The Fallen Leaf

Training.
It was one of the most important tasks Heol had to accomplish in life. Skill was not offered for free. Training was mandatory.

It had been nearly an year since his master gave him his last lesson. Heol had been training for months, weeks. He had learned the basics of Ataru and Niman, both forms that his master had suggested for a weak force user such as Heol. Although it was true that Niman often employed force moves into it'a style, Heol's, now dead, master had trained him in the sword portion.

It was time to warm up. Wearing a usual tank top and sweatpants over wrapped legs, Heol began wondering what would be the best option. On the planet of Kashyyk, a lot of obstacles came in Heol's path, good for workouts. Quickly climbing up on a tree, Heol began jumping towards the lower branches, holding on, swinging, then jumping towards the next one. As soon as he felt it was much easier, he climbed a step. It was a difficult workout, but Heol and his teacher had been climbing trees for many years. He was used to it.

An hour had passed, and Heol was tired. Luckily, he had filled his canteen with a freshwater river he found by the end of his obstacle course. Filling it with water, Heol could feel the sweat dripping down from his face to his chin.

Grabbing his canteen of fresh Kashyyk water, he drained some down his throat, and splashed the rest on his face.

It was time for him to get back. Another half an hour of walking.

He was back. With rocks.

Rocks of multiple weights. It always came in multitudes on Kashyyk. Glad he thought of the idea on the way back, Heol began lifting the stones in many different ways: Squats, lifts, swings, military press, and shoulder press. He often used a small rock and did reps of twenty, with as much sets as he could do. It trained the endurance of the muscle, and strength.

After another half an hour, Heol approached a tree once again. Grabbing ahold of the lowest branch, Heol began pulling himself up, and controlling his weight down. Repetitions of this would help train his strength, and carrying his own weight wouldn't be a situation anymore.

It was already the afternoon.

Heol ate a good hearty lunch. Plants. He didn't want to aggravate any of the natives.

Lifting two wooden training swords he polished, he immediately began striking, slicing, and polishing up his movements. It was time for him to practice both of the only forms he learned.

Niman was all about the basics. To Heol, this strategy was often key to improvise. However, when it came to primary skill, Ataru always came first. He could recall the days when his master would watch him fail horrendously as he attempted flips, rolls, cartwheels and twirls in midair. He was no youth anymore, Heol had trained himself in the previous days to accomplish these acrobatic feats.

His continuous strikes and desperate attempts to improve would bring him, one day, to mastery. But it was not soon, certainly not soon.

Heol had thought of a new style. It was not genius, but it was a style he could utilize extremely well, and to it'a max potential. Heol would wield both a curved hilt saber on his secondary hand, and a guard shoto on his primary. It was based on the idea of a sword and a shield, the curved hilt being his sword, and the shield being his guard shoto. He would maximize his defence by using the guard shoto on his primary hand, and increase the control of his offence by using a curved hilt light saber for better grip.

To Heol, it was pure genius. If he could master the use of both weapons, he could create an amazing style that could easily be labeled the 'ultimate defence and offence balance', using high amounts of skill in both styles of swordsmanship.

Of course, the only issue was, Heol still needed to develop a guard shoto, and a curved hilt lightsaber. He planned on converting his master's old Jedi lightsaber into the guard shoto, and upgrade his given Sith lightsaber into a curved hilt with stronger properties.

He had to develop the techniques first, with the wooden guard shoto and curved hilt sword he cut out a while ago.

The guard shoto.

An abnormal weapon for many. It went extremely well on his right arm, as his left arm employed a curved hilt lightsaber. A strange style of combat. He would call it 'Royal Shield', after the imagination of a prince or highness using this strategy.

Swinging the guard shoto on his right arm, Heol began turning it to attack, or twist it to create an imaginary shield. The twisting left him in agonizing pain, however he could grow from that.

With the other arm, Heol began waving out his sword in the usual Niman or Ataru form. Holding both guard shoto and a curved hilt wasn't difficult to Heol, he got used to it pretty quick.

Finding a large tree, he began practicing on the elderly. Hitting the tree several times with the curved hilt and te guard shoto, offended was a minor, yet necessary requirement to learn and train. Next, watching as little rodents inhabiting trees began to pelt him with tiny nuts, Heol used his guard shoto to deflect the shots as if they were blaster bolts. He both parried or created the spinning shield he hoped to accomplish.

They were both so far, decent. Some successes and some failures.

Heol could always try the next day.
