DESCRIPTION




The Carry-On is certainly a very unique vehicle -- while little of its history has been documented, it was presumed to have began service as a bulk freighter in service to the Galactic Empire in 6 BBY. The vessel's size limits the possible construction sites, though some investigation has led the current owner, Kelsie Sylvan, to believe that the drone freighter was constructed by Kuat Drive Yards. Many years later it fell into the hands of a ship vendor based on Eriadu.

The Toydarian merchant, Kounko, scrubbed the vessel clean; though many parts and systems had been deeply integrated into the ship. The thrust-trace dampers and signature modulators were likely used by smuggler captains to leave little trace of their passing and slip into systems under false pretenses. The fact that the ship was a drone freighter likely made this work significantly easier, so when Kounko put the vessel up for sale he marketed it more heavily on undervine and shadier sections of the HoloNet in hopes of catching a big-time smuggler to sell to.

Instead, Kelsie Sylvan arrived in his shop -- she hadn't made any offers online as far as he could tell, but she claimed she'd be willing to pay sixteen million credits for the vessel, in addition to be allowed to use Kounko's facilities to modify the vessel to better fit her needs. They haggled for a while, but Kounko began to doubt that Kelsie had the money for the vessel and instead gambled a bit in hopes to take what little wealth he expected the woman to have. When the human actually managed to win their bet, Kounko reluctantly conceded and handed over the ship.

Actually arriving on the ship was different than she'd expected -- her scans told her it was empty, but she could hear noises coming from the deep, dark halls...




The enormous drone freighter is known to few as the Carry-On, and by most as the Gideon, a bulk transport in service to an independent shipping company. True to its role the vessel is able to carry a massive amount of cargo and material -- if fully stocked the vessel could carry up to thirty million metric tons of cargo. It is currently used as a sort of storage unit for a variety of objects collected by Kelsie Sylvan.

Unique to the vessel are the ventral bay doors used to store large amounts of material, large objects, or even capital ships. In tandem with the ship's advanced tractor beam array, the Carry-On is able to grab and store entire asteroids. The interior has been outfitted with automated manufacturing capabilities; by using the molecular furnace found aboard the Carry-On can manufacture nearly anything, assuming that it has the material to do so.

A variety of miscellaneous systems complement the owner's needs; the signature modulators are able to mask the ship's identity as another -- namely the Gideon. By retracting its weapons and masking its signature the Carry-On is capable of passing as an entirely different and civilian ship. It can then slip into civilian spaceports, even deep in enemy territory. Minor stealth systems such as thrust-trace dampers and anti-ion emission tracers continue this more discreet approach, despite the vessel being very large.

Most important to the Carry-On is its automation. There is no crew manning any stations, systems, or weapons, and in most cases this significantly increases the effectiveness of the ship's power distribution and weapon use. With Missy hooked into the central computer core aboard the vessel, this efficiency is furthered, with effectively zero chance of system failure. While this does present a clear benefit, the vessel is vulnerable to concentrated ion or EMP attacks -- such attacks can disable sections and systems.

Missy also is able to reconfigure the interior of the vessel -- most sections of the ship have movable walls and modular rooms, and thus going through the endless maze of a ship that the Carry-On is becomes more bearable. The ship's compartmentalized systems allow each section to work independently, such that changes can be easily made to fit particular areas and needs.

Kelsie's home among the stars has everything she'll ever need -- and if it doesn't, she'll just make some changes.
