Intent: To continue the history of a destroyed canon artifact in a way that is both canon-sensitive and counter to overpowered interpretations and uses. The limitations described in the submission are enumerated in the third development thread.

Development Thread:
Manufacturer: Lords of Shadows

Model: The Darkstaff

Affiliation: Individual

Modularity: Not in the least

Production: Unique

Material: Alchemical metal and alchemized wood; fully lightsabre-resistant

Description: The ancient Darkstaff was capable of an insane amount of abilities, from Force Storms to time travel to creating armies of zombies. As the current staff is forged from recollected fragments, it is not the full staff, and its re-creators chose to avoid restoring the all-too-numerous spells and powers. The current Darkstaff retains the potential of the original in exactly one sense. Its one and only ability is the core ability of the original Darkstaff: It bolsters Force Drain and stores the energies stolen through that power, up to a theoretical maximum that is difficult to calculate but surely less than the limits of the original artifact. While the Darkstaff remains one of the most powerful artifacts in existence, it will never again be capable of moving entire solar systems through time. More broadly, it will never become capable of becoming the old version of itself by advancing beyond its current state. Its theoretical maximum strength, if fully charged by many examples of Force Drain, would be enough to give a Padawan or Knight a relatively short period of Master-level powers. A Master would have enough power to spare to accomplish one of the standard apex manifestations of the Force (such as pulling down a capital ship, or creating a Force Storm) without becoming personally drained, assuming they already knew how to produce such a manifestation.

To charge the Darkstaff, one uses Force Drain; one must be skilled in that particular aspect of the Force. All the energies attained in this manner are stored within the Darkstaff and can be released later, either in a sustained fashion or in a single burst. However, energy can only be released in a way consistent with the knowledge and skillset of the user. The Darkstaff will grant no new powers. When it has not been charged by specific, RP'ed examples of Force Drain applications, it is nothing more than an extremely durable, lightsabre-immune staff, length 2.1m, with an unusual glow inside the crook. It is not sentient, or capable of becoming so.

The unique mix of Sith sorcery and materials alchemy require to reforge the Darkstaff was provided by Val'Ryss Zankarr, one of the galaxy's greatest Sith sorcerers; Valik, the galaxy's greatest materials alchemist; and Velok, quite competent in both areas though far from a specialist.

Ok, I've read this over. I see one thing that needs some capping for me @[member="Velok"]

  • I"m requesting a ceiling on the drain as well as how much energy it can unleash.
  • Also, please state this thing isn't sentient at all and never will be.
  • Also, that it can not be upgraded to the old darkstaff at all.
