Toroid Plasma Weapon Technology

OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Create the underlying technology constituent strengths and weaknesses for modern Norr Toroid Plasma Weapon Technology which I want to have its' own features and quirks reflecting the Norr's psychology but as well with the idea that they've developed this technology in isolation with little if any influence from the trends across the wider galaxy. I envision it as significantly more destructive but that the destruction cuts both ways.

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Accelerator Poles.
  • Collimator Barrels.
  • Fusion-Powered.
  • Toroid Chamber.
STRENGTHS
  • Kilovolt Output: Exotic and powerful individual combat weapon systems using this technology fire projectiles with power outputs ranging from 100 Kilovolts to 1.5 Megavolts at 2-3 Daltons. The effects of this on unarmoured targets can be dramatic. On the lower end of the power output, direct impacts can result in full-thickness burns consistent with what would be described as 'third' or 'fourth' degree; physiological consequences include shock as perishable fluids in the humanoid circulatory system and organs are flash-vaporised, and the circulatory structures themselves are destroyed. Impacts around the 100 Kilovolt output can easily dismember limbs and cauterise the wound. At the higher end of individual combat weapon system power output, about 1.5 Megavolts. As can be expected, the projectiles from such individual weapons punch through unshielded contemporary body armour like a hot knife through butter, turning resilient materials like Titanium into molten slag, with exceptions to the more exquisite and dense materials such as Beskar, which tend to shrug off the projectiles.
  • Plasma Fire: Plasma flames caused by the typical personal weapons created using this underlying technology typically exceed 3000 degrees Celsius; this is almost double the melting point of Titanium which is a reputedly resilient material more durable than Durasteel, which is a predominant armour material used in the galaxy.
  • Rate of Fire: Regarding individual weapon systems, the repeating rate of fire is impressive and superior to legacy systems but still inferior to most ballistic or kinetic weaponry. Typical rates of fire for repeating plasma weapons using the principles of this technology range from 360 rounds per minute to 560 rounds per minute. Considering the damage these weapons can inflict from their power output combined with high rates of fire typically results in personal weapon systems that dominate the close-quarters combat environment.
  • Rugged: Much like its' creators, the technology yields rugged and reliable plasma weapons which contrasts with the reputation of directed energy weapons failing or malfunctioning as soon as they encounter conditions that are anything other than a sprawling metropolis. Norr plasma weapons are as sturdy as they are destructive.
WEAKNESSES
  • Deflector Shields: Systems such as personal deflector shield generators interdict the projectiles of weapons made with this technology, hampering its ability to impact the protected target and inflict actual damage.
  • Diminishing Power: The magnetic fields generated by these weapons are not sufficient to hold the charged particles together over long ranges, particularly in a type I atmosphere. Personal weapon systems leveraging this technology undergo phenomena when they travel through the atmosphere whereby they steadily shred energised particles outside of the magnetic field; the result of this is that the projectiles steadily become less potent as they approach and go past their effective ranges, which is typically 200 metres for the average rifle-sized personal weapon system.
  • Fusion Battery: Individual combat weapon systems utilising the principles of Norr Toroid Plasma Weapon Technology are powered by miniature Deuterium-Tritium nuclear fusion batteries easily large enough to fit into the palm of a baseline human's hand; these batteries explode if breached, unleash the total of their stored energy, which is considerable. Generally, a fully charged battery breached on an individual combat weapon system would result in a correspondingly miniaturised thermo-nuclear explosion. Almost certainly vaporising the weapon system and operator.
  • Ionising Radiation: Toroid Plasma Weapons emit significant amounts of alpha and beta radiation when fired; operating any weapon systems where the user is exposed to the projectiles results in them increasing their cumulative dose of ionising radiation. Extended periods of exposure to the shots can bring on the symptoms of acute radiation poisoning, such as Painful blisters forming on exposed skin, high fever, fatigue, weakness, low blood pressure and increased susceptibility to infection. The amount of radiation exposure is directly proportional to the power of the weapon system in question.
  • Lightsabres: Toroid projectiles are magnetically sealed; when impacting a lightsabre blade, the polarity of the power supply causes toroid projectiles to deflect off and away from the lightsabre blade. A skilled force wielder at close range could aim to send the shot back at the source. This also goes for magnetically sealed doors and objects, which have the same potential to send a Toroid ricocheting wildly off the surface.
  • Projectile Velocity: Compared to legacy directed energy weapons, individual combat weapon systems use the Toroid plasma technology to fire projectiles at a higher velocity, but it's still abysmal compared to ballistic weapons. The muzzle velocity of most individual combat weapon systems falls between 100 to 200 metres per second. This has implications for ranged combat, where the target might have displaced at the time the weapon is discharged versus when the projectile arrived. Toroid plasma weapons shine best at close range, under two-hundred metres, consistent with Norr's aggressive psychology.
  • Reduced Capacity: Undoubtedly powerful, power comes at a cost, and its' endurance in this case. The typical individual combat weapon system utilising this technology will generally have no more than anywhere between twelve to two-hundred shots per fusion battery, depending on the power of the individual projectiles. Compared to a weapon system like the legacy long-barrel DC-15A, which has an ammunition capacity of 500 shots on low power and 300 shots on maximum power before expending its' magazine. This has implications for carrying additional ammunition, which increases the risk of the battery getting breached and a catastrophic explosion.
DESCRIPTION
In 874 ABY, the Grutter Norr Ryk's government put out a tender to industry for the development of brand-new revolutionary plasma-based energy weapons specifying that they had to produce defined power outputs in their projectiles; in 875 ABY, they had received multiple proofs of concept as the Norr scientific community had an opportunity to study captured example of foreign plasma weapons through their relationship with the then, Empire. After fourteen years of development, private industrial concerns produced prototypes and presented them to the military for testing. The prototypes were well received, and production models were quickly built. Toroid Plasma Weapon Technology has formed the basis for continued Ryk-directed energy weapon development, including developing and producing everything from self-propelled artillery to starship cannons.

Hello I shall be handling this... so lets start off the bat. Rapid fire disruptors are going to be a hard sell on their own in a unique sub. the chance for mass production will be next to improbable. The highest I would approve this at is semi-unique.

G'day mate, so from what I understand, you have an issue with its' capability of molecular destabilisation as that is a characteristic of a disruptor, if we bump that off happy to call it a day?

Molecular destabilisation.

You still have it in the submission.

And after some talks without a canon example rapid fire disruptors are not going to pass.

Per the disruptor article

"As a drawback, in addition to being illegal and short-ranged, other than the Tenloss DXR-6 disruptor rifle, disruptors generally only had enough ammunition for a few shots, and were incapable of firing rapidly or being set to stun. However, some disruptor pistols were capable of being set to overload, a setting which greatly increased the pistol's power for a single shot. Unfortunately this usually resulted in the firearm being rendered useless, due to the weapon's internals suffering damage from focusing even more energy into what was already an unstable form of tibanna gas particles."

The rate of fire and range even ammo capacity were low. Technology could advance in time but to the state a disruptor is on par if not better then a regular blaster. Is a no.

G'day mate, that was an error, I did a Control + F for any mention of molecular destabilization and it should be gone now.

Thank you, however as removing two words but keeping the same power output is not going to pass. A rapid fire blaster cannon like the clones or mandalorians could use is possible but those had the ability to exhaust their shot quickly and were few in number. As with other submissions wording is important and arbitratry power levels meaningless aside from being something that requires more balance to to required if they are included. For the strength and rate of fire a maximum production of unique is the highest I would go this is designed to be strong so its production should reflect it.
