The Talk

Jaxton Ravos

Mindwalker of the Outer Rim
Jaxton had been sitting in his room for the past hour contemplating exactly how he was going to have this discussion. Kida was beginning to get up there in age, and though Jaxton did like that Thurion kid he still felt he needed to establish some boundaries, if only for his peace of mind. Still, this wasn’t a conversation he had ever received, nor was it one he had ever given. Cycling ideas in and out of his mind he finally realized he’d never be completely ready for what lie ahead. He’d never been ready for the future as a Jedi, to start a Conclave, or help protect a Sanctum, but uncertainty hadn’t stopped him before. Thus he decided, it would be done at dinner tonight.

Jaxton had never been the best of cooks, but in his time with [member="Kida Ravos"] he had made the effort to get better. She had only been able to eat meat when he first found her due to the whole “I thought I was a cat” thing, so he had tried to make the transition in learning to eat fruits and vegetables a little easier for her. Still, meat was probably always going to be her favorite food. Nothing wrong with that in truth, and it was kind of nice to have a daughter that didn’t worry about eating too much meat. He knew she outmuscled some of her friends, and she was comfortable with that far as he could tell, which was reassuring.

So he went all out and fired up the grill for some nerf steaks and corn. The scent of burning spices, vegetables and smoke would permeate from the outside into the house, something she’d probably pick up on. She prone to running around as a cat nearly as much as she used to be, but he had reasoned that her sense of smell had enhanced due to prolonged exposure. Or perhaps she just really did have a love for his cooking.

In any case soon the spots on the table were prepared and the food handed out. Alrighty Jaxton, start this smooth.

“So, how have you been Kida?” He asked as he realized that all of his little plans and formulations were gone. This was actually happening. He still wasn’t sure how he was gonna get there, but by gosh he wasn’t gonna live another day in suspense.

Kida was fourteen years old and a little wild. It was shortly after Thurion had left their presence to explore the Galaxy and she had been feeling somewhat hard done to and alone, as any little girl would in such a situation. Aside from her Father, Thurion was the only constant in her life, and losing him to the throws of worlds vast leagues away had taken its toll. I wonder where he is right now she would often ponder, sat within her room or by a stream. Since his departure she had also spent an alarming amount of time posing as a fully-grown Daux cat, far too large and unruly compared to how she had once been.

Something caught her sensitive senses and pulled her from her spot beside the window. She had been attempting to read over a datapad - albeit with much difficulty, although she had come a long way since Jaxton first began trying to teach her how to speak and write - but now that didn't seem to matter to her at all. The aroma was tantalizing and she knew that her Papa had been cooking. Meat, too. Her favourite! She rushed down the stairs and out into the yard where Jaxton was waiting. "Mm, Papa, meat!" She beamed a huge grin in his direction and rushed to the seat at his side. Even now, even at fourteen years of age, she enjoyed being close to Jaxton when they were together, still fascinated by his hair and his skin... And of course his beard!

She tucked into the meat, at first a little uncivilised as she simply stabbed down her knife to skewer it before remembering what she had been taught and likewise lifting the fork with a small huff of dislike. She was used to just tearing into her food, especially meat! She turned her gaze across to him when he spoke, thoughtfully trying to formulate the words in her mind. She had been a late and slow learner, and thus still struggled a little where talking was concerned. "I've been... Well, taa-... T-Thanks" she said, trying not to fall back on old 'taa-oo' habits. Brushing the vegetables to one side, away from her lovely meat, she tore a healthy chunk of meat off and brought it into her mouth. "How are you, Papa?"
