The air was warm and inviting inside the quaint little restaurant Chassian had picked for their night out. Candles softly flickered, a fire crackled in the distance, and the sweet scent of roses mixed with freshly baked breads and roasted meats and vegetables lingered around them. Rubia raised her glass toward her counterpart across the table, full of a deep red wine which would have no effect on the Sangnir, but the symbolism remained the same.
“A toast then?” She asked, hoping he might share a few tender words to start the night off. He always knew just what to say to make her blush and smile, which is exactly what she did as their glasses clinked together, the sound ringing out around the room. After a sip from her drink, Rubia set her glass down gently, picked up a knife, and began to cut some slices of cheese for the pair of them, placing some on some crackers. They shared their drinks, cheeses and breads, savouring the moments, wishing it would last forever.
As the night came to a close, Rubia slid her hand across the oak table between them to meet his. When their fingertips connected, she lingered for a moment, then raised her hand off the table to reveal a handwritten note hidden beneath her palm. Expectantly, she gazed into his golden eyes, pleading with him to read the letter. A warm smile formed across her features.
My Chassian,
You light up my skies when no other stars can reach.
When I look into your eyes my heart still skips a beat.
Love that no one denies, our sacred bond unbreakable,
My loyalty to you, dear, forever is unshakable.
Your Rubia
Gently tucked inside a black velvet cloth within the box lay The Lovesong. The polished green crystal affixed to the silver chain glowed faintly under the candle light.
Rubia placed her hands down on the table between them and leaned in closer toward him. “Chassian, I love you.” She spoke softly as tears formed in the corner of her eyes. Her smile seemed to stretch even further, and she tucked her bottom lip into her mouth as she tried to hold back her emotions. When she finally broke eye contact to blink for just a second, the built up teardrop cascaded down her face.
“You will always be my home.”
