DESCRIPTION

The Helix Syndicate Network, otherwise abbreviated as HSNET is essentially a parallel, secret HoloNet.

While the Syndicate is intercepting, cataloging, and monitoring the communications of others through the HoloNet, it transmits its own through the HSNET. Because the HSNET requires highly specialized communications equipment to access, it has become virtually impossible to counter-spy on the internal communications of the Syndicate.

The Helix Syndicate’s deep space listening posts, spy satellites, headquarters, and locations with listening posts functions all contain access points to the HSNET. Outside of this, there is no feasible way to connect with the HSNET and intercept the communications transmitted through it.

The HSNET is maintained, like the holonet, through a series of standard relays that float freely in deep space. Because of their remote locations, extreme methods of stealth, like a stygium field generator, are not required. A simple coat of material makes it difficult for the Relays to appear in passive scans, even if a ship ever happened to exit hyperspace exactly at the remote location a Relay was at. Without access to the HSNET, finding these Relays is a daunting task indeed.

As with traditional HoloNet Buoys and the inspiration for this technology, the primary drawback of this system is its cost to maintain. Placing the HSNET Relays and installing the necessary equipment is an incredibly arduous task not easily undertaken by smaller corporations or organizations.
