The Price of Silence

The Price of Silence

A strong gust of wind blew the cool leather of the black duster on the back of Jedi Padawan Cable Smith. Looking out at the barren plains of the world he was only a mile outside of a major city for the planet. He came here for a few reasons, one was official Jedi business. And the other was to handle something off the record. Padawans were not handed the most important of tasks in the world, they were given menial tasks that put them in little to no danger at all until they had proven themselves that they were worthy of knighthood and the responsibility of handling dangerous jobs on their own.

But for now it was the simple things in life, a Jedi's presence was required on this world to document a certain event that had happened to bring it back to one of the clans to see if it was even worthy to send a knight to handle. However little did the young padawan know this was going to be the start of a very long day for him and the people he had yet to meet.

20 minutes later

Walking down the street with his hands tucked into the pockets of his large duster the Jedi walked down the street hoping to just get this over with. Apparently there was a recent string of murders that were deemed unnatural to local authorities. It could be the work of sith or darker forces. The young padawan was sent to document and bring back his findings. Down the street he passed by very few people. Up ahead was the place, and gathered around it was a swarm of dozens of people gawking and squawking worse than a flock of gulls. This was the place alright, where the last murder had taken place. Now he just had to get there

Serco walked along the road from his home towards Cuipernam. It had been an interesting few days to say the least but it was about time he had poked around the city. Being isolated in Kander was fine and at times even peaceful but at some point you just wanted to be around other people. The sights the smells was something entirely different than the open fields.

Up ahead Serco saw a crowd gathered sliding up quietly to the back of the group looking at one of the gawkers towards the back.

"What's going on here?"

At hearing something about another murder Serco shook his head.

"Another one, what do you mean another one?" "How many have there been?"

Walking up to the crowd of people Cable tried his best not to shove, it would be very unjedi like of him if he did. "Excuse me, Jedi business, excuse me." Moving person by person through the crowd trying not to bump elbows when he could the silence from the people grew more and more as he neared the center of the commotion. What lay there would be something most unnatural that would twist and scar the minds of weaker people. "Out of the way please!" With one small shove and a shout Cable made it through the barrier of people to see what the damage really was.

Broken, laying on the ground twisted and mangled was a body. The body of what looked to once be a young man only contorted and broken far worse than any wookie could do. With a slight cough Cable tried to keep himself from gagging over the stench of the victim, now he had seen dead bodies before. But never this bad, and never this brutal. Coughing one last time he stepped over the police tape and identified himself as the Jedi sent from the order. "Who is this man?" Cable asked a officer nearby.

"We don't know, perp removed the hands, teeth, eyes, and removed the face. All in broad daylight and no one saw a damn thing." Said the officer standing at the scene. Looking up Cable could see a message written into the ground in blood. "What's that say?" He asked the detective once more. "We don't know, it's written in a dialect used in the Kander Provence. We have someone coming to read it but we aren't sure how long it will take." Kneeling down the entire area smelt of the darkside. Looking over to the crowd cable had to know what this message spelt. "Can anyone read this!?" He shouted to the crowd hoping someone was nearby. [member="Serco Savar"]

Serco watched as a man walked up pushing his way through the crowd. When the man identified himself as a Jedi Serco took a few steps back blending in with the crowd just watching and listening.

Serco could feel the mix of emotions swirling in the group of onlookers some were curious, some were afraid, other were sickened. Serco could not help but smirk as he felt the young Jedi gagging and start to get sick.

When the guy started asking questions of the crowd Serco shook his head remaining in his spot.

"It says you are not welcome here." "What do you think it says?" "Why else does anyone go through so much trouble to remove the identity of a murder victim."

Coughing once more Cable stood up from his squatting position and decided that this was something big. "You, kid. Come here." Pointing over to Serco, Cable called the boy forward to assist in this string of murders. Reaching into his pockets Cable held out a few hundred credits gifted to him by the Jedi for things like food and housing but in this case he would need a local's help to get to the bottom this. It wasn't much but it was something and that's all he could muster up at the moment without being broke. After all it wasn't like everyone in the galaxy was a billionaire with the perfect body and personality.

Keeping his hand extended with the credits in his palm he looked back done at the body to see something jammed into the mouth of the victim. Kneeling back down Cable reached his free hand out and with the force he pulled the shiny object out of the mouth of the once living man. Levitating it into a small plastic bag he left set the watch in his pocket to later examine it after the boy came to help or not.

"Celestials in the sky this is bad." Cable said to himself hoping that this was not the work of the Sith. Maybe even a witch, either way this was not good for Cable or the people of this city

Serco crossed his arms with a smirk remaining where he was.

"I have a name and kid is not it." "Why does the Jedi care about a few murders outside of Republic space?" "A little far from home don't you think to be tossing around unearned authority."

"We are more than capable of taking care of our own problems." "The presence of the Jedi Order is not needed nor is it wanted."

Oh great, a wise ass. That's what this day needed, a kid that was so full of bantha pooopdoo that his eyes were brown. Sighing, Cable spoke in a calm and professional manner, "First and foremost. I'm not with the Republic, I am a member of the silver Jedi and our jobs are to find and uproot the darkside wherever it may be in the galaxy. To protect the innocent and help where we can." Pulling on his black leather duster he placed the credits back in his pockets and spoke some more to the young man.

"This is the fifth murder in this month, and it seems to me that your local authorities are having trouble with this. So you can either take this money and help me bring whoever did this to justice, or you can sit there and make assumptions about who I am and what my agenda is." This was not good at all, and this kid wasn't helping Cable at all. His job was to document his findings and report them back to the clans. But this was urgent. He couldn't sit here and observe and report. Something needed to be done and soon, or else more people would die.

Serco smirk.

"If it walks like a Jedi, talks like a Jedi, and tries to impose it's will like a Jedi it is still a Jedi." "Do they not have death where you are from?"

Serco took a few steps closer his arms still crossed.

"And how do you know the five deaths are connected?" "You have been here what 5 minutes?" "I was born here we have a few dozen deaths every month." "Between a harsher climate than people are used to causing accidents, people running afoul of the wildlife, and the general human nature of not getting along people die."

Serco tilted his head to the side as the Jedi put the credits back in his pocket.

"Isn't bribery a path to the dark side?" "We don't you grow a brain and start with who you are." "Then you may want to start with learning the name of who you are talking to instead of running around calling people kid."

Serco uncrosses his arms.

"Here why don't a do you a favor and show you how it is done." "My name is Serco." "Do you know anything about where you are?" "This is Ansion." "Ansion is known for two things." "High winds and commerce." "Dozens of people come through this planet every day." "Being that we are some close to the capital did you stop to thing maybe putting this many people together with different backgrounds causes the occasional disagreement that doesn't end with a handshake and an Ale in the Cantina?"
