Up Above the World so High

Felicity had only been back home for a short while, days. Graxin would be talking to Mother soon, and her 'welcome back' party would be going on any day. They all seemed so glad to have her here safe and sound. Felicity, on the other hand, was less enthusiastic about being kept caged again. Sure, this was for the best. Sure, she'd have plenty of adventures when her big brother took her to train. But at this moment, Felicity was bored again.

She sat silently in the gardens, letting the warm Naboo sun beat down upon her bright blond curls. She'd been reading again, or trying to. Another book of fantasy stories. Books about magic and adventure, romance and danger. Owain was gone now. She didn't know when she'd see him again. And Glyph was... probably near by. He was never far away.

Glyph sighed and leaned over her shoulder with his head not very far from hers. Having simply jsut appeared, where from he didn't say when he spoke but he was more than sure that she was reading again as he looked down at the book himself. And in exact timing with his appearance itself, he spoke. "Reading again i see, well im sure that this is another good story now, no?" He looked at her, seeing if she would react in some way.

The sound of a voice just over her shoulder make the girl scream and fall right off the bench she was sitting on. A guard came running at once, pausing and bowing low to hide the amusement on his face.
"Everything alright, Lady Felicity?"

The girl growled, pulled the book out from under her back and waved a hand to dismiss him.
"Glyph. Why do you sneak up on people like that?" she grumbled, rising to her feet and dusting off her fine yellow dress.

"Now now, you know it was amusing to watch people react when you appear out of no where. So what are you reading?" She helped her up as he looked at her, everything about his face was in complete kindness. It was a silent kindness that hid his real purpose for being here. He would smile for a little bit longer before he would say something he knew he was going to come to regret.

The girl held the book up for him to see.
"The Princess of Winds," she shrugged, "It's... kind of my favorite. Don't laugh, okay? I know it's a kids story."

As embarassed as she looked, she was smiling. She ran her white gloved hands over the cover, as if she could feel her fathers fingertips on the warm leather surface.
"Daddy read it to me when I was a kid. He was always reading, but I think this might have been his favorite."
Her smile faded some. She hadn't seen her Father in months. She missed him terribly. He always had such good advice to give her.

Glyph smiled with her as he led her back to the seat and sat down next to her, speaking. "Don't worry, i promise not to laugh about something like that, we are all allowed to love what we love no?" He smiled a bit wider but inside his head he was cursing himself. Why did she have to smile now of all times, maybe he shouldn't have decided to tell her in a place where she could have a guard beat his ass off a cliff for upsetting her. Note to self, think out your plans a little better now there glyph...

She nodded, letting silence take over for the moment. This... was awkward. Why did he come to her now? Did he hear she was leaving? Did he know about her training?

"...You came here to say goodbye, didn't you?" she guessed, bringing her crystal blue eyes to meet his.
Her face showed no glee now. She was losing someone else now too. She would have to in order to be allowed to join the Jedi. She already gave up Owain. Now him.

"Yes... after what happened on Coruscant i dont think i can really just ignore it... im going to head off and towards the Jedi, maybe some time away from everything will make things better... i dont know." He sighed, he wasn't sure how she guessed he wanted to leave her, maybe for a little while, maybe more, he wasn't all too sure himself at his choice. "I just am am not sure what to think after what happened there not to mention my utter uselessness in anything resembling protecting you... hell i was being carried by you and big red that i had no chance to try and stop the guy."

The girl went silent, confusion on every inch of her face. Wait. Did he know? Or was he talking about something else? He must have heard that she was leaving right? But why was he talking like he was the one doing the leaving?

"Err... of course. I understand, but... You know i'm going to the Jedi too, right?"

She wondered what he would think of that now. If protecting her, or rather, failing to protect her is what was bothering him, then she could not imagine how he would feel knowing that she was going to be put into danger every minute of every day that she was training. She ran her fingers along the spine of the book. What would Daddy say if he knew too?

"Felicity... im not talking about just moving locations... if it was tthat it wouldn't be hard to say it." She looked confused, no she was confused, he could feel it as his empathy picked up on her emotions. 'You are an idiot Glyph, if she gets sad or worried or what ever you forgot you were going to sense it. Good Job.' He said in his own mind, sighing a bit as he tried to make what he was saying a bit more obvious.

"What are you trying to say?"

She bit down on her bottom lip, turning her entire body to face him. Why couldn't he just come out and say it? Didn't he like her anymore? This hesitation was just killing her!

"I... can't be around you anymore... i am sorry but i cannot be around you for a while Fel. This sadly also means that we can't consider eachother any more then just friends if that..." He said it without looking at her, staring at anything he could that just wasn't Felicity right now and while she was sitting there he found himself hating the moment more than anything.

There were few things that could make Felicity cry. She was used to a cold world of politics, people using each other for personal gain. But him? Felicity actually couldn't think of a single thing she could have used him for. Theirs wasn't a relationship of convenience. He was a boy that she had actually liked. Maybe someday, it might have been more.
Now that ship had set sail. It was over.

She set the book to the side, pulled her knees to her chest. Owain. Now Glyph. All she had left was Graxin, and he wasn't a friend, he was a teacher and nothing more.

"W-wow. My first break up and my first heart break too," she sniffed in a cracking voice, "You get to be a lot of my firsts, don't you?"

He felt it in an instant had to look at her as she sniffed and spoke, his own eyes dropping as he moved close so that he could hug her before she simply sat there in tears. "Fel, please stop, i didn't want to do this i just... things went so wrong on Coruscant that im so confused about everything. I just think perhaps some time as friends would be better... and you are going off to the Jedi, im pretty sure they lecture people with boyfriends for hours, im saving you from a lecture." He already hated this conversation... is it possible to turn back time?

A sob shook her body as his arms wrapped around her. Something about Coruscant, something about the Jedi, Something about a lecture. All useless. Her face had contorted, freckled nose wrinkled against the oncoming flood. If someone saw her crying like this, they would never let her live it down. Was she supposed to cry? Maybe she was just being overly emotional. It was just a first break up. It couldn't possibly hurt this bad.
So why did it?

Without letting him finish making excuses, she pressed her hands against his chest, shoving him away as hard as she could. Why did he think it was okay to touch her now? She was still a Queens daughter, and she was no longer his. He chose to leave, not her.

"Fel..." He didn't try to hug her again, instead he sat there and her own feelings added to his as while she refused to cry several tears did roll from his eyes and his face remained stained in a pain that was obvious. "Look, i swear i dont want this to end completely... Fel i just really don't know... please don't just sit there and ignore me."

"Liar!" she snapped, pointedly looking away from him. Her fingers inched towards her favorite book, the urge to throw it at him growing by the second. Instead, though, she clutched at the lemon colored fabric of her dress, hands shaking as she balled the fabric up in her palm. She had to stop, calm down, before she did something stupid.

"You need to leave," she whispered, "Walk away."

"I... understand." He sighed and stood up slowly before looking over his shoulder at Felicity. "We are still friends Fel... and its not like we aren't going in the same direction. After all, i am still your body guard." He smiled at her the kind expression back and the stupid smile that he tried to always keep there back as he walked away with his shoulders slumped and his head down.

The trembling in her shoulders eased after a moment. She looked up with her tear streaked face, watery blue eyes watching the retreating form. She couldn't say she didn't expect this. She couldn't say he was even wrong for leaving her. She opened her mouth to say something, but she lacked the courage. Nothing could help now. Even if he changed his mind, this chapter of her life was coming to a quick close.
She reached beside her, hand falling to the book she had been reading. Wordlessly, she picked it up again, cutting the pages open to the very page she had been on.

And just like that, Felicity's first love walked away.
