Trials of Mandalore

Mandalore
Sandis had managed to get a little sleep on the Mandalorian's ship. She soon awoke from the dreamless sleep when a monitor on the wall began to beep. They had exited Hyperspace; they had arrived at Mandalore.
Sandis sat up. She remained strapped to the chair in Verz's ship, and as she tugged on the straps, the door opened. There stood the Mandalorian. "Time to go?"

Verz had stayed awake during the trip, cleaning his weapons and armor. When R3 alerted him that they were about to exit hyperspace, he got up, put his cleaned armor back on. He walked to the detention cells, and opened the only occupied one. He saw Sandis tugging on the straps holding her to the chair, and heard her ask "Is it time to go?"

"We'll be planetside soon." He answered in his gruff voice, and put on his helmet. He then walked over to her and undid the bindings. After he finished, he handed her some water and walked the to door.

"You have my permission to leave the cell."

Sandis stood up, stretching her aching joints. The trip must have been longer than she thought, because her knees ached. She felt an immediate shock of pain in her ankle, however, as she sat back down, and removed her boot. The wound was swelling. Just great, she thought. She put her boot back on, and stood up, limping. She drank gratefully from the bottled water, not having had a drink since the day before.
She wondered when she would ever return to the Jedi Academy on Coruscant. It would be a considerable time, even if she managed to excel in the training. She was likely going to find it difficult to learn the language, so she could count on that taking a large chunk of time.
Focusing on the task at hand, she followed Verz out of the cell and back to the cockpit.

Verz patted R3 on it's head, and the droid beeped in response. He nodded, then sat down at the controls, guiding the ship into the atmoshpere of Mandalore, after identifying himself to a warship, of course. A voice came through on the comms, greeting him.

"Permission to enter the atmoshpere is granted,Rally Master Horak."

"Thank you ner vod."

The warship flew past them, and Verz flew the Firespray into the atmoshpere of his homeworld.

Sandis gaped at the Mandalorian ship as they passed it by. She sat down behind Verz, and looked past it at the approaching planet. It was always fascinating to her, descending through the different levels of a planet's atmosphere. The Firespray flew through the sky and landed in a hangar bay. Many Mandalorian pilots were littered around the hangar.

Verz got out of his pilot's chair, and spoke to Sandis.

"We'll have to take a transport from here. The ride to my place isn't long. Just dont cause trouble."

With that said, he grabbed a walking stick he had, and gave it to her to use. He then walked to the airlock and opened it. Outside was a mechanic, who started speaking to Verz in Mando'a. He responded, also in Mando'a.

Sandis hobbled on the walking stick, grateful for it. She stepped outside to Verz and a mechanic speaking. She couldn't understand a single thing they were saying. She shivered; the Hangar was cold. She also had no idea what season it was on the planet. She wished she had not gotten rid of her Jedi Robe in the pursuit.

The mechanic spotted Sandis standing behind Verz, and asked him who she was. He made a quick reply in Mando'a, then turned and spoke to Sandis.

"Come on. There should be a transport waiting for us."

Verz lead Sandis to a waiting hovercar piloted by a droid. The droid greeted Verz, and queried him, asking security questions in Mamdo'a. He responded, and the droid unlocked the door. Verz helped Sandis into the car, then got in, and shut off the droid, prefering to drive his own vehicle. He handed Sandis a jacket, as she said she was cold. It made sense. It was fall on Mandalore. He started driving away from the hangar.

Sandis put the jacket on gratefully. They passed quickly through New Mandalore, a bigger city than she expected. The sun was setting on the foreign world when they exited the city, and into the outskirts, and beyond that, into a forest. From there, it did not take them long to arrive at Verz' home, in the middle of the woods. They entered the house and Verz helped her to a bedroom. She rested her head on the surprisingly comfortable pillow, and instantly fell asleep once more.

After he helped her to the couch and she fell asleep, Verz walked through his home, making sure everything was in order, the returned to his room and took off his helmet, setting it on an armor rack. He then headed to the kitchen to get some food ready. He was hungry, and he imagined Sandis would be as well, when she woke up.

Sandis awoke late the next morning. Her ankle wound continued to swell, and she doubted it would get better soon. She figured this would be with her for the rest of her life.
She sat up, using her newly acquired walking stick to support her. She limped into the kitchen to the smell of food. Before he could say anything, she asked him, "Do you have anything to make the swelling go down on this?" pointing to her ankle.

Verz heard Sandis walk in while he was eating. Nothing fancy, just a bowl of cereal. He pulled out a pill and placed it on the table.

"This is just a painkiller. That ankle will probably need surger, though it isn't urgent."

Sandis took it gratefully, and sat down as Verz handed her a bowl of cereal as well. She had not realized how hungry she was when her stomach rumbled loudly. She put a spoonful and her mouth and asked, "When are we getting started?"

Verz laughed at Sandis's comment. He coughed though, nearly choking on some cereal, but recovered soon enough.

"Soon enough. We can get you some light armor, made of duraplast, so you can practice wearing it. When you're ankle is healed enough to walk on, that's when the fun begins."

"What kind of equipment do I get as a Mandalorian?" asked Sandis, becoming a little excited. While it may not have been the life she would have chosen, she had always had an admiration and respect for the Mandalorians. She was looking forward to learning. "What do the colors on your armor mean? Do I get to make my own?"

Verz was surprised by her enthusiasm. He chuckled,.then answered her questions.

"Well, you get armor, a blaster, you know . Soldiering equipment. Armor colors are a personal choice. Red, like mine, shows the wearer honors their father. And you won't actually smith the armor, but you chose designs and colors."

"Interesting. So you'll teach me how to use blasters and stuff like that." Sandis hoped that she would not have to have one of those giant jetpacks; she'd seen Jedi Knights jump higher and faster than Verz had with his. "Can I get one of those grapple-wrist launchers?"
