The Sun Rises

Location: Barafka, Eldu lava fields
Objective: Survive training

All around numerous Versi'Ra from the Ki'ran clan circled pushing against each other as they watched the combatants inside the circle. Sun was one of the combatants that stood in the dead center of the circle while four other Versi'Ra moved in a circle around him like they were predators. Sun's yellow eyes tracked each Versi'Ra that where only a few years his junior, but had each challenged him to a fight. Though to save time he had them all fight him at once. Sun's white hair stood straight up naturally not even flattening with all the heat that flowed from the nearby steam vents. His muscular body was covered in sweat as he had just finished his first round with the younger Versi'Ra. They were just lining up to take a shot at Sun due to him getting the attention of the whole tribe. Even if it was for something he didn't want to specialize in. He had always wanted to be like his mother instead. Learning to use Man'a and controlling the elements yet it seemed he was exiled to this fate.

The second round began with one of the Versi'Ra flying in with a kick. Young and brash he was the first to meet his fate. Reaching out and grabbing the leg Sun spun holding onto it and released him at a time where he impacted one of his allies that had tried to sneak up on Sun. The two went flying away in a mass of limbs before hitting the cold ground sending dirt into the air. The third and fourth worked together one going low while the other was atop. They started off with the fourth flipping over the third and kicking at Sun which he blocked by crossing his arms into a X and pushing him away while the third did a sweep that Sun jumped over and jumped over the kick though this left him open for the fourth's second hit which was a open palmed strike to his center.

The impact from the strike was enough to send Sun flipping backwards a few feet where he landed his feet skidding for a bit before he used the momentum in a backflip that helped him dodge a downwards kick by the second. Yet the one who had engaged first cooperated and used the Second's leg as a stool and jumped at Sun in a spinning kick. This time the kick landed, Sun's head yanked back as his jaw took the brunt of the blow. Carrying his weight with the force from the kick Sun cartwheeled away from the Versi'Ra landing a few feet away from them. A fresh stream of blood flowed from his now busted lip which he promptly wiped away onto his brown skin. His eyes grew wild but not with anger but excitement. It had been months since someone had made him bleed while fighting. Feeling the adrenaline pump his body Sun leaped forward flipping into the group of Versi'Ra this time on the offensive. His hands lashed out in two open palmed strikes that hit the first and second Versi'Ra in their centers. The sounds of bones cracking and popping could be heard as the attacks landed with extreme force. One of his legs also lifted off the ground kicking the third in his gut and lifting him off his feet. The final one had been smart enough to get outside Sun's reach. His three comerade's laid around him all groaning and holding their stomachs trying to cope with the pain that Sun had brought down upon them. "Come show me what you're made of." Sun said in Vraw to the youngling who in turn drew two tonfa and took his personalized stance. "Enough!" Came the shout of the tribes shaman as she pushed her way through the onlookers and made her way into the circle. Her long golden curls flew behind her as she rushed to the downed Versi'Ra. This women was Sun's mother Zuma her hands waved over the bodies of the injured as she used Man'a(The Force) to heal their injuries a bit.

"Ok people come grab these three and remove them from the ring. They are to injured to continue." Zuma proclaimed. Versi'Ra rushed in quickly following her orders and carrying the injured ones away while she walked to Sun and placed a hand on his cheek her blue eyes staring into his. "Becoming more and more like your father, and just as reckless. Now do what you do best." She said patting him a few times on the cheek and walking back into the circle of onlookers. Sun stood still for a few seconds waiting for his mom merged back into the crowd, he knew she was still watching. Taking up his stance with one arm aimed at the ground and the other crossed over his brow Sun awaited the last Versi'Ra to attack. After a few seconds and realizing Sun wasn't going to make the first move the man rushed both his tonfa in hand. He swung both arms outward as though he was slashing which Sun simply dodged by flipping over him but he wasn't expecting the kick the Versi'Ra sent in his direction which threw his flip off and made him land in a crouch. Bringing both hands up he grabbed the tonfa as they were coming down to hit him. The Versi'Ra tried to pull back but Sun was still his elder and stronger. Rolling backwards Sun released his legs in a kick straight at the Versi'Ra's chest and released his weapons at the same time allowing the boy to go flying to the very edge of the circle where he lay coughing. Pushing himself to his feet with his tail Sun knocked the dirt off his body. "A bit more practice and you'll be able to surpass me. I can't wait for that day." Sun said turning away and walking out of the circle where the surrounding Versi'Ra congratulated him and patted his back saying they knew he would win.

As he exited the circle Sun found himself being grabbed from the side and yanked into the powerful arms of his father who hugged him with strength close to that of a wookies. "Now thats my son! You show them what it means to be the son of the chieftan and grandson of the Great Chieftan! Come let us celebrate! We have plenty of meat cooking as we speak! Tonight will be a celebration!" Sun's father said shaking the boy in his arms while leading him away from the others of the tribe. "I tell you, you're made for great things! I can't wait for you to take my spot as chieftain! I expect nothing less." He said but before he could say more he was cut off by Zuma clearing her throat.

"Am I to assume you plan on hogging our son? Look at him! he needs to be treated! He's bleeding." She said grabbing Sun's arm and stopping him in his tracks. His mom wasn't as strong as his father but she was a much worse threat. She was the shaman of the village, somone who specialized in using Man'a to control all of the elements. Sun's father only knew how to control fire but Sun had witnessed his mother use all four to devestating effect even to the point of where she could control some of the lava that flowed across through the fields or sat in craters.

Following his mother as she pulled him away from his father and instead lead him to her shaman tent that was set up for her to treat wounded or consult with who she chose. In the distance the sound of a volcano erupting could be heard but it was a common thing on Barafka, it was a planet littered with volcano's and the places where there weren't any it was dangerous to even go due to the harsh environment. Entering the tent Sun sat down on the fur rug that covered the ground as his mother place her hands on his face turning his head to and fro as she examined the busted lip he had gotten during his fight. "Whether you want to admit it or not, you're a natural. Your grandfather would be proud to have seen you take on four at once. It's something that hasn't been seen since he was younger.

"You know I don't want anything to truly do with that. I want to be like you and control Man'a just lookat what you can do! None of the others will cross you because they fear what you can do." Sun exploded to his mother like he had done for many years, and he knew what was coming next. He braced himself as she dealt him a slap to his cheek leaving it stinging and turning his brown skin lightly red.

"Fear is not something to be happy about! It's always been like that for me since I first began my training like my mother. People never got to close to me because of that fear and it hung true till I met your father. He was so confident in himself he had the nerve to court me. So don't speak of others fearing you, it will only lead to ruin. Plus you know I can't teach you those type of techniques till you become a chieftan. The temptation and the effect they could have on others are to extreme for those that haven't proven themselves." Zuma said as her hands hovered in the air infront of Sun's face and he felt his lip begin to hesal. The tissue stitching itself back together in seconds as though nothing had happened. "Much better, now lets go enjoy your party." Zuma said smiling yet it didn't touch those blue eyes.

Exiting the tent the duo found themselves greeted by numerous young Versi'Ra that reached out dragging Sun into the group that was filled with children that had just started to dive into their training. They looked up to Sun as a idol of what they wanted to be. They clung to his legs pulling him along bombarding him with questions about how he had gotten so strong and if they would be able to beat him one day. TO be honest he did somewhat enjoy the attention the kids where giving him but he couldn't bring himself to tell them to devote themselves to nothing but training. So kneeling down he placed his hand on the nearest ones head. "Do not spend all your time on this planet. Training is important and will no doubt come in handy one day, but don't settle for only that. I sure don't I will also leave this planet one day. I hope we all can and expand our race across the galaxy."

"Look at those grand ambitions my boy has. Already thinking of expanding our numbers and power across the galaxy. Sounds like a head chieftain already right?!" Sun's father said appearing almost out of thin air as he patted his son on the shoulder.

"I didn't me-"

"Come let us enjoy the celebration your grandfather couldn't make it though, its off with negotiations with some of the other tribes trying to bring them back to the old ways instead of being absorbed by those human's technologies." Sun's father said as he led his son onto a makeshift pedestal that stood over a pit of lava which till this day still made Sun uneasy. "To my son! The next chieftain of the Ki'wan tribe! May he bring us wealth and power!" Sun's father said as he snatched up a chalice that was filled to the brim with blood from the prey they had hunted that evening.

Sun never got used to this ritual as the blood always had a metallic taste, but it seemed to be a delicacy to all the older Versi'Ra that were approaching their prime. So raising the chalice Sun yelled into the air. "For The Ki'Wan!" Then he placed the chalice to his lips and began to drink down the red liquid it staining his lips and flowing down his neck as some of it missed his lips. Cheers exploded from the other Versi'Ra as they each raised their own chalices and began to drink. The celebrations then began as Sun and his father began to walk off the podium but were stopped by a unfamiliar sound and in the distance they could see a human dropship flying at them.

"Not now. Come son, we must greet the human's" Sun's father said his bright and cheerful mood vanishing and replaced by a grim expression.

The human's had landed right outside the village and stood waiting for the Versi'ra to arrive. There were ten human's total with two on the outside wearing a heavy armor with the visors shaped into T's. There were four other humans that were dressed in what seemed to be lighter armors each carrying weapons. Three wore nothing but coats to protect themselves from the harsh weather, and then the last on wore this weird armor that was loaded with huge weapons. He was the largest out of the group and the most well armed. While the Versi'ra only had three for their numbers which included Sun's father, Zuma and Sun. It was usually only the chieftan and the shaman's job to converse with human's but since he was a child Sun had come into contact with them plenty and was one of the few in the tribe who understood their language the only others being his mother and grandfather. "What is your business here human's?" Zuma asked almost saying the last word as though it were a horrible food or stench.

"We have come with our final offer to take your village into one of our cities. We can pay you, give you all a education beyond what you'll ever learn here. All that's needed is that you join our military and do a few jobs for us. You are some of the best warriors we've ever seen. So far we've gotten two other tribes on board." One of the human's said taking a few steps forward separating him from the rest of his group.

Zuma turned translating it to Sun's father who's eyes bulged at what the humans were saying. "You think we don't know how you treat your citizens?! How do we know we wouldn't end up as second class compared to them!? Your government is built upon greed and will never amount to much. The Ki'wan will never join you!" Sun's father said one hand clenching while the other pointed accusingly at the humans.

"Well then maybe we'll have a better chance with your successor." The man said backing away as the one's he brought with him began to shoulder their rifles. "Kill th-" He couldn't get much farther in the sentence as a knife appeared in his throat. Sun's father had threw it straight and true hitting the human in the juggular. He fell to the ground blood pooling beneath him as his comerades stood staring in shock at his body which gave the three Versi'ra the time they needed to go on the offensive.

Sun and his father split one running in each direction but his father charged the site with the man in the powersuit. Zuma on the other hand stood back her arms waving in the air hypnotically before she cast a hand forward a huge gust of air and snow flew at the human's pushing them back and distracting them. Engaing the man in the heavy armor with the T visor first Sun jumped and rose his feet planting both into the mans face using his weight to force the man to the ground which he'd then deal a Man'a empowered stomp to the man's helmet to disorient him. Though the other humans raised their weapons in a attempt to shoot him but Sun leaped into the air doing multiple flips over them and landed at the end of the row where he let his tail wrap around the throat of one of the human's who had forgone armor. He tried to pul the tail away but it was to strong. Using the body as a shield Sun blocked oncoming blaster bolts before flipping backwards and landing upon the shoulders of one of the ones in light armor before quickly kicking off his head allowing his allies to shoot their ally in the head. Landing behind the man with the T visor who had just rose Sun used his extreme strength to grab the man by his helmet from over his shoulder and yank flipping the man the sound of a loud crack could be heard midway though. The body fell to the ground completely still.

The final two from the group he was fighting turned their weapons on Sun but were to late as a large lightning bolt struck both sending them flying into the wall of their dropship their bodies smoking. By the time Sun turned his attention to his father he saw that his father had killed everyone except the man in the powersuit. The sound of multiple blaster rounds could be heard as the man fired his heavy repeater trying to hit Sun's father but he was to fast dodging shots with flips and cartwheels that threw the man off. Then finally as Sun's father landed the ground beneath him exploded from a grenade the man had launched. Sun's father flew threw the air hitting the ground with a loud thump sending dirt into the air his body burned and severely scarred. "NO!" Sun and Zuma screamed in unison but Sun was on the scene beginning his charge at the man in the powersuit.

A grenade shot at the speeding Sun but a wall of thick stone rose up infront of him protecting him. The resulting explosion destroyed the wall sending a cloud of dust and rubble everywhere that Sun exploded out of screeching at the top of his lungs. Fear flooded the final human's eyes as he saw Sun rushing him his mouth open saliva rolling down his chin and the sharp teeth of a predator stained with fresh blood. He activated the heavy repeater but by the time it warmed up and began firing Sun had jumped into the air flying over the shots and landed upon the man. Both their weights collided which sent the man in the heavy armor to the ground but Sun rolled to his feet and jumped upon the man and his armor. He tried to fire the repeater once again but Sun rose his leg and kicked the weapon off track where it sprayed wildly into the sky. "Die!" Sun screamed raising his arms high over his head and bringing them down on top of the man's head. The first hit killed the man on contact blood and brain matter splattering onto Sun yet he didn't care as his fists hammered into the man's face pummeling it till it was flat.

Blood clung to Sun's body as he turned leaving the dead humans behind. He rushed to his fathers body that shivered within the throes of death. Zuma kneeled letting Sun's father rest on her lap. She shook her head to Sun as he approached telling him his father wouldn't survive. FAlling to his knees before his father Sun clung onto the man's hand squeezing it. Till he felt his fathers other begin to rustle his hair. "Told you, you were destined to become chieftan! Those blasted humans." Sun's father said as he went into a coughing fit blood flying out and sprinkling across Sun's face.

"Save your strength father. We may still be able to find something on the human's ship to help you."

"No son, don't waste your time. I can hear our ancestors calling to me. The Man'a is offering me salvation and I dare not keep it waiting. Bring our tribe prosperity! Spread our influence!" Sun's father said as he pulled his son into one final hug before letting go. "Goodbye Zuma, I'll wait for you on the other side." Sun's father said a smile on his face as he fell backwards but before he hit Zuma's lap his body dissapeared leaving nothing but his clothes behind. Tears flowed freely down both the Versi'ra's cheeks as they grieved for their loss.

Standing upon the pedestal for the second time that night Sun was there to deliver the news of his fathers death with his mother at his side who clung onto his arm crying herself tears rolling down her cheeks. She tried to use her golden locks to hide them but Sun knew because he to was crying. IT was as though the whole village already knew as children cried in their parents arms and even some adults. "Today we lost the one person who meant everything to this tribe. He was the heart, the lungs, and the spirit that drove us through the darkest of times. He treated us all as his children, we are his legacy. One we must not let be tarnished by these humans! They live with greed feeding off the working class of their people while the rich sit back and laugh drinking their beverages. We are lower then the workers to them! We are nothing but animals! Though we shall prove them wrong. I swear as temporary leader of this tribe I will expand our race and make us more powerful then ever. No matter the cost!" Sun said giving his speech which was granted a roar of applause from the other VErsi'Ra along with cheers even though most were still broken up over their chieftans death.

Stepping forward Zuma performed the final rights for Sun's fathers funeral. "As a Versi'Ra he was a loving father and a even more loving husband, I will forever miss him, though now he resides in a better place guiding us. Watching over each and everyone of you. Make him proud." Zuma said through the tears as she held up the final clothes he had been wearing and lighting it on fire with her control of Man'a and droping them but before they could reach the lava they had burned to nothing but ashes. "Rest in peace Sunan Ki'wan"
