The Confederacy and its people were quite a peculiar culture. Their own Dauntless Commandos had saved him from his 12 year slavery on Kessel and he owed them his utmost gratitude. They liberated him from hell and possibly saved his life. Their commanding officer even went as far as to recruit him as a combat medic, considering that Joannis had some above average skills within the medical field. His combat, however, was lacking. As he integrated himself into the culture of the Dauntless Legion and their Commandos, he would find that they honored a rigorous training schedule. They trained, ate, slept, and trained even more.

After waking up in the barracks in a comfortable bed, something very unusual to him, he got ready for the day quite a bit earlier than the rest of the crew aboard the Rebellious Hawk. A few minutes into his new routine, the alarm was sounding for the rest to wake up. Sleeping in was a luxury he could not afford. He was lacking behind and a squad was only as strong as its weakest link. After eating breakfast quickly and quietly in his own bunk, he quickly made it to the armory while the rest of the Dauntless Legion was waking up. Upon arrival, he was greeted by a quartermaster droid. Though he missed his old mining power armor, it was time for something new. The droid suggested a few models such as a light scout armor, but then stopped at the Phase I Commando Armor. It was similar to something he'd seen before, but he couldn't quite pinpoint it. The droid checked the armor out and assigned it to specifically him.

After a quick stop by the armory, Joannis felt it was reasonable to stop by the best in class simulation room. Though he wasn't familiar with much technology like this, it was an easy system for him to get acquainted with. The simulation was close quarters, designed specifically to replicate that of a ship's tight corridors. Though he didn't know many people of the Legion, he had overheard that they were planning to help some sort of allied faction with defending from an invasion by the Mandalorians. His squad, along with the other Dauntless Commandos would supposedly be assigned to boarding and anti-boarding, meaning he'd need to quickly catch up to the rest of the squad in hand to hand combat, close quarters combat, and possibly zero gravity combat. For now, however, he'd focus on the close quarters aspect.

The simulation would be fairly simple according to the training advisor and one of the older, more veteran Sergeants of the legion. Not a commando, but a seemingly seasoned soldier. The simulation would take a few hours to complete, meaning it would be a fairly large replica of a ship with a ton of training droids and a variety of traps that were formerly seen in combat. His job was to compete. To earn his spot as one of the top established medics that was efficient in combat. Not to become a trustworthy commando, but to become undeniable. He had to fight.

The simulation was meant to highlight one of the toughest missions a Dauntless Commando faced: boarding a ship. The difficulty wasn't boarding a ship full of hostiles, it was knowing what the hostiles were. This simulation was a scenario where the simulated squad was given only the schematics of the ship. They had two objectives: disable the ship's shield generator and destroy the ship's oxygen source. They were going to perform a soft kill by destroying the shields and then a hard kill by destroying the oxygen and life support system. The intelligence of the simulated allies was set to above average, meaning that they thought differently than the typical simulation droid.

Joannis' simulated squad made it about 30 minutes undetected towards the ship's shield generator, as was their simulated plan. Then, they encountered a large patrol squad of about 10 to 15 enemies. Cover inside the ship was scarce. There was rarely any besides the corners of the tight corridors and the various crates inside of the hallways. All would suffice. There were about 3 men left of the previous patrol squad when reinforcements had arrived and encircled Joannis and his squad. This time, the size of the squad was about 15 to 20. There was no choice but to rush the last 3 men and hope that they would be eliminated so the squad could reposition themselves with sufficient cover. This quickly thought charge caused 2 of the 6 commandos to be downed by the cornered remnant of the first patrol squad. Joannis had to act fast to revive them. The simulated allies had certain points that medical actions had to be performed upon to be revived back into combat. Joannis quickly began dragging one of the downed commandos behind cover to apply bacta patches to certain pushpoints, the commando slowly began to get up.

The other commando had died immediately. A volley of blaster fire from the enemy reinforcements had struck him in the back as he was dashing around the corner to cover. There was nothing Joannis could do to save him. The squad's slicer closed a pair of blast doors behind the squad and they hoisted each other into the vents above. There was a major detour due to this slight defeat. Joannis pulled up the ship's schematics on a holopad to show the rest of the AI squad. They were about 10 minutes away from the heavily guarded shield generator. Therefore, the squad began crawling towards the shield generator to proceed to their first objective.
