The Hydra's Edge [Proposed Tactic/Discussion]

The Admiralty of Cartao is a state without the massive resources of the major factions, but it still has them. It still has connections. It can rent or purchase shipyards outside of the Admiralty’s territory, purchase land on foreign worlds where we can train people in skills that go beyond simple combat so that we may excel in science, splicing, and silent assassinations. In the circumstance that we enter a war with foes, then we must embrace the Hydra’s Edge.

The Admiralty requires an unique and rarely seen tactic that will provide an advantage - an edge - over our enemies, so that no matter how numerous and no matter how high quality their fleet is, we become their doom.

The purpose of the Hydra’s Edge is simple. For every starship we lose, we construct or purchase two more of the same type or of a superior type, equipping our fleets with twice the turbolasers, twice the starfighters, twice the complement of dropships and gunships, and twice the men. By doing this, we insure that we are not caught off guard by superior forces for, slowly, we will acquire superior forces. It is a method of continuous adaptability, that insures consistent but not overly costly growth even in time periods where our resources and wealth are spread thin.

We become the fearsome and dreaded hydra. An unyielding, unstoppable force of nature which our enemies will be forced to face with the knowledge that for every vessel they destroy, two more will be produced to fight them in that vessel’s place. It provides a method of psychological warfare. How can you stop something that never stops coming?

There are variants of the Hydra’s Edge, which apply the same concepts to squadrons of men, clones, or droids for training, and these can be discussed as needed.
As a stipulation, droid-centered warships that replace vessels that were not originally droid warships will replace them in fours rather than twos to insure the overall quality of the fleet.

Aye or nay, and what do you have to say?

From Discussions

"The Hydra's Edge, complications will arise when Swarm Tactics won't work, matching toe to toe isn't viable and simply fighting fire with more fire isn't condusive, but instead it could also mean employing tactics that normalaly would not have been used together. As you know the Battle field in space is 4D..." - Cyn

"Swarm tactics aren't the goal, Cyn. You cannot perform swarm tactics with cruiser-sized vessels; not if you want a high-quality navy. It is to insure consistent growth. And provide an edge over an opponent that would overwhelm us otherwise." - Cole

"So, picture the Spanish Armada but with capable leadership?" - Cyn

"Yes, I suppose, and with less storms and disease that wreak havoc on the fleet, but the goal is not to be the Spanish. We want to avoid hyperinflation, and decimating our own naval power." - Cole

"And being destroyed by pirates" - Darth Aussie

From Discussions, pt. 2

"Cole it's a beautiful theory, but how would we acquire the resources to supply it." - Hadir

"We can buy or rent shipyards, factory ships, purchase land, do dev threads for seeking out resources to mine, hammer out trade partners that can provide materials and technologies, create income through technologies, products, and services, and similar things." - Cole
