The Chiss Ruling Families

The Chiss are governed by an oligarchy of extended Ruling Families, who each are responsible for a set of government affairs to manage, with representatives from each clan residing in House Palace, located in the capital city of Csaplar. These representatives are leaders composing the Council of Families (typically holding titles of Aristocra), and are responsible for making final decisions brought to them by the democratically elected parliament of the Chiss (composed of a single delegate from each colony within Chiss space).

The importance of the Council is to ensure that each Ruling House maintains a balance when required to undertake governmental decision-making. As the number of Ruling Families increases, the allocation of specific areas they are responsible for within the Ascendancy is shared. Houses that display great merit and dedication to their duties can be chosen to become Ruling Houses and join the Council of Families.

The Ruling Families, and their respective affairs to manage, are as follows:

• House Inrokini - Industry, Science, and Communications.
• House Mitth - Military Policy
• House Nuruodo - Diplomacy and Foreign Policy
• House Csapla - Resource Management and Colonial affairs
• House Sabosen - Law and Order, Health, and Education
• House Lore - Civilian and Military Arms Manufacturing and Distribution

Aristocra is a title of high rank within the Chiss Ascendancy, appointed to representative members of the Ruling Families and members of the Council of Families. On top of Government decision-making, those that hold this rank can also be responsible for serving as heads of military or diplomatic expeditions, as representatives of their Family, or even of the Ascendancy as a whole. In those times when heading military or diplomatic missions, the Aristocra enjoys wide-ranging authority in the execution of the resultant duties.

Needless to say, such a position holds a lot of power within the Ascendancy, yet even Aristocra must answer to the collective Ruling Houses regardless of personal status or individual influence.
