To Right a Wrong

Valik

Professor of Alchemy
Warren Valik had always considered Alchemy to be one of the highest skills and talents that a Force User could pursue. A blending of the sciences, the Force itself to break those sciences, and the artistic touch to create a masterpiece. If you had asked Valik a year ago if he thought there could ever be too much Alchemy he would scowled at you, given a speech about the powers it entailed, the doors it opened, but today was a far different day then back then. Rave Merrill, though a valued acquaintance of Valik's, had gone quite a bit off the deep end. While still an alchemist of no small renown, nor clinically insane or mentally ill, for some particular reason she had decided to mass-market her creations. Nowadays literally anybody with the money could go up to a store, purchase a coat make of the leather of a Terentatek, and walk around nearly immune to the effects of the Force. Sure, it was a pricey thing, but nobody seemed to regulate the amount of money people had anymore. Anybody who was anybody seemed to have the money to buy at least something, and while the Terentattek leather was the most notable piece of inventory it wasn't the only thing that caused Valik and other Force User's pause.

After a raid on the Jedi Temple with an old Whiphid and intriguing sorceress he managed to obtain the recipe for an old Jedi Shadow gadget. Nullification Resin it was called. An interesting substance that, when a dark side artifact was immersed in it, deactivated it's properties completely. Truth be told Valik was terrified that such a thing could exist, but as he experimented with it more and more he found the whole process to be extremely limiting. The resin only worked if the artifact was submerged in it, meaning application during combat was entirely unfeasable, save for throwing your opponent into a vat full of it, and if you could pull that off you didn't need the Resin in the first place. It was unsurprising that the Jedi had come up with such a temporary solution in so many years, never making progress towards a new one. With no ambition for power they were doomed to never attain their full potential.

In any case, with Nullification Resin a no-go for disabling the leather terrors that pranced around the galaxy Valik was forced to devise an alternate solution. He'd need to find some more alchemical items. Specifically ones he didn't take part in their creation.

Valik

No matter where Valik went he always kept on item on his person that wasn't created by himself. The Contempt, a near-invincible sith armor created by Ashin Varanin in times long past. Granted, the heating issues were substantial and electrical conductivity was a daily threat, but nonetheless it was a masterpiece . . . at least for one that wasn't of his or Rave Merrill's skill. Still, it was a work of art, and a long session of dedicated psychometry allowed him to discover how the armor was made. Normally it only took Valik a few seconds to find an item's origins, minutes at worst, but with the Taozin Lacquer fuddling up his perception in the Force getting a lock was difficult, and he often had to quit only to start again as he lost the trail. Silently he wondered if there was a good way to bypass the Taozin amulets and their effects, better track them despite the Force shifting affect. He knew from the auction that the Nightsisters had a technique with which they tacked a man, or object, by putting their blood onto it, sinking it in. He'd have to ask Rave her price for learning the trick.

But now was not the time for musing on other projects. Valik had too many as it was. aside from the Contempt he had also gained knowledge of Kaine's amulet, the paranoia inducing Anandi, and the soul-sucking Daesumnor. Each crafted by different owners, each serving different intended purposes. It was a good mix of products in that instance, and also in the skill level required to make. With all of these differences it was difficult to find similarities, though after taking a datapad and writing down the methods used to construct each in painful detail he put up an algorithm to sort for similarities. While the algorithm ran it's sorting method he sorted them manually, looking for this or that, subtleties the computer wouldn't pick up. Technology was a wonderful thing, but it had it's limits. Valik was thankful his mind didn't. By the time the Algorithm was done with it's notes he was half-done with his, but took a few more minutes to complete his assessment before reading the machines.

Comparing Valik's notes to that of his computers was admittedly a slow process, and Valik didn't really care for speed in this matter. He needed exacting precision to achieve what he wanted, not sloppy work. It took Valik some time to see it, but the patterns were there. Like the galaxy, organic life, inorganic matter, even alchemy had rudimentary building blocks that supported the rest of it's being. If he could only manipulate those building blocks, perhaps he could achieve what was necessary.

Valik took a sword, a simple sword, and held it straight forward. In his other hand he pulled out his lightsaber, igniting it and pulling it down atop of the blade. The blade went downwards, hitting the floor as Valik's wrist turned to allow the movement. With the flick of a thumb the Lightsaber was deactivated, showing a clean, unscathed blade underneath. Sith Alchemy was a beautiful, beautiful thing to behold. Now it was time to see if he could break it. Or rather, break it quickly. Valik knew he could de-alchemize an item with significant effort, but this was about de-activating an item quickly. Methodically. Concentrating on the 'building blocks' of Alchemy he had discovered through many bouts of psychometry and intense research on many alchemical works he changed the properties of the blade. Almost instantly he felt his muscles relieved. Upon raising the sword he found it lighter, easier to swing, and the small dark feeling that permeated it was gone. Taking his lightsaber again he ignited it and swung it through the blade, making a clean slice, bisecting the blade. A loud clang was heard as the upper half of the blade hit the floor as Valik smiled. His idea would work. Now he needed only to streamline it.

With his theory on speeding up de-alchemization proving to be accurate Valik needed to do only one thing, enhance it. He could de-alchemize through touch, but if he was touching a blade while fighting he'd be in a bad spot. Allowing an opponent to touch one's armor in combat was a foolish move as well, and letting another examine an amulet at all was foolish at best. He needed to find a ranged application. While Valik could use alchemy from a range with his skill it was very taxing and impratical in combat, not unlike a Jedi attempting to heal without touching someone. Possible, but not economical. What he needed was a device that did the task for him. There weren't a lot of artifacts that had inherent Force Powers, but the large majority of them were Sith Amulets, something he could make in sleep.

Taking a bit of amber he molded gold around it, before laying ornate carvings on the side of the gold. Not particularly essential to creating an amulet, but an artistic touch, and one to keep many overly analytic studies confused. Random phrases in differing languages with no apparent connections? Would keep anyone trying to find the secrets of how he made it guessing for years. Not that Valik would part with a creation like this before his death, but everyone died eventually. Or perhaps not, but that was another project for another time. With the ultimate figure of the amulet complete Valik took a small knife, and cut from his finger, instilling blood into the gem and it's gold surroundings. Soaking itself into the amulet he imbued within it his greatest strength, Alchemy itself, though it was the gift of creation, but destruction that filled it's gem. After a few hours and instilling of more blood the center amulet began to give off a small glow, physical evidence of the power instilled within.

After bandaging himself without using bandages, a useful application of Art of the Small to literally knit one's self together, Valik took a Sith Alchemized blade and placed it in front of him, balanced upwards by a series of boxes. Taking the amulet of Amber he released a blast from the amulet before taking his lightsaber and slashing forward into it, cutting clean through. A wide grin grew into a devilish smile as he began to cackle. No terentatek leather would ever bother him again.
