First Reply The Rules of the Unknown

The downpour was steady and sent howling echoes through the alleyways and streets of the neon-lit world of Nar Shaddaa. In her original time, Sol rarely visited the infamous ‘Vertical City.’ Despite the reputation the planet had has maintained, the assassin rarely conducted business on or with anyone on-world. So it was easy for one to wonder why she might’ve found herself here on this cold rainy night.

In fact she hadn’t planned on stopping here. Her starship, an old stealth cruiser she took to naming simply ‘the Revenge,’ was in need of minor repairs. It had suffered some damage while she escaped custody on Naboo, a world she did visit often in her time.

Instead the inconvenience forced her hand and she now found herself wandering the city while the Revenge underwent its necessary reconstruction. But she was a being fueled by knowledge. She saw the opportunity to learn more of this new time she had found herself in.

As such it wasn’t long before she wandered into one of the dozens of bars the city provided. Bars, restaurants, and the social centers of kinds provided Sol with vital information often overlooked by even the most skilled of criminal mastermind: chit chat.

While mostly meaningless, often times the mindless chatter of strangers in the galaxy could provide one with so much. Potential allies, potential jobs, or, for Sol, potential targets. In this particular case it was simply information.

When she went to sleep the galaxy was a vastly different place. The structure was the same: Jedi and Sith at war, another Mandalorian empire seeking domination, but the players themselves were all brand new. Not only that, but the galaxy seemed to have only gotten worse.

Somehow it seemed chaos fuels the galaxy now more than ever. Sol couldn’t wait to revel in it. First, however, information. She needed to know who was at whose throat, who was winning, and the other potentials both seen and unseen.

And so she sat silently in her booth, her synthetic eyes lazily scanning the relatively packed establishment. Music played just loud enough to cover the sound of the rain outside, with the crowd being only slightly louder than them. She drank only in sips and her eyes rarely blinked.

Despite the intensity of her gaze, the rest of her body and muscles were relaxed. She was an enigma, even amongst the variety of denizens spread around the bar.

She was offering herself as bait for conversation, intentionally sitting at an empty booth. All she needed now was the right man or woman to strike up a conversation with.

CAPTAIN RONHAR TANE, TK-3301
NAR SHADDAA, VERTICAL CITY
OBJECTIVE I: FIND THE OWNER

The tip off had come to Ronhar quite quickly.

He had his informants just about everywhere, and anytime they came across something interesting, he was notified about it almost immediately. An X-70B, a rather rare and highly unusual starship, just currently sitting somewhere on Nar Shaddaa undergoing repairs as if it were as common a ship as a CR90 Corvette. Naturally, Ronhar's first inclination was to seize the vehicle for the Imperial Remnant, but anyone able to procure such a starship was someone that the Imperial Remnant would undoubtedly be rather interested in locating.

So Ronhar and his troopers dutifully made their way to Nar Shadda, to find out who exactly was in possession of such a ship and too see if there were a way that the Imperial Remnant might be able to acquire it. They had spent much of the day searching the city, looking for clues as to the vessel's mysterious owner. Eventually, Ronhar and crew found themselves outside the Rusted Bay, where the owner of the X-70B was allegedly staying. Ronhar stood out enough just by himself, and so he ordered his men to stay outside but prepare themselves to enter the establishment at the first sign of trouble.

Though risky, Ronhar entered the building alone.

As he scanned the area around him, his eyes drifted back and forth amongst the various patrons inhabiting the space. There were all manners of different creatures, human and aliens, droids and organics, and questioning them all would take up far too much of his valuable time.

So Ronhar decided to instead trust his gut.

His gaze traveled across the room once more, until it settled upon a booth occupied by a single person, apparently alone, sipping their drink and enjoying the light music. But the way that they gazed at the crowd, it were almost as if they themselves were scanning for any signs of trouble or interest, something that Ronhar recognized almost immediately.

And so he sauntered over to the booth where Sol Apolla Sol Apolla was sitting and sat down in front of her without asking for permission first.

"You know", Ronhar began as he settled in, "if you want to act inconspicuously, having a stare down with everyone in the room generally isn't the way yo go about doing so. I take it you have an idea of why I'm here?", Ronhar asked as he started sizing up the being in front of him.

Sol smiled wide, almost to an uncomfortable degree, before finally blinking. As she did a small chuckle escaped her lips, playful in nature yet sinister in undertone. “I don’t know, in fact,” she said calmly in her lightly toned voice, “but what I do know is you are the man I’m meant to meet.

The smile faded and she glanced around the bar for another moment before her gaze finally studied the man. A soldier of some kind, perhaps high ranking giving his confidence? Armed well, ready for a fight whenever and wherever. Certainly the individual who likely knew the what’s of the galaxy currently. The kind of man Sol would love to mentally pick apart.

I certainly am looking for attention, but what kind attention have I caught?” She was being playful with her word choice and her tone reflected it. Though, like the twisted smile that began the conversation, it was clear there was something off about it all.

Despite the oddity of her nature, Sol continued with the corner of her lips once again turning upright. “Songbird,” she introduced herself finally. It was her old codename, one she had personally selected and grew fondly of. When she had reawakened from her long slumber to a new galaxy that didn’t know her name, it seemed only natural to resume operations as Songbird.

And so she’d be Songbird to all but those she selectively chose to trust. This man was an unknown, so Songbird it was.

CAPTAIN RONHAR TANE, TK-3301
NAR SHADDAA, VERTICAL CITY
OBJECTIVE I: FIND THE OWNER

I don't know, in fact, but what I do know is you are the man I'm meant to meet."

Ronhar frowned underneath his helmet upon hearing their comment. They were confident, if nothing else, and from what Ronhar could tell, they had the look of a killer about them. At the very least, they weren't someone Ronhar wanted to mess with without having some sort of plan first. They were clearly quite dangerous...but with such danger usually came a correspondingly high reward, which in this case was the X-70B that Ronhar was fairly certain that they owned.

"I certainly am looking for attention, but what kind attention have I caught? Songbird", they continued, clearly using some sort of nickname or codename that Ronhar was unfamiliar with. He'd have his guys run the name through Imperial databases, but he wasn't holding his breath.

"Captain Ronhar Tane Ronhar Tane , TK-3301 of the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant", Ronhar replied as he continued to size up the person in front of him. "You know, you really need to be more careful, especially in a place like this. Do you have any idea just how rare the X-70B actually is? Mahporeem is well know for its antiquated stock of vehicles and spacecraft, but that particular model...well, the only way I could describe it would be 'positively ancient'. I don't believe they've been in production for centuries, perhaps even longer. What I want to know, is how you ended up acquiring one, and how you've kept it maintained for all this type", Ronhar concluded as he sat back in his chair, his hands dropping lazily to his sides, almost as if he were causing reacher for one of the blasters on his hip holster. But even if he were, it was hard to tell, and he certainly didn't seem like he had any intention of drawing his weapon. After all, he was after information, and getting information from someone who was injured, or worse, dead, was generally a rather bad idea...

Sol listened to the man, now with the name Ronhar Tane Ronhar Tane , as he explained the uniqueness of her personal transport. She didn’t need the history lesson, having been there when the ship was still actively manufactured. Of course that wasn’t information anyone needed to know, at least not at the current junction. No, instead she listened while still playfully smiling along.

As the trooper finished relaxed, Sol instead tensed up. While she maintained the cool and playful nature on the surface, beneath the table her synthetic hand retracted inwards and reformed itself into a scomp link. Connecting into one of the ports beneath the table, meant for the astromech droids employed by the establishment, she kept her eyes fixed on the trooper.

Oh it’s been mine for a long time,” she said, almost unable to stop herself from imbuing the statement with a hint of sarcasm. It wasn’t a lie. But the sarcasm would do its job in masking it. More importantly it masked the sound of her scomp link beginning to twist and turn as it connected with the bar’s many systems.

The Revenge, as I call her, is mine and mine alone. No sale,” she said, this time more bluntly than her previous statements thus far. Once again her words masked the sound of the link below. Her mind was like a virus, flooding the bar’s various systems and subsystems until one by one they silently fell to her control. The lights, the music lightly playing over the speaker system, the automatic drink dispensers, the doors, all of it was infected by the virus known as Songbird.

The most important system, however, was the security system. The bar, like most establishments on the infamous pirate world, had various turrets locked behind small vents across the roof, and a few rooms down in the security room was a few organics watching the live feed. Present with these organics was a small contingent of security droids.

Sol leaned forward and finished her drink, finishing it with a dramatic “
ahhhh.” She placed the empty glass down in front of her and straightened herself. “My work is for sale, however, and it won’t even cost you much. In fact all I require is information.” Her smile finally returned, “So do you have an offer for me, or just my ship?

Regardless of what happened next, she was ready: either to defend herself, or demonstrate her worth.

"Oh it's been mine for a long time. The Revenge, as I call her, is mine and mine alone. No sale."
, Sol Apolla Sol Apolla remarked to Ronhar in no uncertain terms. Ronhar couldn't help but notice that the enigmatic woman had dodged his question, though clearly she must have had at least some idea of just how valuable her ship was. That, of course, only piqued his interest even more, though before he could continue his impromptu interrogation, Sonbird surprised him with what she said next:

"My work is for sale, however, and it won't even cost you much. Her smile finally returned, "So do you have an offer for me, or just my ship?", she asked, almost as if she had preempted what Ronhar was eventually going to ask her. Ronhar continued to frown as he sized the mysterious stranger up and down, trying to get some sort of read on her. What was worrying Ronhar was the fact that he could not see her hands, which meant that she, much like him, was reaching for a blaster herself or was otherwise doing something in case she needed to defend herself. But if that were the case, why offer her services? She must be looking for something, but was unsure if she could get it from Ronhar, and hedging her bets in case things went south.

Fine then. Ronhar would play along, if only for now.

"Information, eh", Ronhar quipped as he got into a more relaxed position. "Well, that depends on what you're after. I can assure you that Mahporeenian Intelligence is some of the best across the galaxy", Ronhar remarked, not having to mention the fact that they were the ones who had tracked down her ship in the first place. "But as I said, that depends on what you're after. In fact, why should I hire you at all? What can you offer the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant that I couldn't get elsewhere?", Ronhar continued. What he said was true, in a sense, considering that the Imperial Remannt was about to launch its takeover of the neighboring star systems. Six planets, from Dornea to Munto Codru, were about to become part of the Imperial Remnant, and Ronhar was soon to have no shortage of willing recruits for him to make use of. So why should he bother hiring the person in front of him, minus the appeal of her ancient starship, of course.

Sol let out a genuine laugh, one that attracted the attention of several of the other bar patrons and lasted for several uncomfortable moments. As her laughter ended she gave the trooper a more serious look, with her brow furled. “Oh honey,” she said, her tone growing colder and firmer, “there isn’t a soul in this galaxy that’s like me.

As the words left her lips, she sent one single command to the security droids in the back room: kill.

Not a moment passed when the entire establishment was silenced by the sound of heavy blaster fire, loud enough to overwhelm all other sounds being produced. Several patrons stood and readied their weapons, unsure of what to expect, meanwhile others began to quickly and quietly leave in the hopes of avoiding whatever conflict was soon approaching. After another round of shots went off, a door in the far corner of the bar’s primary chamber slid open. Into the main room walked four security droids all brandishing battle rifles.

All while this was happening, Sol sat with her twisted smile on her face. “
This galaxy has no idea what kind of monster just woke up,” she said, her tone at odds with her smile, “Do you want to know what kind of monster I am?

Again, without missing a beat, the security turrets, one in each corner of the bar, loudly produced themselves from the vents that they hid behind. They were all aimed at a different patron- the droids also raised their weapons, and within literal seconds those few patrons that remained, most of which were armed and ready to fight whatever was happening, were all under the sights of either a security droid’s rifle or a turret.

They were all unsure of what to do or how to react, in fact nobody even knew what was happening. Who was hacking into the security system? From where? Nobody knew it was Sol, her synthetic arm still jacked into the droid socket beneath her and the trooper’s booth.

Do I need to execute one final command,” she stated bluntly, “or have I made my point?” A simple and effective way of telling the trooper that the recent events that occurred over the last forty seconds were because of her.

CAPTAIN RONHAR TANE, TK-3301
NAR SHADDAA, VERTICAL CITY
OBJECTIVE I: FIND THE OWNER

Ronhar was wondering when Sol Apolla Sol Apolla was going to make her play. Now, he had his answer.

"Oh honey, there isn't a soul in this galaxy that's like me."

Now where had he heard that line before?

The sounds of blaster fire began ringing throughout the bar as a quartet of security droids walked in, apparently shooting at nothing in particular, though Ronhar imagined that their inaccuracy was by design rather than due to poor marksmanship. Several of the bar's patron brandished weapons of their own as others ran to the nearest exit, looking to avoid whatever was to come.

This galaxy has no idea what kind of monster just woke up. Do you want to know what kind of monster I am?"

To further illustrate her point, a pair of security turrets dropped down from the corners of the bar, each one aimed at a random civilian as the droids similarly raised their weapons toward those who had remained behind. So she was a slicer, and from what Ronhar could tell, a damn good one. Someone like her would be quite useful in service to the Imperial Remnant.

"Do I need to execute one final command, or have I made my point?", she asked Ronhar rather bluntly, as if the display he had just witnessed hadn't clued him in to what she had been doing all this time.

"Very impressive", Ronhar conceded as he readied himself. "Now allowing me to respond".

With that, Ronhar leaped from the booth where he had been sitting and fired off a pair of sonic blasts from his Prototype Sonic Pistol, blasting each turret into pieces as he switched between them with uncannily quick speed. For someone with such heavily augmented cybnernetics, destroying those turrets were child's play, and his reaction time made everything look like it was moving in slow motion, allowing him to quickly identify the threats before him and eliminate them before they could properly respond.

He then turned his attention to the four droids, which had switched their attention from the stunned crowd onto him instead. The first droid took a blast of sonic energy to its face, as Ronhar rolled under the second one and kicked it in the chest, sending flying across the room and tumbling onto the floor. The third droid found itself sliced in half by Burnblade while the fourth found itself chopped in half from top to bottom, Ronhar having sliced down with his sword as he split the droid in two. He then walked over to the droid he had kicked and stomped its head in, all before his troopers who had been waiting outside had a chance to properly respond.

In the few seconds after, anyone who had been in the bar up to that point promptly left, and Ronhar ordered his soldiers to go back outside and prevent anyone else from entering the premises. He then calmly walked back over to where Sol Apolla Sol Apolla was sitting.

"You know", Ronhar continued, "you are, by far, not even remotely close to the most threatening thing I've ever faced. Sith Lords, Mandalorain Supercommandos, force entities, those are what I called monsters. But you...I'd call interesting, to be sure. What exactly is it that you want to know?", Ronhar asked, his interest now piqued.

The enigmatic woman silently sipped away at her drink as the trooper responded to her passive threats. They weren’t threats to him, of course it didn’t matter whether the trooper knew that or not. In fact the warrior before her had just saved the lives of every present. He didn’t know it, but she was a mere moment away from ordering the entire security suite to execute everyone present but the pair.

As the bar cleared along with the smoke from blaster fire, Sol removed her transformed hand from the port beneath the table and brought it up; she allowed him to watch the scomp link retract inwards and her hand replace it. Now she sat forwards, palms flat on the table and a murderous smile formed upon her face.

Oh I’m far more than just interesting,” she said with a deeper more sinister laugh, “But I suppose the real monster doesn’t have to come out yet.

She stretched herself back, an exaggerated breath was exhaled from her lungs as she did so. Standing, she strode over to the bar with a bounce in her step. Vaulting over the counter, she began rummaging through the racks of alcohol at her knees. Coming to a stand, she placed a tall bottle on the counter for a brief moment before popping its cork.

Corellian ale, aged quite a bit. The woman took several decent swigs straight from the bottle. She then turned her gaze back to the trooper. “You seem the type of man who knows the current state of affairs,” she said before taking a few more swigs. “
Give me a rundown: major players, the winners and losers, and anything on those wild cards.”

She continued using playful language but clearly wanted to know the deeper political struggles of the galaxy. Sol needed all she could get her mind on, if she ever hoped to bring her vision to fruition.
