The Mysterious Nether Amulets

[For the sake of plot, information written in [prentices] are consider OOC knowledge, while anything in open text is considered IC Knowledge, or common knowledge that would be known by most in the galaxy about the Nether Amulets]

Intent: Create a fun and interesting plot device for Lords of Shadows and generate a item that can be used by all factions for their own purposes and plots. In general it is one of those force items that can lead to new areas of exploration and story-telling.

Modularity: None
Production: Unique
Material: Unknown [Crystallized sorcery plasma poured out of the crucible of the Dark Forge]
Description:

The Nether Amulets work much like the fable Sith Oracle Stones. However, unlike the mentioned sith relic, the Nether Amulets not only use the force but are intimately linked to the Netherworld of the Force. Each Nether Amulet contains inside it a small portal to the nether realms, however, it is not powerful enough to send an entire being with his physical form intact. But it is powerful enough for one to project their consciousness through meditation. The Nether Amulets, link the mind of the user to the raw untamed power of the nether realms of the force and channel it into the user to temporarily endow the user with multiplied and amplified power to perform a certain skill. The Nether Amulets are not evil inherently, they conform to the force signature of the user. What is "evil" or perceived as malevolent is the medium by which it operates, the Netherworld. The Netherworld is a dangerous and corruptive place it can lead to terrible side-effects of one of less force ability enters it (more about the side-effects below).

Appearance:
Size: Baseball Sized
Containment: Can be held as a necklace with a chain, embedded into armor or just kept upon an altar or carried by hand

Powers Granted By Nether Amulets:
!Note!: The level of Amplification of your skills by the Nether Amulets, severely depends on the starting level of said skill you are amplifying. In other words the effect varies if you are Apprentice/Padawan, Knight and Master. Also the self-damaging effects also depend upon your mastery of the force.

Meditation Amplification:
Battle Meditation: [Force Level Preferred: Knight/Master]
-If one uses the Nether Amulets while performing Battle Meditation, the user’s powers are amplified dramatically and their reach is expanded to a powerful degree. So much so in fact the user is given the power to invade the minds of the enemy as well, and dispense onto them a sense of dread or even hysterical fear. Nether Amulet assisted Battle Meditation is the most powerful form and cannot be so easily dispelled when activated.
Moving Meditation: [Force Level Preferred: Apprentice, Padawan/Knight/Master]
- If one uses the Nether Amulets while performing Moving Meditation, the user’s abilities are multiplied and he/she can mend and move objects which in his normal state could probably never conduct.
Healing Meditation: [Force Level Preferred: Knight/Master]
-If one uses the Nether Amulets while performing Moving Meditation, the user’s abilities are multiplied and their scope and depth in healing are dramatically multiplied. Particularly powerful curses and sorcery can be dispelled, powerful poisons dispelled and wounds healed faster.
Force Precognition: [Force Level Preferred: Master]
This is perhaps the Nether Amulets most infamous power. Once the user is in the deepest parts of his meditation and fully immersed in the nether realms, he can call upon the spirits that rest there to send him a vision of events to come. The Nether Amulets provide the power for supreme clairvoyance. However, these visions into the future are often cryptic in nature and are hard to make out. In order to fully use these images, one’s ability to focus the force to make the images clearer- is key.

Communication and Force Projections:
Projective Telepathy: [Force Level Preferred: Knight/Master]
-The Nether Amulets can be used to increase the power of one’s telepathic projection. With the Nether Amulets one can project his speech, emotions and feel to as far as the person wishes. However, this amplification heavily depends on the user’s meditative powers. This effect is most powerful when in a meditative state. But less powerful projections in shorter range can be done in a semi-meditative state.
Force Illusions: [Force Level Preferred: Master]
The Amulets bestow upon the user powerful capabilities to summon and conjure unspeakable illusions, ones that feel real and can come into contact with physical objects. The Amulet feeds off of the mental power of the user, and as a result a great deal of stress is placed on the mind of the user. In order to sustain the illusion conjured by the Amulet the user must have a sound mental strength, for if he lingers to keep the illusion alive for too long he will fall unconscious or worse, never wake from his own meditations.
Eyes in the Darkness: [Force Level Preferred: Apprentice, Padawan/Knight/Master]
The Nether Amulet can be used, with little force necessity by the user, to spy upon other worlds or even people. All the user must do is conjure a clear an precise image of the world of person he wishes to see through the nether of the force, and the amulet projects the subject’s image to them. The image is only sustained for a temporary moment and the longer the user persists to see the image the image becomes more blurred.
Dampen Presence: [Force Level Preferred: Knight/Master]
If used by a powerful Master the Amulet can be used to dampen the force presence of an entire army, fleet or conversely those of a few men. This all depends on the level mastery in force dampening the user possesses.

Mental Assaults:
[Note: The effects of the Amulet are most effective when subject is in the vicinity of the Nether Amulet. If conducting a mental alteration upon a large group, multiple people using the nether amulet are more effective. Also all these effects are only useful when conducted by Master Level characters]
Mind Control:
Using the Nether Amulet, the user can project his mental powers and soul upon another with amplified power. Resulting in the user having strengthened control of a person, now what separates Nether Amulet conjured mind control is that the possessed being can transfer his possessed state to others. In theory one can come to control a whole group of people just by the original possessed being coming into close contact with others. However, the more you possess the harder it is to sustain the conjuring, if you linger to long you may suffer mental damage yourself.
Force Fear and Fore Insanity:
Very similar in requirements and warnings as Mind Control, however, this can only be conducted on a single person. Also said person must be in close proximity to the amulets, it is most effective if they are in the same room or chamber.

Other Uses:

Force Training:
The Nether Amulets may also be used as a Training Tool. Apprentices and Padawans, can step into the dark abyss of the Amulets and be taught valuable lesson in channeling the force, obeying its fluctuations and above all else the dark abyss can teach the young force user humility in the face of the force. For the force, in its untamed form is unforgiving and violent. Thus, teaching the student not to take for granted the privilege he/she possesses in being able to wield the force. However, it is warned, there should be a master at all times when this item is used for training. Stepping into such a realm, even for a moment runs the risk of insanity and nightmares without end. It is a realm that places stress upon the mind.

Amulets and Non-FUs:
The Amulet can be used by Non-FUs as well, however the effects are not as spectacular as if used by a trained force user. Non-FUs can use the amulet for spying purposes or for clairvoyance as well. But as mentioned before, the images can come out cryptic and blurred, more so for Non-FU. However, still the clairvoyant aspect is not to be belittled; even a Non-FU can witness a clear image of what is yet to come. Also even though he cannot summon images, he can still ask the abyss questions. But beware, some questions should never be asked and some answers are too horrible to be seen.

Fighting Against a Nether Amulet User:
Although the Nether Amulets provide the user powerful amplifications of his skills, the amplification heavily depends on the skill level applied. For example, if a Knight was performing a skill, the nether amulet would amplify it to a higher degree, but when faced against a Master, the master with his skill level can still dispell [although it would be still very difficult to do so] whatever is conjured by the Knight as his level of skill does not match that of a Master. Therefore, the power and persistence of the amplification depends upon the user and the opponent. Now if a master wields it, the resistance needed to dispell any of his conjuring would take a much greater and more combined effort.

Destroying an Amulet:
The Nether Amulets cannot be destroyed by any weapon of energy form, powerful magic keeps it alive and protects it from all sorts of damage. To properly destroy a Nether Amulet it must be cast into a force nexus. There the overwhelming energy of the force will overload the item and explode to pieces. The magic that imprisoned inside it is released and dissolved. However, be warned, if your amulet is destroyed and you have used the device for too long and suffer from its corruption your mind is linked to it and thus its destruction becomes your own.

Corruption, Insanity and the Netherworld of the Force:

Though the Nether Amulets bestow onto its user powerful amplifications of his own skills, he is still vulnerable to the swirling vortex of raw force that is the Netherworld. As mentioned before, in order for the amplification to come into effect the consciousness, the mind, of the user is sent into the dark abyss of the realm between physical and ethereal in the force. This realm was not designed for those who have lived in the realm of the living, its nature is beyond comprehension. Therefore, it places great mental stress upon those who enter. The danger of going mad or suffering powerful mental damage is very much real and no one, not even the most powerful masters, are immune to its effects. The penalty for wanton entrance and exit is insanity, irreversible corruption or death. These consequences however, depend on the scale of mastery of the user.

Scale of Corruption:
Each time a user peers into the abyss to perform a skill, a part of his mind is affected by the nether realms. A type of corruption occurs, his force becomes tainted by the nether realm. The scale of the corruption depends on the severity of the user’s skill performed, the more mental concentration and summoning of the force, the more the risk of corruption. If one becomes too corrupt they become weak minded and the Amulet begins to control them and not the other way around. One becomes a Gollum like creature, addicted to the netherworld and possessed by its untamed force.

Whisperers in the Deep:
“I see you. You cannot hide. There is nothing in the void, nothing but death and darkness”

Be warned, that when one steps into the nether realm- one is not alone. Dead spirits both malevolent and kind lurk its abyss; by stepping into their realm you become a flashing light of life to them and they may attack you. Spirits of the Netherworld either from the dark abyss or the Sith home of ancient lords, Chaos, can easily spot your existence in their domain, so it would be wise to spend the least amount of time in their domain as possible.

Another thing to be careful is, there are others who possess this Amulet and they can easily peer into your thoughts and doings-on as you do to others. What is even more dangerous, is some possess the power to send spells across the nether realms to haunt your amulet and your mind. Be very careful when conducting intimate affairs with the Amulet.

A few things, this submission is a very detailed and thorough document. As it stands, here are the issues that I, and others on staff have.

  • They simply amplify every force power that can be powergamed already to even further levels.
  • Practically impossible to destroy.
  • Event level type prize, and we aren't going to hand that type of artifact out.
  • The netherworld of the force is a very vague concept that has only a few paragraphs on it in the Wookieepedia article.
  • This feels very LOTR in it's inspiration and effects.

If you feel like this was unfairly judged, you may second chance it. As it stands:
