Biography
Thraken has no sad backstory. It's pretty simple actually. Dad drank, but, was a brooding drunk. Mother was a Corellian show girl. Family was broken, but, it was sweet - it had its moments. But, from the beginning Thraken was a gangster. Was one of a local Hutt's "wiseguys", when the sap wouldn't pay up, Thraken and his boys would supply "incentive" to pay. But, Thraken was always to smart for that sort of work. Thraken wanted to be a business man.
The time would come. The Hutt he worked for sent him to the Coruscant lower level slums to over see the gambling dens and the loan sharks that swam around them. The scheme was simple. Gamble people into debt, send them to the loan sharks they controlled, extort their cash and send them back into the dens. The cycle feed everyone, including his parents. But, during his stewardship a local loan shark gang tried to cut in on their territory. Thraken, rather than smash them, invited them to cut a deal. The deal of course was winning over their street workers. And by the end, Thraken and absorbed the gang non-violently.
See Thraken is the man of the people. He paid for local housing with the gambling money, did you favours, helped the poor. He was a local hero. So when the heads of the loan shark gang that he absorbed caused a revolt - no one came to help. And later, no one came to their funerals.
But, for Thraken Barbarossa, gambling dens and loan sharks wasn't enough. So with the creation of a dummy private bank to funnel in financial capital Thraken takes his steps to larger fish and perhaps bigger deals. Nevertheless the Corellian Don knows that nothing is more important that family, loyalty and humility. A Crime Lord of the people.
