- Songsteel: The metal used is not only lightweight but also resistant to incoming blaster and lightsaber attacks.
- Hot hot heat: The true power of the spear is in the insane amount of heat generated at the tip without effecting the rest of the weapon. Once a button is pressed on the electrum handle, the edge of spear becomes hot enough to cut phrik as a warm knife does butter.
- Defensive capabilities: Between layers of songsteel is a good smothering of Thermal Gel. While this gel was once used for orbital re-entry it has been repurposed to absorb kinetic damage on the battlefield.
- Extreme Heat: The spear's edge reaches sun levels of heat and is able to melt straight through most metals.
- Heat Resistant: Although the temperature of the spear can melt other weaponry and
- Songsteel: While the songsteel is tough it is not unbreakable. Overtime and with enough force applied it can be broken just like regular metal.
- Cybernetics: If an EMP field goes off near the spear it short circuits the heating device within the edge.
- Timed: The spear can only withstand the its own heat for a certain period of time. After twenty minutes of continuous use the electronics automatically shut off the heating and activate the heat venting processes, blasting short bursts of warm vapor for the next 5.
The Ukuvuthas were made, like many other new Dandu technologies, to help update the tribes fighting capabilities. The original designs are much like the spears they had on Zanjani but with the introduction of newer, tougher, metals that were once unavailable to them on their homeworld. Along with the discovery of new materials, they also added in a deadly heating device on the edge of the weapon. Making it hot was easy, but it was stopping the heat from melting the spear or harming the wielder that was tricky. Many Sumara slaves were sacrificed in the scientific process (and many others for chits and gigs) which eventually led them their heat sink discovery. By using vents, a series of tubes and certain focal points, they are able to keep the heat completely restricted to the edged end of the spear. Much like a lightsaber, the temperature of the weapon does not effect things not directly in contact with it.
