The Demon of Anobis

Anobis
Near-Midnight

Fear was like a sickness, it spread quickly and if it wasn’t nipped in the bud immediately it could destroy everything it touched. Fear was also a weapon for those who knew how to wield it. Anyone could look scary, but to actually spread fear you have to do scary things. Onasius excelled in that. For the last month, Onasius had spread much fear across the farming and mining centered planet. He lived off of the local fauna, killing the animals and eating them to the bone leaving nothing but a bloody stain in the vegetation. He stayed in caves and away from the people. He had been sent by the One Sith while his instructors had been sent away on a mission. The Sith Lords ordered the apprentice to do recon on the area and report back any findings. There had been nothing of note he’d discovered yet, however the locals were under the impression they had discovered something entirely sinister.

It would usually be the hour the night sky was painted indigo with starts and clouds framing the horizon. That he would strike. Onasius found it easy enough to break into someone’s house, adding the Sith magics to the equation made it and him nearly undetectable to the sleeping victims. This allowed him to float from house to house given enough patience. Even though patients were hard for Onasius to come by, he knew he would serve a greater purpose to his deities if he worked quietly. He slinked down the hallways, checking for children first knowing they were the most likely to wake up and alert the others. After that he would systematically take out the entire household. It’d happened five times in a sixty mile radius, the frequency was increasing too.

It was a deep seeded need that Onasius spill the blood of a living breathing creature. He hailed from a violent culture with major sadistic religious practices. The preferred sacrifice was always taken from a fellow Yevetha but with the acolyte’s understanding of the Yevetha species (Which he would later come to find was false) there were not many left so he would have to spill the blood of a lesser species. This is what led him to need to ‘feed’ during his tenure on the agricultural planet. There were not many civilizations scattered across the plains, though there were small communities of five or six houses in a group, surrounded for miles by farm land. These were the perfect targets. They would never expect something so fearsome to taint their small burrows, but then again no one expects to get sick either.

During the brutal attacks, the Yevetha had let a handful survive. Those who did fled and told the horror story of the demon who would creep into your window at night and gut you with blades that would shoot from his wrists. He had razor sharp fangs, and moved like a mist in the night. Just like all urban legends, “The Demon Of Anobis” had a catchy headline, and just like always, soon the fear started to seep out. Word got out of Gruwel’s slaughter and right away people started taking precautions in their small houses and locking up their barns. There had even been a group of Iridonian males who got some creatures to try to track his scent down. It turned out to be a narrow miss for Onasius, who had to shed his outer robe in a creek to try to get them off of his scent. It was apparent he had done what he had set out to do and fear had set in, it was most amusing to watch.

Now it had been a week since he had last fed however. This was the longest he had gone his entire stay and it was starting to set in. It was very addicting, causing such panic and enraging so many people all at once. He pictured himself as a shining beacon of the malefic righteousness his religion sought to bring to the galaxy as a whole. Now equipped with black leather garments and a lightsaber hidden beneath them, he set off from his most recent cave-dwelling. It was time to reaffirm the horror tales they were telling about the Demon, it was time to spread a little more fear among the masses. Maybe this time they would be expecting him, perhaps this time he would meet a group who would truly fight for their lives. It would be a much more interesting battle for Onasius that way. He loved manipulating these people’s fears to further his own ego. He truly believed these non-Yevetha were not worthy of living.

____

Something in the Force was guiding him through the fauna. It wouldn’t be long until Onasius’s onyx gaze fell upon a house with a brick chimney pumping out warm smoke into the chilly night air and a bay window filled with happy people enjoying a fine night with their friends. The perfect fuel to any horror story, people would know that not even awake would you be safe from the Demon of Anobis. A quick sliding noise when he extended his dew claws would be the only noise that the acolyte created. The soft grasses and grains of the farmland provided nice padding for his footfalls. Unless you were expecting him, Onasius Gruwel was one with the shadows. The silent specter got closer to the house before stopping near the tree line of the property. He would wait till the right time to strike. He wanted to make a scene with these non-fearers. Maybe this could give them the honor they could never earn as non-Yevetha.

Onna studied the bounty posting that was making waves on the Net. Something out of a horror vid, going by the name, but it certainly caught people's attention and many were willing to go after this hunt. No one else in the Guild, however, so she was free to give it a shot on her own, especially now that she was on Anobis, ship hovering above the grassland. But where to start? She had plotted the killings and marked them out on a map.

All were in a sixty mile radius, which meant something. Whoever, or whatever, was doing this, didn't have a speeder. So the target was on foot. She looked over the files again. The target seemed to infiltrate family homes and murder them, with according to the accounts, blades from its hand. She'd make a note of that and be prepared with her own blade. Hopefully it would stand up to whatever those blades were. She didn't see a reason it wouldn't, anyways.

She felt something, rotted and vile, and she gagged for a moment as the feel touched her mind. Something Dark, so very dark. She curled up in a ball as the nausea racked through her before receding. Was that the Demon? As far as she could tell, nothing else on the planet would cause such a disturbance. Pale now, she adjusted the course of the ship to circle through the area of the killings, not too low, but still visible as a distant dot traveling through the sky. As night fell, the thrusters from the engine would light up.

Onna pushed herself back away from the console and made her way to the back of the cockpit and sank to her knees, trying to breathe normally again, concentrating on individual breaths and forcing them to come in a rhythm, slowly pushing back the cloying feel centimeter by centimeter.

It took some time for this to work, but slowly, she went back to normal and slumped against the deck. Now what would the next step be?

Starlight spilled on the grains of wheat and other life bringing crops like the oceans of Manaan. Milky yellows reflected back toward the open sky above. This meant it was quite bright, and yet still six people didn’t see the devil himself headed straight for them. Perhaps it was the liquor they were likely drinking, or maybe it was the music they were listening to was too loud, or perhaps it came down to simple arrogance. Maybe they believed they weren’t going to ever be targets, what was the chance it could happen to them? No matter the cause, their blindness to the world around them would likely cost them their lives.

Like the proverbial bat out of hell, the Sith assassin was quickly gaining ground on the small farmhouse. He could practically taste their blood, how the fear would set into the meat and give them a satisfying bitter taste. The spilling of this blood would also only further his standing with his deities. Onasius was to be a blackguard among his people. Forming the Gods’ will into the spearhead he would thrust unto the galaxy’s very heart. Soon the stars would weep with the blood of all of its citizens. Soon the Demon of Anobis would spread his reign of terror. He would use the teachings of the Sith to bring an end to everything.

A loud thud would herald the devil’s arrival. It would just be a single noise, enough to alert them, but not enough to alarm them. That would come. It was like a child playing with its toys.

“Did anyone hear that?” The music stopped for a moment. Onasius made sure to be quiet as he scaled the roof, making his way toward what appeared to be an attic/upper floor.

“You’re reading too many click bait holo-slides, Carmen. He's not real.” The music came back on and Onasius slipped into the house undetected. He sheathed his dew claws again. He would wait till the perfect moment to strike.
