Tytos is a severe and humorless man. One might be forgiven for assuming he suffered some great hardships in his life, given his perpetually chilly demeanor. But this Umbaran has never suffered much. He has always been well fed, well maintained, and a roof over his head. He's now rather wealthy as well. It would seem, then, that there is no reason for his perpetually sour disposition - his endless stoicism. Except, perhaps, genetics.
Biography
Of Lucius Ardik's progeny, it was Thelon who got the most attention. That left Nathis Ardik to more or less do as he pleased. Nathis, romantic that he was, married for love into one of the lower castes. Then he used his family's resources to move somewhere more ideal. That is, anywhere without a caste system. Cantras Gola, for interest. The ordeal brought a great deal of shame to House Ardik and nearly cost them their good standing. Nathis was warned to never return, or he would likely be killed. Several attempts were made on Nathis' life anyway. One of them claimed his wife. His son Tytos had been born by that point, though was not old enough to comprehend what was going on. He was, however, just aware enough to catch the sudden shift in disposition that came over his father.
It might have been for this reason that Tytos grew up to be as dispassionate and detached as an Umbaran can be. It was with great chagrin that Nathis watched his son, his legacy, grow to be the same callously neutral clerk that Ardik men usually became. The optimistic, romantic outlook that held Nathis was unique to him. Nothing more. Nathis died fairly early on, but Tytos being the ruthless fellow that he was was more than self-sufficient by then. He did not attend the funeral, but he does pay good money to have the grave maintained properly. Tytos entered a career in finance on the planet of Cantras Gola. Not long after, he had wrested control of a bank for himself.
At some point, his firm was acquired by an organization known as the Helix Syndicate. Tytos' holdings were reworked into the newly minted Golan Financial Group, which now functions as an elaborate arm of the Helix Syndicate. If Tytos at all cared that his dealings had suddenly become criminal, he did not show it. His reputation for shrewd efficiency made him a primary contender for leadership of the Syndicate when its current head decided to leave. His success in managing the Syndicate eventually attracted the attention of another party as well...
