Public The Shadow Tiara Heist

Meera let out a sigh as her Frozen Hunk touched down on Cantonica. She had decided to land outside of Canto Bight as the docking fee was exorbitant from what she remembered from her previous visits. If she didn't want to spend half her pay from her last job, this was the best option. She looked towards her droid, T3-R7, and smiled.

"You ready for this, buddy?"

R7 beeped an enthusiastic confirmation before going to open the airlock. The smuggler had read the briefing packet while in hyperspace. Wealthy marks, anonymous employer, fancy crystals, nothing new really. She had recognized one of the people joining her team for this heist. Faison Kelborn, a Mandalorian she had worked with before. He was okay as far as teammates went. Professional and a no-nonsense kind of guy. She thought he was a weird choice for a discreet mission like this one. But she had had worse teams before, she could make it work.

Meera grabbed her blaster, credits and tools. The way she saw it, there were several ways to go around stealing the Tiara. They could go undercover, set up an elaborate plan with multiple misdirections to steal the prize right under everybody's noses. Or maybe just infiltrate the vault the jewel would be locked in while Mrs. Zhigwol wasn't wearing it. Or maybe they could just win it at cards. Ha! As if her gazillionaire husband had nothing else to bet but his wife's jewellery. So yeah, that last one was a long shot.

She made her way to the city on foot as R7 stayed on the ship. Soon enough she had reached the cantina where she was supposed to rendez-vous with the rest of her team in one of the seedier parts of the city. Which wasn't saying much as seedy on Canto Bight is still quite fancy and expensive. But at least it wouldn't cost her an arm and a leg just for one drink.

Her gaze swept accross the crowded room, taking in anything that might seem outside of the ordinary. It seemed like she was the first one here out of her team. She picked a table in the back of the cantina, next to the jukebox where their planning would hopefully be covered up by the loud music. She ordered a glass of Juma Juice (no way was she going to drink right before a big job, she needed her wits about her) and reviewed once again the plans to the Casino where the marks were staying.

Canto Bight. Faison couldn't say he'd ever been on this planet. He never had any reason to. To the best of his knowledge, there was no battle in which to fight that had taken place here, nor had he ever had enough money to visit for dinner, much less to gamble. He was certain that he'd stick out like a sore thumb alright, given the varying degrees of repair his armor was in. He had thought about perhaps not wearing his armor, but to do such a thing was not to be decided upon lightly. He resolved to wear it, and should he get any stray looks, it was nothing an awkward stare from behind his visor couldn't fix. If questioned, he could always say he was here on Guild business. While not impossible, and while it may not prevent prying eyes from ogling, it at least could explain his presence. But then, if his presence was known and associated with the crime he was here to commit, then he would have implicated the Guild in his business.

That would suck.

He'd think of something should the need arise. At least he wouldn't be caught completely unawares. He entered the cantina that would serve as the rally point for those involved in this... mission, if one wanted to call it that. He scanned the room, catching sight of the one person he knew in this group, who as of now appeared to be the only person clearly involved in this plot. He stepped over to her table in no particular hurry, giving her a slight nod as he situated himself within a chair opposite of her. He kept his helmet on - better that his face not be visible right now. Come to think of it... he could always steal a set while he was here. As long as he covered his face, at least he wouldn't be dead on arrival should someone see his armor again. Maybe... he thought to himself. "Didn't think I would see you again so soon." He said in a low tone. He didn't have anything negative to really frame his opinion on Meera. She was good enough at her job, so that placed her immediately near the top half of everyone else in the galaxy from Faison's opinion. Come to think of it, they never really had much of an opportunity to exchange words, either. This would be interesting.

There had been whispers of a heist going on at Canto Bight, though that in of itself was not usual. Eira, herself, had been hired several times to seduce and distract several rich diplomats in order for heists to go on. What caught her eye about this one was the prize, a beautiful tiara, someone had wanted it to organise a heist like this. With a smirk as she looked at the members of this group, Eira herself wanted this tiara and was assessing whether or not she could convince this group to just let her take it for herself. So many often fell for her charms and allowed her to get away with what she wanted. It didn't mean that she was always successful, a few people called her out and told her to stop using her Zeltron traits to manipulate them though Eira repeatedly stated that she wasn't Zeltron as far as she knew.

Heading on the mission, Eira adjusted her dress it was short with a deep cleavage but she liked the style and it suited the Canto Bight casino style so she could blend in and work from within, not standing out with thick, heavy armour or rough looking clothing that would stand out in the rich elites that spend their time at Canto Bight. Her long, sharp stilettos clicked making her presence known well before the Twi'lek arrived at the meeting point. She smiled to the group, three people, she was sure they all had their own set of skills and Eira was curious to see them in action. Especially if she deemed them to be useful enough to keep in mind if she was ever going to do her own mission.

Though most of her missions were for the Sith.

Eira placed her hands on her hips and gave a friendly wink to everyone. "Well, hello there. I'm Eira, and here to help liberate a beautiful piece of jewellery." A casual smirk played on her lips as she talked.

Canto Bight was a city Glar Ulchtar had been to many times. His father, Jej Ulchtar, was the current leader of the infamous Pyke Syndicate, and was the owner of one of the many, many casinos in the city. This one in particular was filled to the brim with all sorts of gambling of questionable legality and of course some things that were downright illegal in the backrooms with the owners being a crime ring. Glar wasn’t part of the Syndicate these days, as he had been forced to flee after a failed attempt to overthrow his father and take over the Syndicate. Since then, he had joined a faction of independent mercenaries and had been lying low. But today, he was going to get a bit of revenge. He had decided to help participate in a heist that would bring the Syndicate down a peg or two, by robbing one of the guests of a rather expensive tiara. His plan was that if the heist was a success, the casino would gain a reputation of having bad security and service and Jej Ulchtar’s name would become discredited along with it. Of course, the problem was he couldn’t show his face there, as he would be recognized almost immediately. That was why he had decided he would be best as a getaway pilot, and an information source. He had brought several specialized miniature cameras with him so that he could see and hear whatever the people carrying out the theft saw. He had considered also putting miniature electrocution devices inside the cameras, in case one of the heist members became “inconvenient” to the mission, but had decided not to, as a person randomly dropping dead would raise to many questions. He was thinking about all of this as he flew his ship, The Sharpsword (a heavily modified and modernized LAAT/i gunship), into the pre-arranged meetup spot, walked inside, and sat down with the others. He had told them all a slightly altered version of the truth about who he was before then, in his story he was Vavif Tolsite, a former manager at the casino, who had learned something he shouldn’t have and defected. As he sat down, he asked: “So is anyone else coming, or is this everyone? If it is everyone, let’s start talking strategy.”

Meera was enjoying her juice while people-watching. The secret of a job well done was to look like you weren't doing anything suspicious. Sounds simple but many people failed. A tremor in their hands, a bead of sweat trailing down their temple, shifty eyes, fingers creasing over their hidden weapon in their jacket. That's how they were caught. Cryost, her mentor, had taught her how to get rid of those mannerisms. She knew how to look perfectly inconspicuous while on jobs.

Soon enough, her first partner-in-crime arrived, Faison Kelborn. She smiled at him as he came over.

"Kelborn," she greeted, "Happy to have you join me on this job."

She gestured at the waiter for more drinks. She ordered enough for the others as well as she could see them coming in one by one. She recognized them from her briefing packet. Eric Vales, Eira Dwynwen and Vavif Tolsite. They were all here now, each with their own specialties. Hopefully there'd be no trouble on this job, with its execution, or the team...

"We can start." She saw no need for an introduction as they had all received the same datapackets as her.

She started explaining the options they had which she had thought of. They could infiltrate the casino in fancy getup, get Mrs. Zhigwol to let down her guard then exchange her tiara with a fake one Meera had had made by a forger. Maybe in a intimate setting like a bathroom where there would be less witnesses to the crime. They'd have to poison her food or drinks, nothing lethal, just enough so she'd be sick and not notice the sleight of hand.

Or they could wait for a time where she wasn't wearing the tiara. From the schedule included in the briefing, the Zhigwols had planned on going fathier-riding tomorrow afternoon. Surely Mrs. Zhigwol would leave her tiara in the Hotel's safe then. They could dress up as employees, access the safe room, crack the lock and be out before the Duros came back.

Neither of the plans were perfect or easy. Both had their flaws but if Meera's team was professional enough, they could improvise and pull it off. Now it was just a matter of trusting each other enough for this to work. That was the most difficult part.

As Eric was explaining his skill set and preferences, “Vavif Tolsite” considered the possibilities and finally said: “From my experience there, both options wouldn’t exactly be easy, but the first one seems to be easier. The current manager keeps a close eye on the list of employees and if he saw us, he would know we were fakes almost instantly. So we would have to remove him from the equation somehow for that option to work. Of course, with the first option, there are complexities too, For example, what if Mr. Zhigwol catches on that something is amiss? Either way, there are plenty of complexities.”

And so the team was assembled. It wouldn't take an expert, nor a lot of time to discern what everyone's role was here. Most of those gathered appeared to be the type you'd expect on a job like this: shady scoundrels, the lot of them. Faison was the one who stood out, and he wasn't so certain that was a good thing. He sighed behind his helmet, wondering what he had gotten himself in to. At least he knew what his job would be - to save their hides if this job went south. He turned to Meera and asked: "Where do you want me? I'm not opposed to sneaking around... it's just not my forte in this particular setting. Not enough mud." He smirked - a gesture that would go unnoticed considering he had his helmet on.

It was just then that a thought popped into his head. He turned to the former 'manager' of the Casino, and asked:
"You know, I could probably disguise myself as a guard for the place. Any idea where their armory is?" He then addressed the group, as if to explain his question: "The way I see it, I'm probably best utilized in case things get hairy in there. If I can look as it it's normal to carry my kit of weapons, then it will make my job that much easier. It would also help if we had a map." Before they got too far into the weeds about what the plan was, they needed to plan their escape. If they couldn't do that, they were wasting their time.[/COLOR]

OOC: I got this map off of a real world casino’s website. Couldn’t do anything about real world businesses, so I decided to make them code names in-universe.
IC: After listening to the Mandalorian’s questions, “Vavif Tolsite“ responded “Actually, I do have a map of the first floor.” He pulled a tiny holoprojector out of his pocket and set it down on the table. It projected a basic map of the first floor of the casino on the table that looked like the image at the top of this post. “Some of the rooms the Syndicate would rather keep hidden from the guests are marked with code names on the map. For example, “Starbucks” is actually the Armory to answer your question. The large brown area in the top right is where most of the Syndicate’s illegal activities happen.” he continued.
