Training Day

Aboard Darth Roth's ship
Edge of Sith Space

In space, the days seemed to drag on forever.

Especially when he was stuck on his father's ship for weeks at a time. Darth Roth did not mind it, obviously. He had lived on the outskirts since the One Sith collapsed. Carter was different, however. He was young and knew that there was more to learn than just what his father could teach him. Carter respected his father's knowledge, but he was eager to leave the nest and see what the galaxy had to offer a young Sith.

Now the Acolyte was just down the hall from the renovated training room. Some members of his father's loyal battalion littered the hallway. Many of them had been with his father since before the fall of the One Sith, and were veterans in their own right.

As Carter neared the door, it was pushed open. Out walked his father's other Apprentice, Brusco Droutin. Brusco was a human hailing from Lialic in the Core. Brusco had been Darth Roth's apprentice for a decade now, and was well past the threshold typically required to be Knighted. Carter could not tell why he stayed. Brusco grimaced slightly at the sight of Carter.

Nonetheless, Carter pushed past Droutin and into the training room to begin the day's lesson with his father.

As Carter entered the white room, he looked at his father. His hair going grey, and his face beginning to show his age. Still the Sith Lord kept himself well shaved, a habit he held from when he was in the Army of the One Sith. Carter fell to one knee as he drew closer to his father, and bowed his head. Darth Roth gestured him up with his off hand, still holding his lightsaber in his left. "Rise, Carter." The Acolyte did as he was told, and stood up straight. He looked again at his father, now noticing the shine of his forehead due to the sweat that sat upon it. Silently, he pulled off the most external layer of clothing and stood with his robes.

Father and son stood staring at each other, until finally the Sith Lord ignited his lightsaber. Carter soon followed and the two faced off. The duel started off slow, with Roth allowing his son to start off aggressively. The Acolyte was beginning to feel confident as his father backed into the wall, however almost immediately Roth finds and exploits an opening. The Lord opened up and continued his path onward, hammering down hard against Carter's lightsaber. After just a few seconds, Carter found himself against the wall. He realized he was caught off guard too late, as his father swung once more, and stopped his blade just a few inches from Carter's head. Roth stepped back and gestured his son up, "Again." he said.

The two continued their training session for another hour. Carter left the room exhausted, and Roth left with just a little more sweat on his brow than when they had started.
