on his mount, the wolf-like creature and joined them. Sandwiching the marching Princess between the two mounts.

“So have you told her why we’re on her planet yet?” Uxo asked even though he already knew the answer. He’d been listening the entire time.

“No, Boss. I figured I’d leave that to you.” The men smiled knowingly between one another.

“G- Go on! Tell me why!”

Uxo looked at her with a simple and sympathetic smile. It was practiced and hard to tell it was fake. “You have a stutter. You’re nervous,” He observed. “But you’re brave. It suits you.” He extended his hand to help her onto the mount. She took it and he pulled her up and onto the beast’s back. She grasped Uxo as well as her shackled hands could so she wouldn’t fall.

“I don’t care what you think about me,” She composed herself to eliminate her stutter. “Just tell me what you want with my planet.” She pleaded finally.

Uxo sighed. He didn’t relish saying what he was about to say. “I want you.” He let the statement sit, and just when she was about to respond, he interrupted her. “I want to use you, your kingdom, and your planet. I want to put an end to the Sith.” Uxo watched the princess’ eyes go wide. “And I know this sounds crazy, but to do that, I need to marry you. Will you marry me?”

    End.
