"To truly understand the hidden depths of the Force we must make ourselves as conduits of its will, becoming one with our surroundings while preserving the core ideals we hold."
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: A flavourful source of lore to hopefully spice up future thread(s).

GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Holocron Name: The Terron Obelisk
  • Alignment: Light
  • Origin: Little known Jedi sect, the Guide is an abstraction of multiple Masters.
  • Affiliation: Greystone Mercantile, liable to be auctioned off in the immediate future.
  • Gatekeeper: A wizened near-human male with skin like the bark of an ancient tree. Aside from a pair of kind eyes, his face is so unremarkable as to be quickly forgotten by most. Introducing himself simply as "the Guide" he seems dedicated to furthering the personal growth of any students, with their power and mastery of the techniques held within being a secondary concern. The Guide will never tire of answering questions or offering advice, but will sternly chastise students that seek power over wisdom.
  • Description: The Obelisk is a weathered piece of roughly-carved stone some two-point-seven metres tall, engraved with esoteric runes and imbued with properties comparable to a holocron. When in use it will glow softly and generate a visual manifestation of the Guide, a gatekeeper constructed from the amalgamated teachings and personalities of the Masters of a little-known Jedi sect. Its original location is unknown.
DEFENSES
  • Accessibility: The Obelisk may be accessed by meditating before it, at which point the Guide will show himself to the user and the user alone. Anyone nearby will see the weathered runes on the side glow a pale blue, however; multiple people can make use of the Obelisk at once, but only one instance of the Guide can exist at any given time - he will simply appear to all relevant parties. The Guide will appear even to those who have fallen to the Dark or otherwise strayed from the Light and will freely share advice and engage in philosophical discussion, though teachings that could be used to do harm will be withheld from those likely to use them selfishly or irresponsibly.
  • Security: The Guide will sternly rebuke any who wish to use its teachings for personal gain, but that's about it. In extreme circumstances, the Obelisk itself may carry heat or electricity to dissuade an aggressor, but it seems unable or unwilling to ever make use of lethal force.
CONTENT INFORMATION
The Obelisk contains the complete teachings of a long-forgotten Jedi sect; its philosophy is familiar, for the most part, but greater emphasis is placed on oneness with the Force and one's surroundings, at the expense of, e.g., militarised aspects or loyalty to the various Republics. Furthermore, killing in general and with the Force specifically is heavily discouraged, "To take a life using this most sacred connection is to sully one's very spirit."

The Guide encourages unity, humility, and living in tune with nature and the will of the Force. Materialism is staunchly rebuked, as is the desire to live forever, for "Death is not an ending to be feared, but the beginning of something new and wonderful."

With the guidance of the Guide and the knowledge contained within the Obelisk, students can learn or further hone their skill at Alter Environment, Precognition (with an emphasis on opening oneself up to visions, though many will never receive one), Force Stealth, and Force Empathy. The latter can be honed to influence animals (preferably in mutually beneficial ways) or further influence/attune oneself to nature.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Long ago, before the Gulag Plague, the Galactic Civil War, and the great Jedi purge that followed the Clone Wars, a small group of Jedi split off from the greater Order. This was not the first such divergence nor would it be the last. Some left, most stayed, and those who left eventually died out.

While theirs was never an ideology aspiring to proselytize to the masses, they were not eager to see their knowledge lost - thus the Terron Obelisk.

It is unknown where the Obelisk originally stood or who first removed it from its place, though rogue archaeologists are suspected. What is known is that it made its way through various collections in the years preceding the Gulag Plague, was lost for several centuries, and eventually found itself in the hands of Greystone Mercantile, with the Shadows quickly recognising its value.

After an amicable discussion with the Guide, some information changed hands and the decision not to sell it to the Sith was made.
