GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Echani-Vexx
  • Designation: Sentient
  • Origins: Eshan
  • Average Lifespan: 95-150 Years
  • Estimated Population: Semi-Unique
  • Description: Echani-Vexx, or simply the Vexx, are similar in appearance to their Echani cousins in most aspects. Their skin parlor ranges through far more variations than their Eshan kindred due to their generations of mingling with various species. In general, they have tanned skin, dark hair and either green or blue eyes. Most stand above six feet in height, both male and female, and have angular facial features. Their arms tend to be slightly longer than a humans proportionate to the rest of their body, and their bodies have a leaner build, due to nearly a thousand years of evolution spent on a starship.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type I
  • Average Height of Adults: 2.02 Meters
  • Average Length of Adults: N/A
  • Skin color: Albino, Tanned, Dark
  • Hair color: Dark Brown and Black
  • Distinctions: The Echani-Vexx are on average taller than most humans and near humans, with the males standing on average above six feet in height, while the females are only slightly shorter. Despite their generally lanky appearance, Echani-Vexx are incredibly strong, and their longer than standard arm lengths set them apart in crowds if someone was to look long enough. They have very sharp facial features, with cheek bones set high in their facial structures, and noses that are generally on the small side. Pure Blood Echani-Vexx still have the near pure white skin of their Eshan cousins, though their hair has become pitch black.
  • Races:
    • Pure Bloods: The Pure Blood Echani-Vexx are a small group within their population who can trace their entire lineage back to the Exodus to only Echani. Their bloodline did not mingle with other species as many Echani-Vexx families did over the centuries they roamed the galaxy, and they tend to have the most striking Echani features still present in their families, other than the change in hair color present among all Echani-Vexx. They are the shortest race among the Echani-Vexx.
    • Half Born: The Half Born Echani-Vexx are those within the population that have only recently intermingled with other species. Their physical features tend to resemble that of Pure Bloods in most regards, but have a greater variation in terms of skin color and physical features. Half Born Echani-Vexx tend to be among the tallest of the species.
    • Novus Vexx: The Novus Vexx are those among the Echani-Vexx who are so intermingled with other species that their physical features border being recognizable as Echani. They tend to have darker skin and broader frames, and stand at roughly average height. They resemble in appearance their Thyrisan cousins more than the Echani of Eshan, though they are almost too widely diverse to properly categorize them.
  • Force Sensitivity: High
Strengths:
  • Physically Gifted: Echani-Vexx are physically stronger and faster than most humans and near humans. Generations of constant fighting and cultivating only the best genetic specimens among their population ensured that their physical combat prowess would always be on the rise.
  • Versatile: Due to the large cross-genetic breeding undertaken over the centuries by the Echani-Vexx, individuals among the population, excluding the Pure Bloods, have developed a tolerance to a wide range of climates and atmospheres. They are able to survive in conditions most other human or near human species would require life supporting equipment to manage in.
Weaknesses:
  • Light: Centuries spent in the confines of the Vexx Populi lead to the Echani-Vexx developing poor eyesight in brightly lit environments. Even on their new homeworld, Echani-Vexx had to wear specialized eye protection to prevent loss of sight. Echani-Vexx are also poorly adapted to sudden changes in lighting, and the sudden shift from dark to light, or vice versa, can cause the Echani-Vexx in question to temporarily go blind as their body readjusts.
  • Glass Cannon: While a physically powerful species, Echani-Vexx have a relatively fragile skeletal structure. They are able to deal out high amounts of raw strength and are strong beyond what their size might suggest, but if they receive even a standard amount of damage, they face the risk of broken bones. Such injuries also take longer to heal than most human or near humans, and often requires medical assistance, though this was only rarely given among the Echani-Vexx.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Omnivore
  • Communication: The spoken language of the Echani-Vexx is Galactic Basic, a necessity from generations spent interacting with the wider galaxy.
  • Technology level: Just below Galactic Standard, using technology roughly half a century behind modern times.
  • Religion/Beliefs: The Echani-Vexx do not have a set religion, with various cultures having been brought together with varying deities and pantheons. Religious acceptance was the general policy of the species, and no one religion was put before any other as long as they did not harm the people around them. The primary driving belief of the Echani-Vexx for much of their existence was the need to be the strongest, fastest, and best species in the galaxy. Weakness was shunned, the sick were discarded, and only the most promising were allowed to continue the species.
  • General behavior:
    • The life of an Echani-Vexx begins in conflict. The moment a child is born, they are thoroughly checked for any abnormalities or sickness that might hinder their potential in the future. Should they have either, they are isolated on their own with only the barest life support systems, and will be required to survive on their own for a set period of time before they have proven that they can be strong despite their weakness. Few survive this process, as could be expected. Those that show no outward signs of weakness are taken home with their families.
    • Echani-Vexx live in large family groups, sometimes as large as twenty members. They are structured around a singular paired patriarch and matriarch, who dictate to the rest of the family. The two leading members of the family are in charge of educating their children, with the aid of other older members of the family, while also overseeing their eventual marriage. In Echani-Vexx society, the marriage tie is the most powerful and important moment in their life to that point, as it is carefully planned out. Potential matches are discussed between the two leading family pairs, and biological information is exchanged on their respective families. Should not outstanding genetic risks present themselves during the exchange and testing, then the marriage will be approved. Once married, the new pair will depart to start their own family group severing almost every tie with their former ones.
    • By and large, Echani-Vexx are warriors first and inventors last. They focus their lives around bettering themselves personally, be it through education, training, or committing themselves fully to their jobs. The thought of bettering the rest of their species almost never crosses their mind, as the Echani-Vexx mindset leans towards self reliance. If others are not capable of creating something for themselves, or bettering their lives, then they are weak and should be ignored.
    • At all times an Echani-Vexx is armed while in public. No matter the occasion or event, they are always seen with at least one weapon on their person at all times. Those who do not are highly shunned in society, and could even face attack from other Echani-Vexx for their supposed weakness. The most common weapon worn by the Echani-Vexx are curved swords passed down through their family groups, each blade tested and drenched in the blood of Echani-Vexx of the past.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Echani-Vexx began their lives as outcasts among their people. They feared the fall of the Echani as a warrior race, declaring that their people had grown too weak to defend themselves against a galaxy constantly growing more powerful all around them. They called for a culling of the weak, so that only the strongest of their kind would remain to continue the species, and ensure only the best in every way continued on. They were ostracized for their beliefs, decried as fanatics and zealots, especially after an ever increasing number of violent crimes were committed near Echani-Vexx compounds. Eventually, the radicals decided that they could not save their species on the homeworld, and decided their best chance at salvation was to flee from Eshan.

The Echani-Vexx gathered together and constructed a vast stellar starship, called the Vexx Populi, and fled Eshan. They cut all ties and communication to their homeworld and people, and set their course for the Unknown Regions of the galaxy. Three years after their journey, known as the Exodus among them, the first culling began. They had waited for three years to ensure that the Vexx Populi was running smoothly, and to ensure that their people had grown situated and could survive the ordeals that were to come before they began. When the culling finally began, it was far more destructive than they had anticipated. From an initial population of nearly twenty thousand, the Echani-Vexx had been reduced to less than five thousand. Those that remained had proven to be the strongest, most cunning and most capable among the refugees, but it had come at great cost.

A strict population control program was put in place by the Echani-Vexx leadership, with individuals paired and tracked to ensure, to the best of their abilities, a stable gene-pool. In less than two generations however, the threat of interbreeding loomed over the Echani-Vexx. A solution was needed, and after two years of debate, one was found. A minor farming world at the borders of the Unknown Regions was selected, and the Echani-Vexx descended on the world on the wings of war. The weak among the farming population were killed, with only the strongest and most resilient among them spared the wrath of the Echani-Vexx. These survivors were taken back aboard the Vexx Populi, where they were entered into the population control program. This influx of new genes allowed for the Echani-Vexx population to continue to grow without fears of deteriorating stock for several more generations.

So the cycle began, once a century the Vexx Populi would descend into charnel pit of self destruction and slaughter, where the Echani-Vexx would fight for their lives against their peers with only the best of their bloodlines surviving. After each culling, the population would be drastically reduced, and another world would be raided to increase the breeding stock. Through this process, the weakest bloodlines among the Echani-Vexx were eliminated, while the most favorable genes were allowed to go on, whether they were originally from Eshan or elsewhere in the galaxy.

The cycle came to an end shortly after tenth culling. By then, the Echani-Vexx had been travelling the galaxy for nearly a thousand years, surviving the various galactic cataclysms and wars by staying to the peripheries of it all. However, after nearly one thousand years of travel, the Vexx Populi was finally beginning to die. The vast ship had been deteriorating for centuries by that point, but the constant repairs and work carried out by the Echani-Vexx had seen it limp on. This would no longer be enough, and the most recent culling had damaged vital segments of the ship that could no longer be repaired. It was decided that the Vexx Populi would be crash landed onto a habitable planet, and a new society would be forged on the soil of the new Echani-Vexx homeworld.

The Vexx Populi landed on the farming world the Echani-Vexx had first raided centuries before, and a city was slowly built with the massive ship at its center. A century after the landing, as all were preparing for the next culling, the ruling council of the Echani-Vexx declared an end to the tradition. The Echani-Vexx were no longer capable of travelling to other worlds to replace those killed during the culling's, and a growing discontent over the culling, started by those aliens brought into the fold, had finally taken root. For the first time in centuries, the Echani-Vexx did not kill one another, and instead worked harder than ever to build for themselves a prosperous, peaceful home. The pacifism of the Echani-Vexx would be their final downfall however.

An Echani-Vexx Half Born from the Organiel family rose to prominence as the "Prophet of the Exodus". He preached of the coming doom of the Echani-Vexx, brought upon by visions he received each night. He slowly gained a following among at first the Half Born population, before rapidly gaining momentum when the Pure Bloods began to listen to his maddened rants. The Prophet of the Exodus called for one final culling, a final act to stave off the doom of the Echani-Vexx and prepare them to take their rightful place at the forefront of the galaxy. When he called, his followers answered. The final culling erupted across the homeworld of the Echani-Vexx, with entire settlements put to the torch in the ever worsening conflict. From a population that had grown into the low millions, only a few tens of thousands remained after a single month of fighting.

Among those leading the battle was the nephew of the Prophet of the Exodus, a youth named Aura Organiel. Originally a simple supporter of his uncle, Aura came to become influenced by visions he himself began to see, and slowly became corrupted. By the time the fighting had come to an end, Aura Organiel had become a full devotee of the Dark Side of the Force, and turned his sights on the last of his people. Aura hunted down the survivors, killing each Echani-Vexx he found no matter which side of the conflict they had been on, determined to erase the weakness he had seen among his own people in its entirety. His maddened slaughter only came to an end when he killed his uncle, and the few remaining survivors fled the planet.

Now, the Echani-Vexx as a near extinct species. After the final culling and the ravages of the newly renamed Aura Vexx, less than one hundred Echani-Vexx still live in the galaxy, scattered to all the corners of the galaxy, hunted forever by the man who claimed the name of their people as his own...
