Back home the Eternal Union remnant had access to the resources of a galactic-spanning nation. As they found themselves in a new place, cut off from their previous boons of riches, they had to get creative. They have reorganized their manufacturing capacity under a parastatal company that is controlled directly by the Eternal Union leaders and managed by the various foremen and engineers in cohort with the artificial intelligence that assists them.
Much of its current capacity is derived from the Eternal Union fleet. Little machine shops, engineering hubs, and mobile drydocks have all been integrated to make the manufacturing and repair more efficient.
As the EU swept across Rothana and removed from power a would-be tyrant Moff, they have added the world’s industrial might into the fold. The orbital shipyards have been modified to produce and manufacture Union-grade ships, but as new technology takes time to integrate, its output of new designs is currently limited.
RATIONALE
The Union War Industries Commission (UWIC) was organized out of necessity. The Eternal Union council realized that without access to their previous resources, the fleet would weaken and break-down. While they had access to machine shops, engineering hubs and more throughout the fleet, it was all organized on a per ship-basis, rather than focused with a unified goal.
This had to change and UWIC was the answer. It is an organization that does not care about profit, shareholder desires, or market penetration. It does not busy itself with selling its products on the market, because the only thing they serve is the Eternal Union.
That being said, it is not unheard of for some of its output to be found in the hands of the black market. These things are usually aggressively pursued and punished, but it is a big fleet and growing. Some things just happen to fall off the wagon, as they say.
