SPECIAL FEATURES
220-SIG Tactical Sensor Jamming Device: A Sensor Jamming Device used to limit the starships in the area from scanning the Type-K Assault Corvette until they are within 1KM of range. This is used to hide the Type-K Assault Corvettes primary function and appear to only be a Freighter Type K. (x)
840.z Holo-Targeting Suite: In conjunction with the targeting computer, the 840.z Holo-Targeting Suite allowed improved accuracy for gunners in the Type-K Assault Corvette. This was a necessary upgrade as the targeting computer itself was strained from the large amount of weapons systems, the 840.z allowing it to balance out the strain.
ANs-9.5w Wide Range Sensor System: A wide range sensor system used to detect starships in the vicinity, up to 100km of its current location. Used for detecting starships and studying commonly used Hyperlanes. (x)
Hyperdrive Signal Interceptor: The Hyperdrive Signal Interceptor detects flucations in the local area though not of its destination nor the type of ship. This sensor is used against Piracy, allowing those at stations to be more prepared for an ambush or assault. (x)
Ion Shield: When the Deflector Shields fail, the Ion Shield system will come online to stop Ionic damage for a small period of time (1-3 minutes). This is to prevent the Type-K Assault Corvette from being disabled. Afterwards, the Ion Shield will require fifteen minutes to recharge. (x)
Life Support
PED-21 Distress Beacon: The PED-21 Distress Beacon serves two purposes. The first is to attract pirates in the area to a damaged freighter for easy hauling and capture. The second is if the Type-K Assault Corvette is under heavy fire, it can modify the PED-21 Distress Beacon to call for help from friendly forces in the area.


Strengths:
  • Overwhelming Firepower: With four dual turbolasers, twenty quad laser cannons, four concussion missile launchers along with a compliment of starfighters, the Type-K Assault Corvette is a formidable foe, even to some lower end frigates on the market.
  • Under Disguise: From view, the Type-K Assault Corvette just appears to be a Freighter Type K. Along with Sensor Jamming capabilites, this keeps the facade up long enough for anyone wishing to sneak through customs or to surprise enemy combatants, even some pirates looking for an easy target.
  • Ionic Shielded: Equipped with an Ion Shield, this prevents the ship from being disabled after the deflector shield fails for at least an additional minute.
Weaknesses:
  • It Moves slower than most Heavy Freighters: With all the upgrades done to the weapon systems, it meant scaling back on engine power to the extent that it moves slower than most heavy freighters on the current market. More so, the maneuverability is so dreadful that commanders have to take care of starfighters getting to close to blind spot areas.
  • No Cargo Bay: The entire Cargo Bay was converted to allow a squadron of starfighters to be stationed on the Type-K Assault Corvette
  • Lower than Average Hyperdrive: To get the extra amount of energy to consistently use the 840.z Holo-Targeting Suite, the Type-K Assault Corvette had the hyperdrive reconfigured to take a much smaller intake of energy and the removal of the backup hyperdrive.
  • Long Maintenance Downtime: Due to the extensive amount of modifications, the Type-K Assault Corvette requires a full two day maintenance check every thirty days or every two combat operations. This is to switch out shorted circuits, bad wiring and checking for generator output levels. Failure to do this may result in malfunctions on board the ship which can include decreased weapon output and engine failure.
  • Down with the Ship: No escape pods are on board the Type-K Assault Corvette, resulting in full casualty list of the ship if destroyed.
  • Exposed Bridge: The bridge of the ship is most identifiable, being a large structure near the back of the ship and is also a large target for starfighter pilots.
  • Exposed Repulsorlifts and Atmospheric Danger: The four repulsorlifts exposed at the bottom of the ship are barely shielded and as such, can make atmospheric combat difficult. If two of them are destroyed, the Type-K Assault Corvette is forces to use full engine power and ascend to prevent itself from crashing into the planet. If three are destroyed, the Type-K Assault Corvette will plummet to the planet below.

Description:

After a holonews report over some of the recent piracy acts around Hutt Space, a large transport company called upon Haon Hafey to solve a rather unique problem. The area of piracy was around their central base of operations in Hutt Space and as such, required to convert two of their older Freighter Type Ks to combat operational status in case of an eventual attack. Taking it as a challenge, Haon Hafey accepted on the condition the ships were brought to Ord Mantell and brought planet side for modifications. Then began the long month long process to reconvert the two ships into Assault Corvettes.

The first major hurdle was to overhaul the entire power grid for the ship and update the generator. When this was completed, the designers gave way to installing various weaponry on the ship to specification though as time went on, more and more weapons were requested onto the ship until Haon finally had to call the company in question and demand to stop due to the amount of power required. By the time this was done, the weapons installed has put the ship into a category almost all on its own. Four double turbolasers, twenty quad laser cannons and four concussion missile launchers made the Assault Corvette into something unbelievable. However the problems became quickly apparent from the start once testing began.

With power levels being twenty percent off from being combat operational at any time, cut backs had to be made drastically to keep the Assault Corvette in full operational power. The first being the already aging engines being toned down to almost minimal power along with maneuvering thrusters. This gave the additional twenty percent in power required to power up the weapon systems but still required additional power for sensors. On debating this, another holocall came in from the company to ask for a hanger bay installed on the Assault Corvette. Already annoyed from this though already deep into development, Haon agreed and proceeded onto converting the entire cargo bay into a hanger bay for one squadron of fighters.

With the cargo bay being converted on both Freighter Type Ks, Haon Hafey ordered the installment of several sensors that included the ANs-9.5w Wide Range Sensor System and the Hyperdrive Signal Interceptor. However once installed, the ANs-9.5w took so much power that it reduced the weapons system yet again, making Haon Hafey go into a fit of rage. This resulted in the Hyperdrive Rating being reduced to 6 in an effort to converse more power to the Freighter Type K in an effort to keep sensors online. However once that was finished, another problem was outlined as the targeting systems were to slow on activation. This was due to the amount of weapons systems installed at once which resulted in a purchase of 840.z Holo-Targeting Suite to work into integration with the targeting system. While this boosted the targeting system, the result however was not enough power again.

Finally giving into modifying his design extensively, he removed the backup hyperdrive completely and reduced the hyperdrive rating to 7 for more power to the sensor arrays. While this was accomplished, it also provided an abundance of a power supply to which 220-SIG Tactical Sensor Jamming Device was installed near the center of the modified Freighter Type K. Still having an abundance of power at this point, Haon Hafey focused on upgrading its defense capabilities to which led to an older Ion Shield being salvaged from a nearby corvette and placed onto the modified Freighter Type K with Life Support being installed rather quickly afterwards.

With the Assault Corvette nearing completion, one of the workers gave the comment about having no escape pods installed. At that point, it became clearly obvious of a design flaw and without any time to correct it properly and almost no resources left, it was opted to instead install a small bay behind the engines to let out a PED-21 Distress Beacon to which Haon used for as a dual purpose help and attract method for and against piracy. The two ships were then changed on completion to the name Type-K Assault Corvette with the names "Alarm" and "Awaken". The destination of the names were given for one ship being promptly on duty constantly with the other having to be "Awoken" in case of attack. Overall, the two ships were twin sisters in design in almost every identical way save for captain preference of quarters and personal bridge modifications.

Upon completion, the holocall was given to the company to which was given an unusual tone. Further investigation revealed the company had to shut down after a piracy attack from two weeks after the last holocall. This resulted in an almost near bankruptcy for the workshop as over a few hundred thousand credits worth was poured into the project and only due to the salvage in the area for weaponry kept them along with the company funding the venture, just kept it barely above the black to continue operating. The "Alarm" and "Awaken" Type-K Assault Corvettes have been for sale for over a month in hopes to at least get back what was put into the corvette and continue creating ships for Have Gun Will Travel.

The major stats all seem to balance out, and you've got a serious set of combat-related weaknesses. This is minmaxed to heck, and a class 7 hyperdrive is going to hurt, but I sure wouldn't want to run into some of these if they're on planetary defense duty or something. Cool concept, turning clunky freighters into Q-ships. I'm down with this.
