DESCRIPTION
The Type-40 Infantry Blaster Rifle, affectionately known by troops and armorers alike as the 'Blasrifle', is a sturdy infantry rifle designed for effective use in a wide variety of scenarios. As Coalition military doctrine evolved and took shape, it became obvious to military leadership that a robust and versatile weapon would be needed that could be issued to all soldiers, both those at home and those in the most remote locations unlikely to receive resupply. As such, a large reward was offered to anyone who could design a simple, inexpensive weapon to meet this new challenge.
The result of this was the Blasrifle. The weapon contains a rechargable power cell with enough power stored for 10,000 shots before needing recharge, which can be done simply by placing the rifle in a standard storage rack. The large magazine forward of the pistol grip contains enough refined Tibanna gas for 200 blaster shots before reloading. Instead of using a focusing crystal fo generate a particle beam, the weapon uses a series of magnetic coils that run the length of the barrel to contain the plasma in a magnetic field, and focus the energy into a tight beam from the rifle to its target, which exists for less than half a second before disipating. This less conventional design was chosen to cut down on parts that could wear out and need replacement, such as the focusing crystal.
The bolt, or more accurately described lance of blaster energy is fast traveling and extremely accurate, however the lance of energy is considerably less powerful than other weapons of similar size and weight. The weapon struggles to penetrate medium body armor at medium and long range. The mechanics of the rifle are contained within a plasteel shell, making the weapon lighter than other blasters of similar size.
The weapon was also designed with a certain amount of modularity in mind. The muzzle has a vibrobayonet lug, and the weapon can be issued out with basic iron sights, holographic optics, and long range scopes and bipods. Though simple and less powerful than some of its counterparts, the weapon is cheap, easy to manufacture, sturdy, and has become both prolific in service and loved by those to whom it is issued.
