The Last Song: Chapter One - Child In The Dark

The Last Song
Chapter One: Child In The Dark
[Prologue]

Auron stood silent within a grove of autumn trees, wisps of auburn light trickling through trees that swayed to a soft mid-afternoon breeze. Beyond him stood a magnificent beast, a loyal friend, Yuyo. She stared at him, eyes penetrating into his soul, and his into hers. Between the two, there was a deep and powerful connection, and they thrived from one another. With her, he was safe, strong and stable. There was family. There was strength. There was home.

But something threatened this precious, silent place. An approaching darkness; a thick smog that would suffocate him. The image of Yuyo became nothing more than a mirage, and the trees around him set ablaze into blinding fire. As his vision dwindled, choked by smoke, nightmarish scenes of his animal companion's horrible demise filled his remaining sight, until there was naught but black, and a persistent wheezing and gasping for life that seemed to so quickly slip away...

He awoke screaming, his hands reaching for his broken eyes, hoping in some way it would help, but they replied only with that unfamiliar black that forever seemed to taunt him now.
"JYOTI!!!" he screamed like a frightened child crying for his mother, as he pulled himself out of bed, clumsy arms knocking off a nearby jug of flowers. Now crumpled on the ground, lost in his own blindness, he screamed once more. "Jyoti!! Where are you?" Enraged by his own lack of strength and courage, he slammed his fist hard into the floor until it became bloody, cursing all the while.

With great reluctance, the Silver Jedi had withdrawn from their space on Voss and the Tingel Arm, the people there now finding them more of a detriment than anything these days. With the ever encroaching Sith Empire, The Jedi knew what lies in store if they left, but they respected their wishes.

Sure enough, their greatest fears had been realized as the Sith finally stormed their way to Voss. The Silver Jedi were in no position to stop them, but they were able to work through a few sympathetic Rebels to provide airlifts for those who remained.

Simona was one of the volunteers, quietly slipping onto the planet on a stealthed U-wing on the lookout for survivors. She started near the site of the old Silver Temple, making sweeps on the scanners, gritting her teeth all the while at the sight of such destruction. This had been her home once, and now it had been reduced to ash and rubble.

So far nothing yet, the Sith had apparently been very thorough. Still, at risk of detection, she continued to make her search.

She couldn't stop until she had at least one soul to take back with her.
