Out of Character Information

Intent: To create a unique way of controlling a walker's weapons and defence systems while also keeping track of system vitals and energy assignment.
Image Source(s): Images credited under each picture.
Canon Link: N/A
Restricted Mission(s): N/A
Primary Source: Me!

Production Information

Manufacturer: Torr Industries
Model: N/A
Affiliation: Torr Industries | Closed-Market
Modularity: Holographic Interface may be coupled with a radar or sonar system.
Production: Mass-Produced
Material: Durasteel, Electrical Components

Special Features

- Holographic Interaction gloves allow the user to control the weapons and defences of the walker using simple hand movements and gestures.
- Holographic Interface shows the vitals of the walker that it is built into. This Interface may also be coupled with a radar or sonar system at the choice of the manufacturer.

Strengths

New & Unique: Being a relatively new and unique design, it means most have never come against it before - therefore having a slight advantage.
Smoother Movement: The pilot having full control over the upper body of the walker means that it moves much smoother and similar to a sentient being.
Holographic: The unit projects two holographic 'gauntlets' that detect the movement of the pilot's arms while simultaneously projecting an interface that shows the walker's vitals such as fuel level, system health etc. This means that if the system should shut down or malfunction for any reason (most likely an EMP) the pilot's arms will not get stuck within metal gauntlets nor will their movement be restricted in such a circumstance.

Weaknesses

Must be Integrated during Manufacturing: The unit must integrated during the manufacturing process - eliminating the option of it being used in the manufacturing of any walkers without explicit permission.
Energy Draining: The unit relies on a large and steady amount of energy - meaning that it isn't particularly efficient in that aspect.
Restricted to Bi-Pedal Walkers: Due to the way it is designed, the unit can currently only be used on Bi-Pedal walkers.

Description

The Holographic Movement Reflective Control Unit - or the HM-RCU - is an new development in walker controls made by Torr Industries. It allows the pilot of a Bi-Pedal walker (providing said walker has arms) to control the upper body (from the waist up) of the machine. The advantage of using this unit compared to the conventional controls is it's ability to allow smoother movement in the arms of the walkers that reflects that of a sentient being.

The unit projects two 'gauntlets' that the pilot must put his hands into. These gauntlets read the movement of the pilot's arms with extreme accuracy and transfer these movements into the walker's arms with little to no delay. Meanwhile - a X shape harness attached to the sides of the control seat that spans across the torso of the pilot reads the movement of the rest of the upper body while also doubling as a seatbelt. In addition to this, a holographic projected screen shows the vitals of the walkers such as the fuel, system health etc.

Unfortunately, with all of this complexity comes the need for a lot of energy. In the case of emergency, a protocol is programmed into the system that detects a drastic decline in energy supply and draws on the energy of either a backup supply or the weapons of the walker - this depends on the design of the walker as to which is used.

Also, due to cosmetic preference and generalised common sense, this unit is only compatible with Bi-Pedal walkers. After all - wouldn't it looks weird for a multi-legged walker to have arms?

Hey! I'm assuming you've forgotten about this - so I'm just bumping you to make sure you get to this at some point. If not - and there is some other reason - I ask that you would simply alert me so I may Second Chance this in order to get a new judge.

  • All submissions need to conform to the general idea of Star Wars. No Gundam Wings, no Transformers.
Although this is no Gundam Wing or Transformer, the spirit of the rule is something that doesn't conform to the general idea of Star Wars, as far as technology goes, and so far this submission is quite clearly a mecha, which doesn't conform to the spirit of Star Wars.

The term mecha (メカ meka) may refer to both scientific ideas and science fiction genres that centers on robots or machines controlled by people. Mechas are typically depicted as "walker" types of Mobile robots.

This is denied on concept, but you can go about getting a Second Chance at a later point.
