Description:
The Peregrine was designed as a last-ditch escape vehicle and personal transport for Empress Ashin Varanin and her First Apprentice, Spencer Jacobs. It incorporates many of the best features of Sith Empire engineering, trading performance for durability and reliability. Its construction focuses heavily on Koensayr components, known for decent performance and exceptional longevity.

The vessel operates on basic fuel cells, rather than anything esoteric or advanced. At the cost of slightly substandard performance, the vessel can refuel almost anywhere, and cheaply. As a personal transport, the Peregrine is meant to operate with maximum autonomy, allowing communication with allies and coordination of resources regardless of Ashin's location.

The vessel's armament is underwhelming, a total of four laser cannons and a small tractor beam. Most of its potential cargo space has been devoted to such necessities as a training room and a small, expensive alchemy lab. Its cloaking device, a rarity in Sith Empire technology, is hibridium-based and thus double-blind. Ashin's virtual obsession with Spencer's safety has ensured that the designers and manufacturers spared no expense. The prototype cloaking device used in Kaine Zambrano's personal fighter has been upgraded, refined and stabilized. A small backup hyperdrive is sufficient for short jumps at a slow speed, should the main hyperdrive be damaged. In many ways, the Peregrine is a miracle of miniaturization. Though its individual components are unimpressive, their compression and arrangement easily tripled the vessel's design and manufacturing cost.

The Peregrine is also designed, in the tradition of Arca Jeth's ship and the Qel-Droma brothers' vessel, to serve as both insertion craft and mobile, miniature praxeum. A small training room, an equally small library of books and artifacts, and an alchemy lab allow Ashin to continue Spencer's training. The vessel's name is derived from an ancient Corellian legend involving a cursed wanderer.

The vessel's pilot sits in a large throne, reminiscent of the Obsidian Throne on Dromund Kaas. As with many ships of this size, the vessel is heavily automated, to the point where a single operator is often sufficient to fly the ship from the throne and its numerous controls.

False telesponders allow a selection of decoy IFF signals.

New anti-heat and anti-radiation attachments, as well as an experimental Kerts-Bhrg field generator, permit the Peregrine to travel inside the outermost layers of a main sequence star, or cooler, for a short period of time, certainly less than half an hour. At those depths, stellar temperatures are only tens of thousands of degrees, not millions. A Kerts-Bhrg field being polyhedral, its generators are located at wingtips, belly, nose, and a couple of other locations sufficient to cover the vessel while minimizing number of generators required. The Peregrine's hull shape is close to ideal for these purposes. Ashin's alchemy lab, useless since her return to the light side, was removed to make room for the experimental new equipment.

Radiation deflection badges are easily and plentifully available in the small ship, protecting its occupants, and their food and water supplies, from radiation spikes. An outer layer of ardanium increases the vessel's resilience to structural stress while irradiated, while a thick layer of agrinium boosts radiation resistance. The field generator, ardanium/agrinium plating and so forth have no combat benefit. The Peregrine's double-blind hibridium cloaking device provides another layer of emergency backup should the relevant systems fail, though a hibridium cloaking bubble's impermeability to light would only protect the Peregrine for thirty seconds to a minute -- maybe not even enough to exit a shallow dive.
