The Odds Justify The Means

As Growl had started recruiting a large number of mercenaries he was curious where he would store them as LC-2 the asteroid on which the HQ for Justice Shipping was located was far to small for the 600 man Army Growl had coming.Growl had been referred to a man known as Jarkel Gowiphe who could decent sized bases as fast as possible. While they couldn't be built in a day as any man who owned an army wished, they could be built in a matter of months to 2 years. The man was living on Hoth in an outpost he built himself.Growl knew he had an office somewhere in Mygeeto where he wanted his base built but decided what he was going to do was better done in private...VERY private.

Growl had The Cardinal Company 2nd Rangers make the preparations for arrival.Growl would be taking a shuttle from his ship down to the surface and he would be escorted by 8 specialist from Cardinal Company. As the travel commenced Growl knew this could go only two ways and that was really good for himself or really bad for both of them. While traveling Growl sent an encoded message to Jarkel notifying him that he was on his way to the outpost and that he'd arrive within the next 48 hours.Resting his feet on a coffee table he let out a loud sigh at the fact in the end he'd have to make sure there were no loose ends once this outpost was built...

As Growl's ship came within Hoth's Orbit it was a rather bland sight, who the hell would want to live on this frozen Ice ball unless.....you owed someone lots of money and this and uncharted space were your only options.Growl and his 8 Rangers boarded the shuttle that would eventually take them to Jarkel's outpost/house.As the shuttle left the hangar and began approaching Hoth's surface Growl thought about how many people lived here and what the war was like with the rebels and the empire. He had heard the stories but never bothered to investigate himself and here he was on the very planet it happened on.It took roughly 3 hours to reach Jarkel's outpost and while one of the Rangers flew Growl looked out over the barren landscape of Hoth, what a miserable place to look at.

"Good thing this a short vacation" Growl said aloud to his Rangers. Some nodded the others didn't say anything, only one Ranger who went by Brute said something and that was in a very low voice "Hell Yea!".As the shuttle approached the outpost Growl knew this wasn't and ideal meeting spot for Jarkel and he probably wouldn't be very happy that Growl came on short notice.Looking down from one of the shuttles windows Growl could see 6 figures in heavy clothing...Growl was under the assumption he was alone, not with a family and possibly bodyguards. The shuttle touched down with a soft hum as the engines died down and a loud hiss as the door opened letting the fresh air enter the shuttle. The shuttles ramp would make a distinct snow sound as it smashed into the snow making Growl smile as his Rangers disembarked guns in hand and securing the perimeter.

"This was rather unexpected Mr.....whatever the feth you're name is and I need to know exactly why the hell you are here otherwise i'll... i'll...".Jarkel couldn't get threaten Growl considering he can't back up his statement. As Growl walked down the ramp he noticed that of the 6 figures there were 2 lightly armed bodyguards presumably mercenaries, one was Jarkel, one was his daughter, another his son,and the last was his wife.Growl stood right in front of Mr.Gowphie with his rifle in hand and his helmet on.

"Jarkel there is no need for you to fear me or my men,if I wanted you dead then I would have spun up the blasters on my shuttle as soon as I saw this outpost.I am here to discuss a proposal I have that can make you a large sum of money.Enough money to pay off you're debts so you and you're family can live on a nice planet,in a nice city, with real food, and even a few servants.Sound good Mr.Gowiphe?"

Jarkel's face got white as the snow as he heard the words large sum of money. He looked at Growl in shock,he was scared, happy, and guilty all at the same time but managed to get the words "Come inside" out.

As Growl entered what he assumed was the living quarters of the outpost the first thing he noticed was the putrid smell,it was as if something was rotting. These living conditions sucked and although they seemed happy on the outside he could see in in the peoples eyes they hated it,that they wished for a better life,a fresh start. They were suffering because of something the father did and while not right was just the way it is. Jarkel motioned for Growl to take a seat in a tattered leather seat which nearly collapsed under the weight of him and his armor.

"So Jarkel I hear you can build things in a relatively short amount of time.I need something built...it needs to be well hidden, well defended in case of an attack, and quite large to house soldiers as well as other various staff like janitors, cooks and so on.You think you can do this?".As Growl finished what he was saying he clenched his fist hard in anticipation for Jarkel's response.Growl really didn't want to discuss the terms of this base and then have him decline because then he'd have to kill this man,his family, and anything else in a 10 kilometer radius to make sure nothing was leaked to the public.

Jarkel scratched the back of his neck as Growl clenched his fist kind of worried but not terrified like earlier considering his bodyguards were inside and Growl's were outside patrolling the perimeter.

"Well before we get into this how about you tell me you're name and who the hell told you were to find me?".Jarkel was quite obviously worried that if some random guy could find him then surely the warlord looking for him would find him in no time.

Growl was getting a bit aggravated at this point and just wanted to discuss business. He looked at the guards who were watching him gripping their blaster rifles closely...smart,especially when around an unknown man.Growl redirected his attention to Jarkel lying to his face by saying "I had to pay hundreds of thousands of credits to have spacers search for you,it took 7 months. My name is Durant but you can call me Growl. Now can we get to business?"

"Sure Durant, lets discuss this proposal.I can give you an estimate on how much this 'build' will cost but these are just estimates I can't give a final number until I do all my math calculations.First things first I need a location,a reason, and a level of armaments you want on a scale on 1-10,1 being none 10 being a god damn fortress."

Growl smiled a bit under his helmet as Jarkel spoke. His words were all well spoken and seemed as if he was being serious.Growl may have just found his guy."Well Jarkel I need it to be Isolated and I would prefer something in the snow so I can use the natural cover of the weather and also the climate to my advantage to deter people looking for this outpost. The reason is to store troops. As far as armaments go I need something that can remain quite hidden but also weather resistant, and capable of fending off a small to medium sized assault."

Jarkel scratched some things down on his notepad which for an engineer was quite primitive and not to mention pathetic. Jarkel looked up to Growl who was staring intensely and said "Hey,stop staring you're starting to creep me out you brute".

Growl grunted at what Jarkel had to say clearly bored while Jarkel was writing things down.8 minuets had passed until Jarkel finally set the pencil down and removed his glasses looking at Growl.

"According to my calculations I have here if you want something brand new it would cost around 92,000,000 credits for construction, another 2,000,000 to pay off all the staff for a year, and finally 20,000,000 more credits for all the weapons. Now if I had to guess i'd say you don't have 114,000,000 million credits...do you?" Jarkel was now biting his lip awaiting Growl's response clearly satisfied with the thought Growl wouldn't have the funds and would be leaving shortly.

Growl didn't have the credits,he barley even had half of that."Well is there any other option?I have money just not that much money, maybe someone is selling a previously owned base?"

Jarkel pondered his options standing up and heading to a nearby window looking into the snowy waste of Hoth."Durant we have one other option,my brother has a base on a planet named Mygeeto. It was built 5 years ago right before he died at the hands of some Chiss thugs.I have the access codes and coordinates for the base as well as a list of contacts who know how the base operates...".

"How much do you want for it?" Growl asked near spontaneously standing up from his chair.

Jarkel knew he had the advantage over Growl just because of the fact he was desperate and needed this deal."How about 65,000,000 credits along with the destruction of a base...the base the man I owe money to owns...?".

"50,000,000 and I bring the Warlords head back to you...my first and final offer" Growl would place his hand on his pistol once more and be prepared to fire on the guards standing 2 meters away at the door.
