Braze could feel the restlessness in his student, and the silent ache to see his friend unbound. The boy's thoughts clung to purpose and nothing else, all other things forgotten. He was young, a blade still learning what it meant to be drawn.

They had returned to Veridia, where Master Tirin watched over the temple grounds. Though Braze bore the mark of exile, cast out by the judgment of Jand Talo and the Order he once called home, Tirin stood beyond their reach, a man who kept his own counsel and answered only to the Force itself. He had shown Braze mercy, allowing him to remain and make use of the temple's halls rather than cast him out.

The Veridian Temple rose from the valley like a relic half-buried in memory, its stones softened by moss and time. Within its still corridors lingered the scent of incense and wet loam, perfumed by the ancient wisteria trees that surrounded what had once been the Ashlanti Elysium. Restored to purpose, the temple served again as a place of learning and healing, both of which Braze still needed. Master Tirin had simply seen as much and offered him sanctuary here. Such sanctuary came with responsibility and rules, spoken and unspoken, as well as the understanding that safety was not absolution.

He made no protest of it, nor sought to test the bounds of Tirin's mercy. At present, the Headmaster oversaw the care of Leo's friend and confidant, who had fallen under the sway of a parasitic entity that fed commands into her mind, eroding her will and bending her to its purpose.

Fortunately, Braze had received word that preparations were complete, and the healer was ready to begin treatment upon his and Leo's return. He padded down the long, echoing hallways, as he made his way toward the medical suite where the girl was kept.

Inside, there was a quiet that was thick and reverent. Master Tirin sat beside her, calm and watchful, while Valin stood nearby, an unfamiliar device in his hands, a strange, intricate construct of his own making, designed for the procedure that lay ahead.
Braze stepped aside, drawing off his long dark cloak and hanging it near the door before moving to wash his hands, giving Leos space to enter. He watched the boy carefully as he joined them, then turned his gaze toward the girl, curious about her and the bond she shared with Leos.

From their earlier conversations, Braze had gathered that she was someone of great importance to him, perhaps a guardian figure who had looked after Leos when his father had cast him aside. If she could be freed from this affliction, her insight might prove invaluable. More than that, Braze hoped the boy might find a measure of peace in seeing his friend restored.

Tirin looked to the two who entered. "Welcome."

The man rose from his seat. Though neither tall nor imposing, there was something in the way the raven-haired master carried himself that spoke volumes of quiet authority and inner strength, the kind born of long years spent mastering both blade and self.

"Leos, I'm glad to see you again. You said you wished to be present, so I'll ask once more; Are you certain you ready to see this through?" The master's voice was calm as he turned those deep heliotrope eyes upon the dark-haired youth.

"The entity has rooted itself deep within her mind. We believe it can be removed by freezing it. Valin has fashioned a tool for this purpose. If we can isolate the source, his device should draw it out without harming her." Tirin explained to the little one.

Valin offered a small smile as he held the device out for Leos to inspect.
"I've tried to design it in a way that provides the most human and comfortable response possible," he explained. "It won't restrain her or cause pain, only slow the parasite's activity long enough to see it removed safely."

The device itself resembled a small handheld blender in size and shape, though its design was far more intricate. A soft silicone rim formed the base, meant to rest gently against the skin and create a secure seal. Within the chamber, a series of stabilizing components were designed to support the protrusion at it's center, meant to hold steady as the internal systems cooled the protrusion, drawing heat and energy away until the parasitic presence could no longer sustain itself. It was certainly designed with care and consideration.

Braze stepped closer to the woman, seeing her for the first time and studying her with a quiet sort of curiosity. This was the friend Leos had spoken of; The one who had stood by him when his father had turned him away. Even beneath the haze of her condition, Braze could sense her presence through the Force, dimmed but not extinguished, like a candle struggling against the wind.

"Leos, I'm glad to see you again. You said you wished to be present, so I'll ask once more; Are you certain you ready to see this through?"

"I do, sir," Leos insisted.

Leos took note of what the two Jedi spoke of. They were going to freeze it off? That... certainly made sense. When things got that cold organic life kinda just shut down. He trusted that they wouldn't do anything to hurt Sari.

For her part, Sari was perfectly complaint. Leos had been able to simply tell his older sister that he would return to his father if she waited. Her cognition was either that pliable, or she was in some way was looking to accept reasoning that allowed her to momentarily defy that thing in her head. Her blank expression hardly gave anything away if that was the case. Leos made his way to the young woman's side and let out an exhale.

"Alright... after this you can take me home like I agreed," he muttered. "Just... stay still in there..."

Sari said nothing, but her eyes flickered with life for a brief moment. It was the only indication that something within was fighting to be expressed, only to be lost to the noise of the implant's influence. Leos grimaced as he looked over the chamber that held her.

"Boy, you guys sure did make it look like a murder machine," the boy observed with a nervous exhale.

Braze watched the exchange between his student and the other men, then stepped forward to stand beside him. He placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder.

"She's going to be okay," Braze said softly, his voice steady and calm offering reassurance.

At the same time, Tirin moved with composed precision. With a subtle gesture, he guided the girl into unconsciousness, using the Force to ease her descent into stillness. He carefully lowered her onto the medical bed, ensuring she was stable and comfortable before continuing.

Reaching out, Tirin accepted the device from Valin, drawing it from the man's hands through telekinesis, and positioned it over the coral implant. With graceful care, he secured it in place. A small cylinder of cryoban was slotted into the device with a twist and a sharp click, releasing the chilling vapor that began to flood the chamber around the coral. It was, fortunately, a brief but intense burst of cold. Frost spread rapidly across the outer shell of the device, condensation gathering and freezing in place almost instantly. A low hum filled the air as the mechanism cycled the frigid vapor through its vessel, maintaining the chill needed to neutralize the coral.

Several agonizing minutes slipped by as the device did its work. At last, the hum subsided. Tirin exhaled slowly, then drew the device away. With precise telekinetic focus, he began to extract the remains of the coral, peeling it back from the neural tissue with delicate care to avoid further harm. The lifeless organism was lifted free, placed gently into a containment jar, and sealed.

Once the area was clear, Tirin cleansed and sterilized the wound with practiced efficiency. Then, extending his hand, he let the Force flow through his fingertips, a gentle but steady wave of restoration washing over her. Healing energy washed over the injury, encouraging the tissue to mend and the skin to knit closed once more.

Once the raven haired Master had finished, Tirin stepped aside to tidy up, allowing the girl to rest a few moments longer. When he was satisfied that her breathing had steadied, he reached out through the Force and gently guided her back toward consciousness.

Braze watched the procedure in quiet awe, fascinated by the Master's calm and exact use of several Force abilities in such rapid succession. His jade-green eyes drifted toward the girl, curious and a little anxious to see how she would feel when she awoke.

"There we go," Tirin said softly, turning to Valin with a faint smile. "That wasn't so bad now. Let's give them a moment to gather themselves and fetch her something nice to drink."

With that, he excused himself and Valin, carrying the sealed remains of the coral away to be examined elsewhere, leaving Braze and Leos at the girl's side as she began to stir.

"There we go," Tirin said softly, turning to Valin with a faint smile. "That wasn't so bad now. Let's give them a moment to gather themselves and fetch her something nice to drink."

Sari's awareness didn't come right away. It was slow at first. Simple blinking, followed by labored breath. Then her teeth began to chatter. Sari was tired, freezing, and felt like she had been ran over by a speeder.

"Holy feth..." she groaned, gritted her teeth. "Is this what it feels like to die? Chit... I thought I wouldn't hate dying..."

Leos couldn't restrain himself from moving into the chamber as Master Tirin departed, standing next to Sari's bed as she sat up and clutched her forehead. He tried to say something, but nothing he could think of sounded remotely legible or worth saying. It's like his brain was trying to communicate something to him in another language.

"Oy... you okay, Lee?" Sari asked him, shaking Leos out of his daze.

"Y-yeah, I'm fine," Leos grumbled, crossing his arms and turning away. "You gonna ask where you are?"

"I can here just fine," the Twi'lek woman assured. "I was aware of myself, y'know. I heard everything, even with that... fethin thing puppeting me around. Just gonna pretend like you're some stoic little warrior, huh?"

The young Themian let out an exhale, puffing out his chest. His ears twitched with embarrassment, and his cheeks puffed up slightly.

"I don't know what you're talking about..." the boy huffed.

"Oh, come here you little git," the young woman scoffed.

Sari, using her leverage of being much taller and older, reached out and pulled Leos in for a bear hug. One of her hands went to ruffle his hair. Leos, who had been quick to fix his hair when Braze had done so, didn't fight it. His body simply went limp, and his face was hidden in Sari's shoulder.

"I owe you one, Lee," she sighed. "So much for me keeping you safe... I got my ass kicked."

"It's not your fault..." Leos mumbled. "Father isn't normal..."

"Well, I do still owe you one... Maybe I'll luck out and my next opponent won't be some freak of nature."

She paused for a moment before speaking again.

"Lee, you're gettin' my shirt wet..."

"Sorry."

There was a reason that Leos was trying his best to hide his face. It was the one thing he truly feared anyone seeing out of him...

Weakness.

Braze watched the exchange curiously. He picked up on the chattering of teeth, which made sense considering the procedure. Moving toward a box near one of the walls, he opened it and reached inside, pulling out a thick blanket that was warm to the touch, almost like it had just come out of a dryer. He carried it over to the bed and gently draped the heated blanket over her.

"Here we go, this should help," he offered softly, giving a brief glance toward Leos after settling the blanket over the woman.

"It's nice to finally meet you, ma'am; I'm Braze. "
Braze said quietly. Then, turning to Leos, he added, "Would you like to give your friend her gifts?" referring to the sweets and the fresh sushi they had brought along. "I'm sure if you ask nicely she might share with you. "

"Here we go, this should help,"

"Aye, thanks," Sari chattered, accepting the blanket. "Call me Sari. Thanks for lookin' out for the little guy, yeah?"

Leos stepped back after he fully composed himself and cleared his throat, moving to go collect what Braze had suggested. He returned quickly with a tray of sushi and some chopsticks.

"Thought y'd be hungry," Leos muttered.

"I am, yeah," the young woman laughed. "That nasty fether was draining my energy like nobody's business."

The young woman accepted the tray, and before long enough two rolls of sushi were already gone.

"Hell... hope ya brought seconds," she muttered after a moment of clarity. "I could clear out this in a few minutes..."

"We have more," Leos insisted.

It was weird to have more. That wasn't something he had grown accustomed to. Even when he lived with his father, Leos only ate what was given to him. You could have called it a military style diet. He never ate for pleasure, only sustenance. When he ran away to live with the street urchins his diet changed very little. It just included more cheap junk food. The sudden luxury was certainly odd. Even so, if Sari could have more of what she liked maybe that wasn't a bad thing. After all, he owed her that at the very least, right?

"Is Master Tirin going to figure out what that thing is?" Leos finally asked to Braze.

"Think nothing of it," Braze said cheerfully, flashing a smile. "If he passes his tests, he'll become my Padawan soon enough. Then he'll be my responsibility."

He glanced toward Sari, the smile softening. "If you would like to see the sights, we could always get dinner in town at a proper restaurant instead of eating field rations."

Turning to Leos, Braze gave a small nod. "Yes, I imagine he will try to learn all he can about it to better understand what it is," he said thoughtfully. "Or maybe to find a more effective way to deal with them if you ever encounter one in the field."

His gaze returned to Sari. "If you want to rest here, you can. Or you can pick one of the empty rooms, whichever suits you. This whole place is meant for recovery and teaching after all."
