Strengths:
  • Highly Accurate - Designed primarily as a dueling pistol, The Captain's Legacy is extremely accurate and remains effective at ranges considered extreme for most other sidearms in the galaxy, provided the user has the skill to actually hit the target.
  • Hammer of the Gods - The Captain's Legacy is designed around a single concept: Hit as hard as possible and smash aside whatever stands in the way. To this end, the weapon is entirely designed to break through armor and shields alike, using a combination first seen centuries ago by the Separatist fleets where mass drivers were placed coaxial to ion weaponry. The concept is simple in that whatever the mass driver impacts has been weakened by the ion bolt milliseconds prior, allowing the mass driver to penetrate many types of personal shielding with relative ease. When swapped to Firing Mode Two the weapon becomes far more adept at cracking armor when shields are not present, though in a pinch the weapon can do heavy damage to many types of personal shielding. In either case, the weapon has a massive amount of knockdown power, often rendering prone that which it could not kill in a single shot.
  • Firing Options - The weapon can swap between firing modes with a few minutes of preparation and adjustment. In Firing Mode One the weapon is a dual ion blaster and mass driver, each barrel requiring different ammunition types and firing in tandem. In Firing Mode Two the power cell is shunted between both barrels and the power level is increased. This is to allow the ferrous slugs now loaded into both barrels to become ionized when fired, turning the pistols into a hybrid weapon.
  • Hand Crafted - Each weapon is hand crafted by a master craftsman to ensure absolute perfection in everything from aesthetics to practical function. This, coupled with the relatively simplistic modes of firing, mean that with proper care and maintenance the pistols very, very rarely jam or fail without outside interference.
Weaknesses:
  • Slow Reload - The only 'magazine' or equivalent mechanism on the weapon is the pistol's power cell. Despite this, the power cell is difficult to reload as to replace the cell requires the user to remove the protective cap from its location on the very butt-end of the pistol itself. In addition, the ferrous slugs cannot be loaded by cartridge or magazine. Instead, each slug must be loaded, by hand and individually, into the proper port along the side and rear of either barrel. This makes reloading the weapon slow and, at times, complicated, but is often seen as a fair trade off for the increased accuracy and raw power of a proper duelist's weapon. In addition, this reload period applies when switching between fire modes as the top barrel will need to be unloaded/loaded before the weapon can be properly used in its new firing selection.
  • Finicky and Complex - While their handcrafted nature makes the pistols highly prized and an excellent sidearm for a true duelist or marksman, the weapons are somewhat complex to care for and maintain. A mesh of ancient design and modern techno-wizardry, the weapons are only durable to a point. Much like Verpine weapons, dropping one of these pistols with significant force can easily occupy the next few hours attempting to repair the weapon as you realign internal parts and components.
  • Single Action Safety - Designed to operate as a duelist or marksman's pistol, these weapons are entirely not designed for rapid fire. Before each shot, both hammers on the pistol must be cocked back as part of a safety mechanism. If neither or only one hammer is cocked, the weapon will not fire. This ensures safe operation of the weapon, encourages accurate fire, and (most importantly) slows the fire rate of the weapon entirely.
  • Hand Crafted - As the weapons are hand crafted, there is one readily apparent issue with the weapon: no two weapon sets are exactly alike. Each set of pistols are made as a distinct, unique pair which means that replacement parts must be individually made for the weapons as they are needed. This makes the weapons that much more prized, but can easily prevent frequent use as, when damaged, users often are required to send the weapon off to be repaired unless they themselves are master craftsmen in their own right and familiar with the weapon's internal layout, construction, and design.
Description:

Considered a major milestone for martial prowess, naval ingenuity, and total victory for the Mandalorian people, the invasion and subsequent devastation of Dromund Kaas has been revered and reviled by the entire galaxy at various points in history. Within the Mandalorian clans, it has often been viewed as a major turning point for the warlike people as they triumphed over yet another major foe and threat to their way of life. To others throughout the galaxy, it has been seen by some as a necessary evil or even as a horrid tragedy as millions of innocents and civilians perished alongside their Sith overlords.

To the victor, however, go the spoils and, perhaps more importantly, the history books. Using the devastation of Dromund Kaas as a building block, the Mandalorian people have slowly constructed a persona around such actions that has caused many to view them from monsters and bloodthirsty warlords to a people willing to do whatever it takes to preserve their way of life. It is Mythosaur Munitions' hope to capture that whirlpool of emotions, the myriad of viewpoints, and place them into a single item that combines them with the power and legacy made that fateful day as the Sith Empire crumbled at last. The Captain's Legacy, named after the daring, or despicable, individual who commanded the Mandalorian fleet in the skies above Dromund Kaas will now allow those Mandalorian warriors who dare rise to the occasion the chance to place their own mark on history where they might gather fame... or infamy.

The Captain's Legacy is, quite simply, a pair of hand crafted, commemorative pistols designed to cater to the collector, the duelist, and the marksman all while harnessing the power and destruction shown as meteors rained from the sky and laid waste to the planet below.

These matched pair of pistols are unique in comparison to the vast majority of similar weapons on the market today. Each pistol features a pair of barrels in an over-and-under configuration which allows the pistol to function as a dual mass driver and ion blaster weapon. In its primary firing mode, when the trigger is pulled the top barrel fires a single ion blast a millisecond or two ahead of the bottom barrel, which fires a single, magnetically accelerated ferrous slug. Set to its secondary firing mode, both barrels fire a single, magnetically accelerated ferrous slug that has been ionized as it passed down the barrel. These two firing modes allow the user to tailor their preferences towards shield or armor penetration, depending on the firing mode chosen.

The firing mechanism is a perfect mesh of ancient and modern, much like the weapon itself. As the hammer falls when the trigger is pulled, it completes a specific circuit within the weapon itself, causing the pistol to fire as the hammers come into contact with the receiving plates. To rearm the weapon, simply cock both hammers back into the proper firing position and take aim once more.

The Legacy pistols are extremely accurate and sport an effective firing range of around 150 meters by a skilled marksman firing in the primary firing mode or about 75 meters when used in its secondary fire setting. Regardless of the setting, the weapons are extremely powerful and damaging, easily blasting through shields or armor with relative ease depending on the fire setting. In addition, each weapon is crafted by hand by a master gunsmith ensuring that the weapon meets company standards both in look and function. Due to this, when properly maintained and cared for, these weapons see an extremely low jam or failure rate unless introduced to outside interference (i.e. damage).

The weapon is not without its drawbacks, however. The pistols are slow and complex to reload, both in regards to the power cells and to the actual physical projectiles. To reload the power cell, the butt-cap of the pistol must be unscrewed and removed before the cell, and subsequently the butt-cap, can be replaced and secured. In addition, the ferrous slugs cannot be loaded by magazine or pre-loader and instead must be loaded individually by hand via special ports alongside the side and rear of both barrels.

The weapons are also physically complex and can often fail after being dropped or impacted with significant force. This makes the Captain's Legacy pistols a poor choice for melee combat in most cases and emphasizes their use as a duelist or marksman's weapon. When damaged in such a way, users will often need to take time to properly realign internal components before the weapon can be used again, something that can easily take hours to complete.

The weapon is also designed to encourage weapon safety and to deliberately slow the rate of fire, thereby encouraging a more precise and accurate series of shots rather than a sequence of rushed trigger pulls. To fire the weapon, both hammers must be properly cocked back into a ready position. This prepares and activates the proper electrical circuits responsible for firing the weapon itself. If neither or only one hammer is cocked, the weapon will fail to fire. This forces the user to properly prepare his or her weapon while forcing the weapon to adopt a slower, steadier rate of fire. This, by extension, encourages the firer to favor precision over rate of fire, a trait desired by the duelists and marksmen this weapon is tailored to attract.

Lastly, the weapons are hand crafted which generally means that they are of high quality. While this is true, this also means that the weapons are made in matched pairs and that any replacement parts must be made by hand as well. In such cases of significant damage, the weapons must be sent off to be fully repaired and refurnished unless the owner of the set is a qualified craftsman fully versed in the weapons' internal layout, design, and construction.

The Captain's Legacy now fully explained, it is time to found your own. Will you be known for your valor and glory on the field of battle? Or shall the universe associate your name with fear, hatred, and brutality?

Only you can decide. Take up your own Legacy today.

Well, this thing is certainly exhaustive. Every time I came up with a question, I re-read the sub and found the answer in there somewhere. One point of clarification, and it's a fairly major one:

I get the logic that firing mode one is quite good at getting through shields, a la deck cannon. What I'm less clear on is the idea that firing mode two (some kind of ion ripper variant) is going to be very good at getting through armor. I'm not sure I've ever seen a rippery thing with ion instead of blaster energy around the slug, and I'm not sure it'd be surpassingly awesome vs. armor. What's your rationale here?

I've always seen hybrid weapons to have a better time going through armor and such than the standard slugthrowers and blasters simply because it's hitting with the same strength as a slug, but almost the double whammy of the ion envelopment. It's how I designed the Ambassador Revolver back in the day and all Tenloss hybrid weapons (Like the Type 8 smg and the Model-9 pistol) to function. Essentially, it's less a "Armor Piercing" kind of thing and more a "If I hit it twice as hard, it'll have that much more chance at getting through the target" type deal. Toss in that you're firing two of the things at the same rough area and... yeah.

As for the ion thing, it says in the page for the Tusken Cycler Rifle (The weapon all of my hybrid weapons are based on with any of my companies) that the slugs are enveloped in "energy" though it admittedly doesn't state what type. I've always referred to it as ions probably because of the concept of ionization and such of the projectile.

Bit of a stretch to me, but you're right, the canon has some wiggle room, and I've seen sources with ion cannon variants that did physical damage. And in the end, the sub is very well balanced, and its strengths are impressive but not meant to be godly - you aren't subbing the Best Gun In The Galaxy here. I'm comfortable stamping this. Thanks for answering my questions clearly.
