Intent: A flagship product for iBorg, a neural implant compatible with various current and future module submissions.
Development Thread: None
Manufacturer: iBorg Prosthetic Augments
Model: iBorg Clarity Neural Implant
Affiliation: Open market
Modularity: The Clarity is fundamentally a set of sockets for modules, all of which will be submitted separately in the future.
Production: Minor
Material:

  • Desh-terenthium, noted for its very high tensile-strength-to-weight ratio. Will not cause neck problems.
  • High-grade nullification resin, preventing mild to moderate levels of Force interference (such as is experienced on the planet Dromund Kaas, or caused by Knight-level technometry/mechu-deru).
Description: The Clarity Neural Implant is a high-end neural implant, the product of an ambitious startup and a major investment. Apart from its standard functions, which are considerable, the Clarity contains two kinds of plug-and-play sockets, suitable for more ambitious modules.

Standard features:
  • Knowledge cartridge compatibility. Note that knowledge cartridges contain information, not, say, muscle memory. This function will not give you 'I know Kung Fu' moments. Automatic virus-scan on knowledge cartridges.
  • Various recording/review modes for images seen and sounds heard.
  • Average of 20% improved long-term memory (for post-implant experiences).
  • Average of 15% improved short-term memory.
  • Short-range internal comlink/datalink (range 30km).
  • Powerful internal firewalls and slicing countermeasures. Sufficient interference will automatically trip a hard break in the datalink's circuits, preventing all possibility of communication or slicing unless the user decides to reactivate the datalink.
  • EMP/ion insulated. Sufficient impact (a strike from a capital-grade ion weapon or an EMP bomb, for example) will disable the Clarity, and may cause loss of data, but will not normally cause loss of cognitive function apart from the damage generally incurred by ion weapons.
  • Force insulated. An optional internal layer of high-grade nullification resin prevents mild to moderate levels of Force interference, such as is experienced on the planet Dromund Kaas, or caused by Knight-level technometry/mechu-deru. Caveat: Force-users have reported that this optional feature interferes with the precision of their Force senses.
  • No loss of personality. Caveat: living with a Clarity is a new kind of life, and your personality may grow in new directions.
  • Waterproof.

Modular features:
  • Aurek Socket. This socket is compatible with future Aurek Series modules. Aurek Series modules often confer a single major technical capability. For example, a Clarity outfitted with a certain kind of hypothetical Aurek Series module might function similarly to a BioTech Industries Borg Construct Aj^6.
  • Zerek Socket. This socket is compatible with future Zerek Series modules. Zerek Series modules are often focused on enhancing or filtering experience in some way. For example, a hypothetical augmented reality Zerek Series module might allow a user to stream entertainment programs or news updates directly from the HoloNet into his or her field of vision, in a non-invasive way.
It must be noted that some planets have stigma against large, obvious implants, especially neural implants. Moreover, even though hairstyles, hoods, etc. can be used to cover the implant, it will still be noticeable -- letting everyone around know that you're jacked in. The Clarity is not low-profile. Surgical removal of the Clarity can also be a source of cosmetic damage.
