Biography
Born and raised on Csilla, Valen was destined for a role in military affairs, as his father was a commander in the Chiss Defense Force and his mother was a professor at the Csilla Military Academy. Enrolled at the age of thirteen as was the common practice, Valen immediately went to work learning as much as he could about his fellow students and military tactics. He didn't win any admirers, bar his future wife, as his overly analyzing mind angered many fellow students when he could reveal their secrets.
Graduating near the top of his class, he was posted to a Chiss ship as second lieutenant, and it appeared his career was on track to be rapid. Two things stopped any upward mobility however. While marrying his wife put a slight hold on his career, the second situation stopped everything dead in its tracks. An academy classmate of his used his family's name and prestige to gain command of the force that Valen was serving in.
As the commanding officer of the squadron of ships that Valen's was a part of, he stopped his hated rival from advancing any further while Valen was forced to watch other classmates race past him to take leadership positions amongst the Chiss. Tragedy then struck as his wife died giving birth to their daughter, Tor'lynala'di.
Seeing he was getting nowhere and his talents were being waster, Valen's mentor proposed he look elsewhere for a chance to advance in rank and gain vengeance upon thos that had stalled him. So taking his now six year old daughter with him, Valen makes his way out into the galaxy to find a chance to shine.
