GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Tradition Name: Path of the Zaantaryym
  • Tradition Type: Monastic Warriors
  • Tradition Focus: Spiritual Knowledge
  • Influence: Interplanetary
  • Orientation: Other: The Zaantaryym are divided into three sects based on the Three Aspects, a religious principle of The Twice-Coiled Path. Those who align with the Proactive Aspect tend to be light-side aligned, those who align with the Reactive Aspect tend to be dark-side aligned, and those who align with the Inactive Aspect tend to be balanced.
  • Influence Area: Former territories of the Bedlariim Empire and a few hidden enclaves on nearby worlds.
  • Symbol: The Zaantaryym have no formal symbol but are heavily associated with serpents and snake imagery.
  • Description: The Zaantaryym are a strange tradition in the sense that they are really three smaller traditions who share a common beginning, common philosophies, religious beliefs, spiritual authority and purpose. Every member, regardless of which Aspect they have aligned with, is first and foremost a spiritual authority in the faith of The Twice-Coiled Path, as the faith belives that those gifted with force sensitivity have larger Proactive Aspects and are thus closer to the All-Maker. Raised from childhood in the priesthood members of the Zaantaryym are well versed in the theologies and philosophies of The Twice-Coiled Path and its survivalist outlook on the universe. They are expected to help others on their spiritual journeys while also delving into the mysteries of the force to divine the will of the All-Maker. Zaantaryym frequently persue other avenues of research that interest them, but their primary duties concern the force as it is believed to be their calling. This freedom in the pursuit of knowledge is ultimately what split the Zaantaryym into three smaller groups as different monasteries developed different specialties and methods.
    • The Wahliid: Are those who most closely follow the teachings of the Zaantaryym's original founder: the ex-jedi master Tyke Tehn'ath and who align with the Proactive Aspect of The Twice-Coiled Path's theology. They are primarily seen as monks and sorcerers who spend most of their lives in a targeted pursuit of knowledge. Their order promotes scholarship, research, self discipline, and self discover through meditation and pilgrimage. They are the most public face of the Zaantaryym are their monasteries are open to the public and serve as schools and hospitals to those in need.
    • The Qataahli: Are those who are the most secretive within the Zaantaryym and who align with the Reactive Aspect within their theology. They are viewed as ferocious warriors who serve selfish purposes often delving into darker passtimes as thieves, assassins, or giving in to decadence. While this is technically correct, the Qataahli do not necessarily do these things for personal gain or enjoyment. Rather the Qataahli believe that all knowledge must be experienced or found and that the All-Maker, the origin of all knowledge, has spread that knowledge throughout the galaxy to be recovered and experienced. So the Qataahli go out to experience all that is available to them. They hone their bodies through mastering the holy martial art of Qabliyya and its many drills and forms specializing in short swords, blasters, and hand-to-hand combat. They then use this art to take what is needed to expand understanding and to bring it back to their secretive monasteries. They further seek to kill those who wish to disrupt the Bedlariim people and by proxy disrupt their purpose to understand the universe. The Qataahli are not all bloodthirsty warriors however and frequently seek to meditate and comprehend the universe through emotion and art. Poetry is perhaps the greatest art the Qabliyya practice but painting, engraving, and other arts are equally cherished. Many Qataahli take up acting and become profound performers who give truely emotional performances as they explore emotion and life through another's eyes.
    • The Jawil: Are those who are the most unknown and who align with the Inactive Aspect within the theology of the Twice-Coiled Path. They are hermits and recluses who travel the galaxy in personal journeys of understanding. Jawil almost always travel alone, the only exception being when a Jawil takes a student under their wing. This tradition of taking students and sharing knowledge has created a strange 'geneology' of knowledge as every Jawil can trace their lineage of masters all the way back to Tyke Tehn'ath himself. It is believed that when one of their number achieves true understanding of the universe, where on lineage finally comprehends all, that they will transcend into a new All-Maker. This belief is considered heretical by many within the Twice-Coiled Path and the Jawil have been hunted down, shamed, or ostricised for most of Bedlariim history.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Membership: Force Sensitive Bedlariim children are expected to be gifted to the priesthood of the Twice-Coiled Path where they will be raised until young adulthood wherein they will be sent to the monastery ran by the Zaantaryym. Those outsiders who wish to join or learn from the Zaantaryym must first be welcomed as a fellow Bedlariim and then renounce their former affiliation with any other organization.
  • Motives: Ultimately the three sects of the Zaantaryym seek to understand the universe and to grow the philosophical, theological, and scientific knowledge of the Bedlariim. They may have drastically different approaches and side objectives but their search for knowledge remains the core tenant.
