Intent: A personal Artifact for Ostanes to represent his steps on the road to mastering Alchemy
Development Thread: Where Gods Fear to Tread (10 posts done, still ongoing for story)
Manufacturer: Ostanes
Model: N/A
Affiliation: Personal
Modularity: Not Advisable to Attempt(No).
Production: Unique
Material: Alchemised Hjarna Stone, Blackened Alchemised Electrum, Alchemised Sand Demon Egg
Classification: Staff
Size: Two-Handed
Length: 186 cm
Weight: 4kg
Special Features:
  • Enduring – Being of Hjarna stone capped in electrum, and then alchemised by a talented Alchemist with a fair knowledge of crystallurgy, the physical body of this staff is impervious to lightsabers, and would take Force Light or some other catastrophe to undo it's physical form.
  • Dark Knowledge – By binding the Force entity known as Obeah to the staff through a constructed ritual bearing semblance to the scant bits of Sith Magic he has learned and summoning rites from the Taurannik Codex , Ostanes was able to create a conduit in the staff, linking the being to his mind in permanence so long as the staff exists. This serves to grant him a substantial tome of esoteric knowledge concerning Alchemy (at or beyond a Master level into Apex/Specialist, though lesser FU Ranks will experience lesser knowledge boosts) and in particular transmutation and the imbuement of crystals. Though in truth, as such beings go, Obeah is not nearly as powerful as say the dread Lotek'k, the creatures knowledge is vast in the subjects that Ostanes has interest in.
  • Dark Side Force Nexus: Thought not absurdly powerful, the ritual used to first ward and create the staff, and then bind Obeah to it did leave a mark behind on it. With said ritual leaving scars, the staff functions as a sort of limited Dark-Sided Force Nexus. It provides the typical aura of unease, the presence in the Force which inteferes heavily with Stealth (to making it nigh impossible to conceal onself while carrying it) but, when activated, provides a substantial boost to strength and ease of use in Sith Magic and Alchemy. However, unlike most Nexus, this must be consciously triggered, and does require some focus to maintain, making it harder to use in combat situations.
  • Lightning Shield: Though not a 'sith sword' in terms of alchemical make up, it is altered by Alchemy to a great extent, and so in this regard, the staff can block Force Lightning, similar to a lightsaber, provided the defender and attacker are of similar strengths. The greater that gap, the stronger or weaker the defense. When being used in this manner, the connection between Ostanes and Obeah is muted, and thus no enhancement of spells or rituals, knowledge, or communication can occur.
  • Gateway To Netherworld: As most bargains with such beings go, a cost was extracted on Ostanes in exchange for Obeahs' compliance. Whilst alive, Ostanes would allow Obeah full access to his bodys' senses and thoughts, thus experiencing the physical realm through his host. In return, Obeah would cooperate willingly with the Alchemist to teach him the craft, and upon Ostanes death, Obeah would trade places with Ostanes, binding his spirit to the staff instead and assuming control and animating the newly made corpse to use as a gateway for his being to the physical realm, much like some rifts were found in the Netherworld Crisis (All this means is, should Ostanes die, it will be a neat bit of story for a new character to be born from, nothing more or less)
Description:
Loosely translated from High Sith, The Dtaisia Shumdijara means 'Creation Rod' in Galactic Basic. Perhaps not the most inspired of names, but when creating such talismans, often the more direct the name is to function, the easier the spell is to weave to create it. And considering the ambition of the ritual, the most direct name he could think of was chosen. Perhaps better would have been to name it after the entity it housed, but as with all such beasts the knowledge of its name offers power of command to a strong enough mind, and so Ostanes chose to keep the name secret and known only to himself.

Made of perfectly smooth hjarna stone, the staff has blackened electrum bandings that are almost indistinguishable from the stone itself, being soaked in blood of Ostanes and etched with runes designed to enable mental communication between two parties. The enscorcelling of the bands was completed by heating them in a fire of corpses from his various experiments in the Tatooine deserts, and using the slight expansion of the metal to slide them onto the staff at predetermined locations, the cooling of the bands bringing them tight enough to be held in place.

The end of the staff was chosen as a sand demon egg, close to hatching and so on the cusp of life and death, the perfect representation of what Ostanes needed. There did the spirit of the demon flee, inhabiting the unborn fetus of the deadly creature, and thus maintaining some presence in the physical realm so it could aid Ostanes as per their bargain, though per Ostanes' insistence, it's direct power and effect on the physical realm would thus be limited severely. Other than aiding Ostanes in endeavors of Sith Magic & Alchemy, the spirit would be able to pass on knowledge and advice, and nothing more than that until the death of the Alchemist who bound it.

Overall, it is a rather impressive looking staff, though directly looking at it will (as with most Dark Sided artifacts) fill lesser minds with unease and anxiety, making those not bonded to it experience difficulty with concentration and sensations of nausea, malaise, and even physical weakness depending on their mental fortitude or strength in the Force (this can be nullified by things like Ysalamari, and affected by things that grant resistance or immunity to Force Fear, Mentalism/Illusions, and Mind Trick powers). It's purpose, which it executes with astounding success, is to provide a door into the darker secrets of the transmutative arts, and allow Ostanes to truly begin to advance to Mastery in his chosen craft.

I've rarely seen someone make a primary trademark implement that was 100% story element and 0% explicit tactical utility. Good solid thread, too, equivalent to maybe 20-30 shorter-but-acceptable posts. I took a while to think this one over, and I don't see a problem here.
