  • Bug spray: The missiles contain a load of Anti-Laser Aerosol, upon detonation the missile releases a cloud of the aerosol capable of blocking turbolaser shots.
  • Optimal Pattern: The missiles can be controlled by a battle computer or an AI in order to be positioned and detonated for maximum effect.

  • Double edged sword: The cloud goes both ways, while turbolaser shots can't penetrate it, the defending ship's turbolaser's can't penetrate it, creating an area through which no laser can pass.
  • A temporary fix: Although the cloud can block turbolasers, it is only temporary. The explosion which initially spreads the aerosol into the cloud imparts a motion on the particles that will cause them to disperse rapidly, thinnign the cloud and diluting it's efficiency till it is no longer effective. The entire process of dispersal takes about 20 seconds.
  • Micromissile: The missiles smaller shape requires a specialised launcher and limits their range.
  • Small cloud: Given the size of the missiles, the clouds formed are quite small, making it easy to maneuver around them.

Lasers, particularly turbolasers are perhaps the most common weapon in the galaxy, finding their way onto every ship from the most humble fighter to the largest Super Star Destroyer. As part of they development of defensive technology Locke and Key Mechanics looked to see what they could do to deal with these weapons in a way that would give their own ships and technology an advantage on the battlefield.

It was during their search for these technologies that they stumbled over the Anti-Laser Aerosol, an old technology, but one they could see a myriad of uses for. Loaded into a small missile the aerosol would allow them to create a temporary area through which no laser could pass.

Of course there were limitations to the technology, but as a addition to other defensive technologies, the counter missiles could come as quite an interested surprise.
