- The Connection: The Mark of Malphas is intended to work as an alchemized/artificial method of forming a force bond between two people. Through this bond, Darth Malphas will have a more conscious understanding of the apprentice as well as his standing in The Force. This force bond gives the apprentice a means to telepathically communicate with the Sith Lord, even across great distances. It also allows the Master to be aware of his apprentice's physical well being, even when seperated by star systems.
- The Power of Malphas: This Mark is meant to aid an apprentice in his training. It works as a focal point for meditation, minorly enhances the apprentice's grasp of The Force, and gives the apprentice a constant exposure to the Dark Side of the Force.
- The Dark Side is with you: This mark serves as a conduit for the Darkness within one of Malphas' apprentices. With focused meditation the apprentice can learn to slowly harness the darkness within themselves as well as the darkness this mark brings to them.
- Enhanced power: Though still weak compared to the power of a Sith Lord this mark is an alchemical mark, which serves the purpose of enhancing the apprentice's powers in the Force. Although they are minor enhancements it is extremely useful for those who are new to the Force and it's mysteries.
- Keeping track: This mark allows Darth Malphas to keep a tight leash on his apprentices. Not only will he know their surface thoughts and emotions, he can use it to track them through out the galaxy and ensure they are acting apporpiately.
- The Call: Through this mark Malphas can summon his apprentices to him. When he wishes he can focus on their connection and it will cause their mark to throb uncomfortably, bordering deep pain the longer that the call goes unanswered.
- Force Null: The effects of this mark are completely diminished when within a force void. A void stone field or ysalamiri field can cause this mark to be reduced to nothing more than a simple tattoo.
- The privacy is lost: Ultimately this mark surrenders the wearer's privacy to the Dark Lord, allowing him to summon him and create mental connections at will, as well as track the person's whereabouts.
- Taint of darkness: This mark is a creation of the Dark Side, making it a miniature nexus of it's power. Due to this the mark will slowly attempt to corrupt the apprentice, far past it's intentional point. If the apprentice does not control himself and maintain focus, he could be lost to the Dark Side forever and become a harbinger of it's will.
- Removal: The longer the mark dwells on the persons body, the more painful it is to remove. This mark cannot be removed by the apprentice by almost any means. Even if the skin was burned away or the arm severed, the effects of the rune will remain until dispelled by the Master.
The Dark mark is an ability that Darth Malphas gained from the Holocron of Kruel Zing. A powerful device, it showed him many truths of the Dark Side of the Force, including the ability to brand an apprentice. An ancient ritual used by the One Sith, this technique was passed down from master to apprentice for years. The mark was meant to act as an artificial force bond which tethers the Master and apprentice together.
The Mark of Malphas appears as an ebony tattoo imprinted on the wearer's skin. After some exposure to the mark the apprentice can focus on it, causing it to disappear into his skin, yet the effects of the rune will remain.
Even though the mark cannot be removed by the apprentice, it exists only to further their training and connection to the Dark Side. By utlilizing the mark in deep meditation they can have a stronger focus and maintain the deepest of trances for much longer than they could without this mark. Although it's abilities are nullified by the power of a void stone or ysalamiri field, it will still be present when the wearer leaves that field. A conduit of the dark side of the force, it serves the purpose of slowly exposing the wearer to the rawest forms of the Dark Side. In time, the apprentice can learn to ignore the corrupting properties of the mark and draw on it as a tool, yet that takes considerable time.
