Out of Character Information

Intent: To create an unique form of controlling vehicles and droids that reflects the movement of the pilot.
Image Source(s): Images are credited in captions below each picture.
Canon Link: N/A
Restricted Missions: N/A
Primary Source: My mind and the Mechs from Pacific Rim and Avatar.

Production Information

Manufacturer: Torr Industries
Model: N/A
Affiliation: Companies | Torr Mechanical Designs and Schematics & Kiribian Systems Armoury
Modularity: Yes. The bottom half of the Controls may be removed and replaced with conventional pedals. The main material (generally Durasteel) used may also be changed. A 'seeing-eye' mask may be provided to see through the eyes of the droid.
Production: Limited
Material: Durasteel, Insulfoam, Electrical Components.

Special Features

- Able to reflect the pilot's movement.
- Complex Electronics.
- Able to communicate with the receiving vehicle/droid over large distances - providing a satellite dish is attached.
- Able to see through the eyes of the droid - providing a seeing-eye mask is provided to the pilot. (Droid Specific)

Strengths

Original: Movement reflective controls are a relatively new development by Torr Industries and a completely original idea from the mind of Darren Torran. Although they haven't be introduced on the open market as of yet, hopefully they will be soon.
Easily Equipped: Specifically without the lower body portion of the full set, movement reflective controls are extremely easy to equip. Just start it up, slide your arms into the gauntlets and you're ready to go.
Smooth Movement: Movement reflective controls are designed specifically to make the movement of mechs smoother and reflective of human movement. This makes the vehicles and droids a lot more maneuverable than they would've been originally.

Weaknesses

NOT EMP Resistant: The movement reflective controls are not immune to EMPs in any way, shape or form and should they be hit by a EMP, they will be caused to malfunction. This leads us on to our next weakness...
Malfunction: Should the system choose to malfunction because of any factor (most likely an EMP), the pilot will be unable to remove the gauntlets without help and will be stuck in the position they are in until help is provided.
Energy Needed: For the system to function properly, it needs to be provided a large amount of energy, so much that energy may have to be drawn from the weapons and defences in order to keep the system running, potentially leaving them deficient of energy.

Description

Movement reflective controls are a relatively new development by Torr Industries to suffice for Darren Torran's need to improve his vehicles with unique and original technology. It was manufactured to allow vehicles and droids to have increased maneuverability and reflect the movement of the pilot. This makes the mech or droid act disturbingly akin to a human, but makes for very effective and awesome combat situations. At the moment, the technology is not open to the majority of the galaxy with but a few exceptions (one being [member="Darren Torran"] himself and another being the Kiribian Systems Armoury).

Although it makes for smooth and easier movement for mechs, as everything, the system has it's drawbacks. For example, it's need for a large and constant energy supply. This makes the system energy deficient and slightly impractical for much larger combat mechs that would most likely need to take energy away from their defences and armaments in order to power the system to it's full capabilities. Another weakness is that, if the system malfunctions, the pilot's hands are stuck in the gauntlets and can not be released without assistance.

Overall, movement reflective controls (while they have their weaknesses) are a great feat of engineering and make mechs much easier to control and maneuver. They are a pilot's best friend.

The darkness lays ever near the light.
Oops! Posted this on the wrong character. Just so the judge knows, this sub was meant to be made on this character ( @Darren Torran ) and so everything in this is affiliated with him.

This submission borders on the edges of what is acceptable for a Star Wars setting.
  1. Droids are not pilot-able machines.
  2. Mechs and all extension of them are strictly banned. (Pacific Rim, Avatar, The Matrix, Gundam Wing, Transformers, etc.)
If you wish to continue with this submission you will need to remove all mentions and references to mechs, as well as remove the ability to control any kind of droid. Droids are robotic entities with pre-programmed protocols utilizing a droid brain. The only way this will be a passable submission is if this is converted into a means for a commander of a walker to take command of the controls using a type of holodisplay, be it either a HUD or using a HoloProjector. Otherwise I will have to deny this submission.

All submissions need to conform to the general idea of Star Wars. No Gundam Wings, no Transformers.

Fair enough, but the whole idea behind my concept was that the "mech" (which is basically a scaled down bipedal walker) would reflect the movement of the pilot. So, unfortunately, I ask you to please deny this submission as I can't really see a suitable way forward that in-keeps with my original idea.
