OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To sub a common pack animal for Zaathru.
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: Based primarily on llamas.
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Toteru
  • Designation: Non-sentient
  • Origins: Arboria, Zaathru
  • Average Lifespan: 25 standard years
  • Estimated Population: Planetary
  • Description: A donkey-esque creature with a long neck, horns, long floppy ears, a long tail, and shaggy wool fur.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type 1
  • Average Height of Adults: 1.8 meters (6 feet)
  • Average Length of Adults: 3 meters (10 feet)
  • Skin color: If you were to shave one, its skin would be pale pink.
  • Hair color: Their bodies are covered in thick woolly fur, giving them a shaggy appearance. This fur must be regularly shorn for the sake of the animal's comfort and hygiene. Depending on the breed, their wool may be white, gray, or black in color.
  • Distinctions: Males of the species are larger than females. Different breeds may have differently colored fur, or slight variations in their features, but there is nothing particularly significant about these differences apart from aesthetic appearance.
  • Races: As previously mentioned, there are different breeds with different coloration or slightly different features.
  • Force Sensitivity: Non-Sensitive
Strengths:
  • Pack Animal: A staple of life of Zaathru, toteru are among the most common pack animals found on the planet. Their strong backs make them suitable as mounts, and they can also be used as plow animals.
  • Wool: The wool of the toteru can be used to create textiles useful for keeping warm.
Weaknesses:
  • Temperamental: Mature males of the species are notoriously aggressive and prone to unpredictable behavior. They will fight with other males of their species for dominance, and can also attack their masters.
  • Dietary Requirements: Toteru are grazers; their digestive systems are adapted to having small meals over a period of time, rather than one large meal. Feeding them improperly can make them very sick or even kill them.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Herbivore; toteru are grazers, feeding on grass, hay, flowers, and other field plants.
  • Communication: Humming; this form of communication is somewhat similar to that of the sentient Zaathri, who whistle different tones as a form of speech.
  • Technology level: N/A
  • Religion/Beliefs: N/A
  • General behavior: Toteru are social animals and live with others as a herd, taking care of each other and protecting themselves from predators. The social status of a toteru can be changed at any time; picking fights allows an individual to move up or down through the ranks of the herd's social hierarchy. This is usually done between males fighting for dominance. Aggressive behavior is also used for discipline, although it can also be part of play.
  • If they are well-socialized, they can be very friendly to their handlers. It is only if they become overly familiar with them that the aggressive behaviors they are known for will manifest. Over-familiarity results when the toteru is bottle-fed, over-handled or over-socialized in their youth, causing them to make no distinctions between their handlers and other members of their species. Thus they will engage in spitting, kicking, and neck-wrestling with their handlers, all of which are normal social behaviors between toteru, but general unwelcome for members of other species.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The toteru are a species native to Zaathru. They have been domesticated by the Shaal and Zaathri for thousands of years, used for their wool, milk, meat. The Shaal also use them as mounts, with a few strains of the species having been bred to serve as battle steeds (although they are not as suitable to this as horses, a foreign species which has recently been introduced to Zaathru).
