Meri Vale
Character
Meri shook her head gently at the first question, the motion small but deliberate.
"No," she said softly. "I remember it."
Her fingers tightened around the notebook in her lap, not in distress exactly, but in careful control.
"I remember it very clearly," she added, after a pause. "The rooms. The light in the mornings. The way the air smelled after rain." She stopped herself there, breath evening out again. "I just can't go back."
She glanced at Kuhbee then, catching the way his shoulders dipped with guilt, and hurried to soften it.
"You didn't upset me," Meri said, a little firmer this time. "It's just different, remembering something and being able to return to it. They aren't the same."
At his next question, and the droid's enthusiastic translation, something in her expression shifted. Not sadness. Wonder.
"Kashyyyk sounds…" She searched for the word, then smiled faintly. "Divine. Peaceful. Like it remembers everyone who lives there."
She tilted her head slightly, curiosity overcoming her usual hesitation.
"Can you go back?" Meri asked quietly. "Whenever you want, I mean. Or is it something you have to wait for, too?"
